I expected more from resort considering price I paid for food and room. Food took forever to be served and not always exactly as ordered. Staff seemed stretched. Small view was nice but didn’t make up for a sense of rush me in and out of resort.

I told them while checking out, this was the best hotel experience I've ever had. (I admit we has a suite with extended balcony which they said was the best room in the hotel for views) Everyone went out of their way to make my wife and I comfortable. The location and views were spectacular. The pool time was very enjoyable. The restaurant was really really good. We ate their numerous times. Location was in a great spot.

It is challenge to write this review. I've had the pleasure to stay at the Amara on 4 different occasions since my first stay in February of this year. The staff here is amazing, they remember your name, they ask about your day/stay, and are just genuinely amazing people. I love the complimentary valet and that it's more like a boutique hotel. My only complaint is the quality of the rooms. So, I would say that the 4.5 star rating it has above should definitely be reduced to at least a 4, if not a 3.5 star resort. On my very first stay the room was nice enough, I think they may have pulled out all stops for my first stay with them. The funny thing is that as I kept returning each month, the quality of the rooms assigned to me started to go down. I thought you're supposed to reward loyalty? Confused. My last stay is what broke the camel's back. We paid close to $600/night for a mattress that was so in need of replacement that ended up with severe, shooting lower back pain. I've never had lower back problems. The bathroom tub porcelain was cracked and missing in multiple places, the soap dispenser wasn't working and the nooks and crannies of the room and bathroom were in desperate need of deep cleaning. I called housekeeping and they never showed up. I left and went next door to the L'Auberge and stayed there for about same price. L'Auberge was night and day in terms of room quality. So much more luxurious and the bed was like a dream. And after only staying 3 days at L'Auberge, they've already sent an email with a room discount code that includes $40 breakfast credit. Wow, imagine that! Rewarding loyalty! I haven't received any such promo code (or room upgrades) from Amara even though I've spent well over $14,000 in the past 3 months at their resort. But, my money and I will be at L'Auberge for next month's and future Sedona stays.

I was skeptical of my stay but was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. The staff is friendly and accommodating and they truly try to make your stay pleasant. We had a courtyard room with amazing views. I don’t think there is a bad location for views. If you want a quieter location I’d suggest creekside. Evenings could be a bit noisy from the courtyard. It didn’t bother us but I’d imagine it might bother some. As others have stated, the rooms are in need of a facelift. Amenities for the room are lacking, especially considering the price paid. The poolside bartender left a lot to be desired. He was not the same caliber employee that we encountered during the rest of our stay. The pool is very small. If you want to lounge by the pool get there early.

My friend and I went back and forth for a week or so trying to decide where to stay in Sedona, and I'm so sorry we selected Amara. While the location is great, everything else was pretty disappointing overall. Our room faced the back near the sewer system and was very dark. One of the mattresses had a huge sinkhole in it; when we went to the front desk to ask about what could be done the woman there told us "we're in the process of changing all of the mattresses". OK, thanks for the newsflash. Here's how I would have handled it "I'm so sorry you're experiencing that, while we are fully booked, here is a coupon for a free drink at the bar" or some such. The hostess at the restaurant was completely miserable and nasty. Danny the bartender and the other male behind the bar were nice, but the women were overall unpleasant. Steve and McKenna (?) at the front desk were also nice. The hotel is VERY understaffed and sometimes didn't answer the phone. It was hard to get your room cleaned and most of the time when we got back from our excursions it was still unclean. They didn't take towels away but just put new ones in the bathroom - didn't clean the sink or scummy soap dish. Restaurant was just OK - very limited options. The few entrees we tried were pretty good. Almost all of the outdoor heaters were broken and/or sorely in need of replacement -- falling over, bent, not working, etc. The grounds were again, just OK - the "grass" shown on the pictures was actually astro turf, which I guess makes sense due to the dryness of the area, and the 2 firepits were always taken. Wasn't able to try the spa as it was "booked for months" but you can put yourself on a waiting list - and we were offered a spot in the middle of the day because some people had cancelled, but we were unable to change our plans. The pool and hot tub were not bad, the hot tub was constantly full. Would I go back here? Absolutely not. So many other places that looked nicer. But like I said, location is right in town. Definitely ask for a room facing the mountains or creek, they're much nicer.
