As the title suggests, this property is FANTASTIC if you are travelling with kids. Between the Lazy river and other activities, there are lots of ways to keep little ones entertained. That being said, if you don't like children or want to avoid them, think twice about staying here. There are very few adult only spaces, and most of them require paying a premium to access. This makes it challenging to get away from the noise and distraction of kids. That aside, my junior suite was absolutely beautiful, the onsite restaurants were phenomenal, and the fitness centre rivalled many full service gyms. Staff were welcoming and made my experience and overall positive one!
Beautiful resort with plenty of amenities for business travelers and families. The buffet breakfast at Tia Carmen was not to be missed. Every staff member we interacted with was top notch, especially at the pool area. The rooms are spacious and clean. THe ballrooms and meeting areas are wonderful for a large group, with meal service being especially plentiful and speedy. All around great place for business and pleasure, even in the off season.
Can I just say how blown away I am about our recent experience at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge. It was my Daughters 10th birthday and we did a girls get away with my sister and her daughter. It started with Matt Miller and her birthday surprise. He came to the room and brought ice cream , sparkling cider and chocolate. Should I say this was just the beginning of these girls living there best lives. The next few days Matt Miller , Josh Ruano, Fabiol Rushani , Andriy Vasyutyn , and Sherry Rillera made the next 2 days unforgettable. They served , checked in and showered us with love. The last night we were there my sister and I enjoyed some sangria and watched the girls make Sheryl Temples that were left in our room for the girls to make with flowers. I felt like they were part of your family. Everything was amazing. The view , clean room and amazing staff. The girls are already planning there next trip. Matt thank you and your team from the bottom of our hearts. You made our experience magical.…
Oh wow where to begin. This place was amazing from the very beginning. From check in to check out it was fantastic. The staff are super helpful and friendly. The grounds are amazing and beautiful views. The swimming pools are fun and relaxing. The room was big and comfortable. Special thanks to Tracey at the front desk. Fabiol R , Andriy V. And Josh R for in room dining service and huge thank you to Mr. Matthew Miller for helping to coordinate our special weekend. Mr. Matthew Miller even helped us on his day off. Imagine that, working to make our trip amazing while you're on your day off. That's such dedication! You all were amazing. Each one them made our anniversary stay so wonderful that we decided to extended our stay, that's how amazing it was! They went out the way to make our stay memorable and wonderful. We will definitely be going back. We were there from 6/25-6/28…
Hotel itself is very large but seems mostly empty. Undergoing renovations in the main lobby area and some of the rooms. Check in took over 4 hours and after traveling for 10 hours by plane, this was extremely annoying, given that the hotel was clearly under booked. Pool area is where most people gather it seems. There is a very small water park for the kids which includes one slide (very small) that goes into their lazy river. It is very lazy. The pools with the cabanas are a little nicer but they are outrageously priced, even when not rented to capacity. On top of the cabana charge there is an automatic 20% service fee that goes into a general pool for all the staff, then you must tip out your cabana server on top of that. For a midweek $500 cabana, that is over $600-750, depending on how you tip. South beach prices are less than that. I’m addition the food is really pricey. For a place that has a “water park” and advertises towards kids, the choices are extremely limited for them. The pool menu has 4 items, with chicken fingers and fries being $18.00. The patio dinner menu has no kids menu advertised at all but you can request chicken finger at least. Given the extremely hot Sun, the cabana was the way to go for us, but just be prepared for the sticker shock and limited choices. Rooms were standard. Nothing exciting to write about. I had a pool view 2 Queen which served its purpose but it has too much furniture in it for such a small room. It has a small round table shoved under the attached dresser rail because there is no where else for it to go and one chair. There is also a useless chaise lounge in the room in a very awkward position that you can’t even access, it just takes up space. Beds were comfortable however. Showers were nice. Overall the kids had a decent time playing with other kids and trying something new. Not sure I would return however.…
Brandon was super accommodating. I was dressed for business and he even brought a towel for me to sit at a chair by the pool bar so I wouldn’t ruin my white dress. Very knowledgeable about the area and kind. Shout out to Alejandro and Sammy Kaplan also!
We enjoyed the JW during our stay this past week in Phoenix . We travel as a family of 5 so we stayed at the Canyon Villas but as guests there we were able to use the pools at the JW. The property is magnificent . The pools overlook a desert golf course which overlooks a scenic mountain range . The water features throughout the property mimic the natural beauty of the area. There are multiple pools and a Lazy River. The pool bar offers drink and food service - we highly recommend the nachos with chicken and the tacos . If we were to travel again as a a couple we would for sure stay here . The on-site restaurants are also excellent , the gift shop well appointed , and the Starbuck’s onsite was great for early morning pre-pool stops .
Recently my husband had work that brought him to Phoenix, and once I found out where he booked, I of course wanted to join. I am a stay at home mom to two kids (4.5 and 2 years old) and am always looking for a family friendly resort in Phoenix. Some of the boxes that a hotel needs to “check” for our family include: child friendly amenities, clean and fun pools, helpful staff, and dining options on site. The JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge literally has it all! -Check in/Lobby/Bell Desk: Our check in was smooth and my husband’s interaction with the front desk staff was amenable without being overbearing or ingenuine. We used the bell desk later on in our stay and IAN was not only kind, interacted with my children wonderfully, but was efficient and went above and beyond to load up and tag our things quickly. Ask for him when you stay! -Staff: I cannot shout our gratitude and amazing experience loud enough! This is one of the many ways the hotel exceeded our expectation, and we travel a lot. We never passed by anyone that didn’t stop what they were doing to smile and greet us. Each staff member appeared hard at work and working as a team between the restaurant staff, pool members, and family escape. The employees that really made our visit special with exemplary customer service, kindness, and a genuine goal to help, include in no particular order: ~Front Desk-Tracey ~Tia Carmen-2 gentlemen servers ~Pool-Devin and Courtney at the main pool, Tori at the Lazy River Day Suite ~Family Escape-Cheyenne, Mia, and Terry (also a concierge who greeted and interacted with me in the lobby on one of the days) ~Room Service-On one of my evenings after returning into the downstairs restaurant/sitting area after making s’mores with the kids, I was greeted and checked in on by MATT MILLER. We shared a very pleasant conversation and I couldn’t stop gushing at how perfect the stay has been, how we had found each of the staff above par (a treat in Covid times) and how much I was looking forward to sharing my experience and feedback online and to Marriott. That night I found a personal letter slipped under our door detailing a surprise that Matt lined up for us. Matt organized an amenity tray delivered to our room which included chef prepared snacks (the chef found and prepared eggplant (and gifted one of their 3 to bring home) after I had mentioned I love zucchini blossoms, and saw vegetables in their beautiful garden) and drinks in line with our culinary preferences and a beautiful floral arrangement (days later and the flowers are still gracing my home). The high class and attention to detail encouraged us to extend our business stay another night and Matt even personally delivered diapers, in the right size without asking, since I was going to have to make a shopping trip due to the extension. Who does that!?! A BIG shout out to Matt and his amazing staff in the Room Service Team including: Chef Todd, Fabiol Rushani, Alex Baumann, Denza McCarthy, Bu Reh, Andriy Vasyutyn, Rhylee Overson, and Yan. You made my family’s stay a “WOW” experience (so much so we didn’t want to leave and booked another night! And we have our next trip booked as well) and I can tell you work hard, and put love into your work. Thank you for investing this effort into the hospitality experience. You have made us want to stay exclusively at your property when visiting Phoenix, and to share our experience with our business partners, friends, and family. You are an asset to the Marriott brand! -Family Escape: This was a big reason that we wanted to try this resort. The activities are varied and the staff was very kind and engaging (Cheyenne you are the best! Samson and Evelyn miss you so much already). The A.C. needs to be increased in this room as it was uncomfortable to spend a lot of time in there because it was very warm. We loved that there was a bathroom in the craft area. This space was a perfect way to break up pool time, doing a craft or playing with the blocks and being creative.…
Matthew Miller assistant F&B MGR is singularly the best hotel employee I have known. I say that as a young 18+ career in the airline industry, I've hired hundreds of staff members, and traveled broadly, I know what it takes to handle a consumer relationships job, what it takes to please a guest. Matthew has 100% and more of these qualities. . Thoroughness . Good will . Communication skills . Smarts! . Problem solving skills Matthew wants your guest to immerse themselves in luxury before they even check in. My interactions with Matthew made him feel like a friend to us. I hope Marriott can properly reward this unique team member. A huge thank you to Matthew M., Sherry R., Fabiol R., Andriy V. for the endless thoughtful surprises delivered (cocktails, food, flowers, rose pedals and so much more) Thank you for elevating our girls stay. It was a staycation to remember.…
This was a great place for a girls getaway. The staff was friendly and the hotel clean. I do wish they had more places to eat for lunch but there are great restaurants within a 5-10 drive. I highly recommend the spa and Meritage for lunch. It was also very conveniently located near the Desert Ridge Marketplace.
