We stayed here for 2 nights during our recent tour of Namibia, 1 night camping and 1 night in a Family Bungalow. The camp pitch was spacious and there were several toilet blocks which were spotlessly clean. On the second day we moved to the Family Bungalow which was huge consisting of 3 double bedrooms, 1 en-suite and 2 further bathrooms. A large living room and very well appointed kitchen. Good WiFi. During our stay we did a game drive arranged via reception and a river wildlife boat trip. Both were excellent value and the guides were both excellent. We took our meals in the restaurant, but unfortunately this was the only disappointment of our stay. The food was okay, nothing special but the service was atrocious, on one occasion we had to ask 4 times where our food was and also had to send one meal back as it was cold. If we’d have had an alternative we would not have dined here, and unfortunately the breakfast wasn’t much better, service wise, the food was okay, buffet style but it arrived in dribs and drabs. Would stay here again but would try alternative dining. Recommended.

The popa falls resort is actually state owned but is nevertheless a very comfortable and good resort. Rooms are all air conditioned, well sized, with fly nets and own balconies overlooking a small river tributary. All appeared to be in very good condition. Restaurant is good with a nice choice of well prepared and tasty food, also a reasonable pool for a cool off. There are also braai cooking areas easily available and each room has a kitchen but maybe missing some cutlery and plates if you get unlucky!

There is a very small shop but not sufficient to be able to self cater, os make sure if you intend to cook for yourself you bring what you need, from food to washing up materials.._

All in all a good stay

We camped at Popa and the plots are large with clean, communal ablution blocks. There us electricity and lights and the quality is standard.
However, likely due to the pandemic, there were not many guests and the bar overlooking the rapids (Popa is not a waterfall but rapids) was closed throughout out stay and we had to marvel at the sunset without a cool beverage.
The evening meal was extraordinarily excellent!! The Kudu steak juicy, the vegetables perfectly cooked.
It is very well situated for visiting the Bwabwata National Park (a must) and the Kwhe Living Museum.
We didn't stay in the bungelows but I had a look at the luxury versions from the outside. They are very well spaced, each with a balcony overlooking the Kavango and if I had the money....

For a government run place the luxury chalet we were in (elephant) was very nice. Air conditioning and a beautiful deck overlooking the river. I would personally take out the ugly satellite dish disrupting the view as TV really isn’t needed here. We ate one night in the restaurant which had very few options, no atmosphere and a really loud tv. Despite lovely staff it just wasn’t very inviting so we bought snack food and wine at the nearby cash and carry and just enjoyed the room and deck. Breakfast was also unimpressive- if you got there after 8 nothing was replenished. While they will make you eggs you’ll be lucky if there is any coffee or toast left. I think without the luxury chalet there isn’t much point to staying here.

Air con not working, maintenance needed in bungalow and facility. Gave us a room key of bungalow next to ours with new air con, but bedding soaking wet with water dripping from air con. Complaint but nothing was done. Really not pleasant experience.

We recently stayed at the popa falls resort on our visit to the bwabwata np. The camp is really nice, we were lucky to get the elephant room (which is one of the four luxury units) and it was in our opinion the best with the terrace directly facing the okavango. We watched hippos and crocodiles directly from the comfy deckchairs.
The restaurant is often critiqued but apart from one lunch (we stayed for 3 nights), the food was good and the staff helpful and friendly.
I would also recommend doing a drive to the buffalo core area - we had great sightings there.

Came in as day visitors, had lunch at the restaurant, and drinks at the Jetti bar. Went on a boat cruise with skipper Claus, he was very knowledgeable and friendly, we saw many Hippo and Croc along the Kovango. The rates for SA residents were affordable.

The rooms were clean and neat. These were very big rooms with a fridge a table and chair. A huge couch. And another 2 chairs and a coffee table , perfect for just that . Kingsize bed and a mosquito net , plus insect repellent lotion were provided . The toilet is seperate from the bathroom . Perfect. A Nice balcony facing the stream and a bush , I could sit there for days on end .

The rooms are brick and glass with grass thatching the roof.

I'm going back there.

This is the best NWR Lodge by a long shot. We were booked into the Rhino Room, and it was simply stunning. The chalet was massive and clean with premium furniture and a beautiful bathtub. The bed was so comfortable and the sound of the water outside meant we never closed the doors on the beautiful balcony.

My room here was one of the nicest I've stayed in. It was huge, with a living area, massive balcony overlooking the river, a bathtub and shower, and a kitchen area. The room is a bit of a walk from the main reception area. Food service was quite slow, but the food was very good.
