We had booked the junior suite for an overnight stay with a visit to the associated award-winning restaurant (separate review).
The venerable building complex is located a little way away from Amorbach (accessible via a gravel road) in a wonderful, quiet area with lots of nature (forest and meadows) and a beautiful view of Amorbach.

Our room was in an annex on the upper floor (relatively steep, narrow stairs); the suite and bathroom were very large, well equipped with plenty of storage space; beds and mattresses very good; the bathroom had a shower and a bathtub, 2 sinks and also plenty of storage space. Since the suite took up the entire upper floor, we also had windows and views in all four directions. The rooms also seemed very clean, although - this is possibly due to the old walls - there were quite a lot of spiders (harveymen) in the bathroom and room; can certainly not be avoided, but the somewhat older cobwebs in some corners and niches suggest that the room cleaning was rather superficial - there is room for improvement.

Staff and service were very friendly and attentive.

We also didn't like the furniture - a historical ambience doesn't necessarily mean that you're stuck in the past 20 years...with the standards of a 4-star hotel and the not-so-low room prices, you should invest a little more there. Another drawback was the heaters being switched off; when we asked the owner about it, he explained that this depended on the outside temperature, that today (October 14th) was the first day for the heater and that it would definitely come on during the night. Unfortunately, this was not the case and with night temperatures of around 5 degrees, it was very cold, especially in the bathroom (the fireplace was lit in the restaurant - we didn't have the option of that in the room).

The fabulously described breakfast buffet was absolutely disappointing: it was set up in a very small space (if there were four people or more, you could hardly move around) with a very minimalist and simple selection (this really applied to all areas, whether bread/rolls, jam, yoghurt, juice... always two types of each....there was no margarine, no raw or cooked ham, no offer of additional egg dishes such as fried eggs etc.); for coffee there was already a small pot of filter coffee (not very tasty) and otherwise no offers; I don't even want to talk about things like possibly lactose-free products....the staff also had problems with refilling, not because they weren't motivated, but because of the lack of space they couldn't even get to the buffet and should have refilled it every minute; here the number of guests having breakfast simply doesn't match the space capacity of the buffet. So it doesn't fit the claim of the upscale hotel character.

Since for us a successful hotel stay also includes a nice breakfast, we will unfortunately probably not come back despite the many positive aspects of the hotel.

Not only is the journey there bumpy, the restaurant manager, Mr. Ãœnel, could also be more accommodating towards the guests, for example when a rump steak is on the plate instead of the fillet shown on the menu, when he tastes the wine instead of the guest and when he brusquely tells the guests that the bar will not open until the last dessert in the restaurant has been eaten. However, this should not disguise the fact that the panoramic location of the hotel, the rest of the service and the rooms are very pleasant. The 4-course menu and a lavish, well-stocked wine list quickly make you forget the last-minute bumps.

This is the most delightful hotel tucked away in a valley beside Amorbach. The rooms are very comfortable with superb bathrooms. Our room had a great views. There are plenty of walks in the wooded hills around the hotel and major attractions not too far away (Miltenberg, etc).
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful making us feel very much at home. The restaurant is simply superb with some of the best food we have eaten in Germany. Most of the produce is local.
All in all one of the best hotels we have stayed in while in Germany

The hotel is situated in a lovely setting and has a romantic atmosphere. The hills and building make a lovely ensemble. The rooms have a country look and charm but are dated and not really especially comfortable. The place is well kept and spotlessly clean. Minibar in the room well stocked. There is a sauna which can be used during the day but needs to be activated by the front desk. The front desk can be reached by the phone in the room (however the number to dial is not revealed so I had to use my cell. Having arrived in the evening, the windows were open, heating off, and the room chilled - the very slight heating did not manage to bring the room to comfortable temperature, and night brought some issues with water pressure. Apologies were offered but still the room cost almost €200 with the bottom line of it being too cold and lacking running water for some hours. The restaurant is pleasant and the cooking highly solid, all the waiters were knew their stuff and were helpful and charming. Good to spectacular wine list. High end prices. Breakfast is solid as well, typical German hotel breakfast - nothing lacking, but also nothing spectacular.

Many portals warn about the journey. We had no problems getting to the hotel via the gravel road. We were given a very warm welcome and were able to move into the room in the attic straight away.
The room was very homely and comfortable. We immediately felt at home.
After we had inspected the lovingly and very well-kept surroundings of the hotel, we treated ourselves to an aperitif on the terrace. Wonderful, that's how the holiday day should start.
We can only recommend the hotel and the restaurant.

I would have preferred a buffet for breakfast. We were served a lot of things that we didn't want and there was a little too little of what we like.
But that is criticism at a very high level

For the 3rd time. Always nice. Now renovated rooms too. But there is still room for improvement: the minibar is very poorly stocked and when I point out that one bottle of beer, wine, water and cola is a little too little for a suite, the answer is "you can take something up with you". But do I know whether I want something to drink in the evening? Even if it is brought, that is not OK. What is the point of the 70% empty minibar? And no water to welcome you? Here again the answer to the question: "Do other hotels do that?" Yes, others do, even in lower categories.
The mattresses are rock hard. But that is probably standard (and we may be sensitive).
The breakfast serves its purpose, but nothing more. The coffee is "okay".
The restaurant is still worth every trip. Lots of staff and everyone is motivated. It's fun.

Very friendly welcome. Very nice and clean room. Nice, quiet location. Plenty of parking.

We were lucky enough to enjoy dinner outdoors on a warm summer evening. Very good food, professional and friendly service.

We will definitely come back.

We felt completely comfortable here. Our dinners were excellent, the wine pairing was absolutely harmonious. The breakfast buffet has everything you need and the area is wonderful. The staff is courteous, almost caring. And what I liked was that the pictures on the homepage really corresponded to our room. Nothing was sugarcoated, we knew exactly what to expect.

The hotel is nicely located, but very far from Amorbach.
Our room was on the 2nd floor and only accessible via a narrow steep staircase, extremely difficult for elderly, disabled people.
The room had 2/3 sloping walls, the bed could only be reached in an extremely bent posture, when moving in the room you constantly hit your head.
The dinner and breakfast were excellent, the service attentive and very friendly.
Overall a nice address, for people with limited movement it is, at least partially, less suitable

The hotel is located in a beautiful area, just outside the small town of Amorbach. A well-signposted gravel road leads here. We are given a very friendly welcome. Our room is small, quite small and not particularly bright. The furnishings are far too rustic for me. A bit of modernity would have been better here. The beds are very comfortable. The shower room is not big either. That's fine for one night, but we don't want to stay here any longer than necessary. Breakfast is served in the restaurant. Here too, it is quite cramped. The buffet is absolutely nothing special. We expected more. The surroundings are definitely beautiful; you can take a lovely walk and look out into the distance.

"This is a very old hotel which is over 568 years old. I would not recommend the top floor, roof area corner rooms due to the wooden beams and slanting walls. I bumped my head several times. One also hears every sound from the neighbouring rooms. The rooms are also too small for 2 guests. The bathrooms are in need of modernisation. The plastic shower curtains are a "no go" for such a hotel."
