Owner-managed and blissfully private, Majeka House is an ideal base from which to explore the historical town of Stellenbosch with its interesting shops, galleries, museums, and alfresco café culture. Numerous famous vineyards and award-winning restaurants, dotted along the Stellenbosch wine route, are within striking distance. This prime location combines with luxurious accommodation, thoughtful service, a sophisticated bar and restaurant, a professionally run spa and spacious grounds to create what is undoubtedly one of the most stylish boltholes in the Cape Winelands. After extensive renovations and a designer makeover in 2011, Majeka House now boasts 22 rooms and sophisticated yet witty interiors. There are two new luxury mountain suites above the main hotel with large mountain-view balconies, and three new junior garden suites overlooking a shared, exclusive-use pool area. And, while the entire hotel is ‘parent friendly’, there’s also a fully self- contained villa – set apart from the main hotel and with a large private pool and garden – that is designed specifically with families in mind. The new suites were all conceptualised and decorated by interior design wunderkind Etienne Hanekom, who is also responsible for the award-winning interiors of Makaron Restaurant, the lobby and bar. They capture a sense of drama with boldcolours, rich textures and eye-catching custom-designed wallpapers but are also comfortable, inviting spaces for complete rest and relaxation. All contain thoughtful extras, such as comfy Crocs instead of hotel slippers, a Lavazza espresso machine, Wi-Fi internet and a DVD player with a wide choice of movies. The spacious and cleverly designed en suite bathrooms are fragrant with local toiletries made with indigenous plant extracts. In Makaron Restaurant, a stylish, contemporary interior using a clever mix of repurposed and recycled furniture complemented by modern statement pieces has been created. The result is a visually stimulating space that offers extreme comfort and encourages complete immersion in the dining experience. The overall effect is an understated feeling of luxury.Airy and light, the restaurant overlooks lush gardens and leads onto a sheltered terrace for alfresco dining. It is in this stimulating setting that resident chef Tanja Kruger presents her menu of fresh, modern cuisine grounded in the French classics.

Detailed Reviews
My fiance and I stayed at Majeka for 3 nights and had a really nice stay.
Overall I found the hotel very nice although slightly bizarre. The restaurant, bar and rooms are very nice and decorated to a high standard with quirky design features. We had a Mountain View room which is the 2nd highest category and was spacious and well decorated with separate lounge area and a large and nicely done bathroom with his and hers sinks.
We didn't eat in the main restaurant so cannot comment as Stellenbosch has so many amazing restaurants in the vicinity we didn't want to be staying in, although breakfast was very good.
The bits I found slightly bizarre were
*Clearly someone has gone to a lot of detail on making the hotel 'design led' with quirky and cool interior design, most of which are very nice and well done. It did however feel that certain parts of the hotel had been forgotten about.
*The main example of which is the indoor pool / spa. This in person appeared extremely dated and tired and I felt if the hotel refurrbished it, even something as simple as re-tile and re-paint it would drastically change the appearance and feel of it. I felt it certainly took away from the supposed 5* feel.
*When I arrived at the outside of our room, seeing the white PVC door I was quite worried about what lay inside, again changing the cheap plastic looking doors to the rooms would go a long way, they also had no internal lock bolt lock which was slightly worrying from a security point of view as technically anyone with a keycard could have accessed your room anytime even whilst you sleep.
*The final thing to note (and I admit I did not see this on the website although it does say) is that certain rooms do not come with any access to outdoor swimming pool. As mentioned I was in the 2nd highest category of room and strangely the way the hotel is set up, the category above and below had access to pools but we didn't. I found this extremely strange and worth noting if you plan to book this category of room or want to spend time outside sunbathing.

Booked the Total Renew package for myself and 2 friends. We were extremely excited and looked forward to this day for a long time. From start to finish, the entire experience was amazing. The friendly welcome at reception, the beautiful decor and stunning surrounds. The facilities are extremely well kept! Truly the best full body massage I have ever had - please compliment Monalisa -she was superb!!!
Food and drinks also amazing! Will definately be back....soon I hope.
Only recommendation is to provide disposable/cotton slippers
Changing rooms were very limited

We were finishing our vacation in South Africa and ended our trip in Stellenbosch. Majeka House was highly recommended to us. Upon arrival to the property we were told our room wasn't ready and there was no power in the facility. A little strange thinking a hotel would not have a back up generator and that such issues are present. My husband and I left the property in good spirits being told it would come back in a few hours and so we left to local wineries. We came back at 7 pm and the power had still not come back. At this point, we were pretty frustrated because we hadn't checked into our room, couldn't shower, make any reservations to the spa, and were sitting in the dark with a few candles. We waited another 2 hours until the power came on and had dinner. Dinner unfortunately was extremely underwhelming and I was highly disappointed that a dinner over 1,000 ZAR could be that poor especially since we had no power all day, and you would think that the hotel would do everything in their power to ensure that services should be amazing after such mess-ups. Unfortunately, during the night the power went out again and we had to sleep in an extremely hot room without air conditioning during the night.
I can understand that there are issues out of the hotel's control but we were never even compensated, or reimbursed for any of these serious issues. Truly, it is a beautiful property and has so much potential but unfortunately I cannot say I could recommend it to others.

Dear devlo0104, Thank you very much for leaving us your review about your experience at Majeka House. We are of course very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We would however like to clarify that electricity load shedding is happening all around our country at the moment and has nothing to do with Majeka House in particular. Load shedding happens often twice, thrice a day for a maximum of 2 1/2 hours during stage 2 and 3 that we have been imposed by ESKOM, but definitely not the all day as you indicate in your review. We do have a generator, which due to our calm, quiet and secluded secure neighborhood can only be used at certain times of the day from 7am to 2pm and again from 6 to 10pm. We are unable to use it at night out of respect for our neighbors. Unfortunately during your stay our generator's filter caught fire and we had to wait for our technicians to come and assess the situation before being able to switch it on again. Nothing was damaged luckily but for safety reasons we could not switch it on before it had been checked. We are of course sorry that you did not enjoy your dinner with us, our chef as you can imagine also has to work in tough conditions for the preparation of the food. We have already investigated on what happened with your orders and apologize profusely for the mistake that was made at your table. Kind regards Karine

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights in December for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We really wanted to love Majeka House, but if I'm completely honest it was a bit of a disappointment for us. The hotel itself is decorated well but is quite run down and has a dark feeling throughout and lacks atmosphere. The bed was comfortable but again with the room, perhaps this is just me being picky but I found it so incredibly dark and gloomy. It certainly isn’t 5*. The pool area is the best thing about this hotel, it's open pretty much all day and was never very busy. The spa is cheap but you really do get what you pay for. The worst thing about this hotel is the staff. They try provide a good service, but actually come across very creepy. The waiters at breakfast stare at you whilst eating … waiting to take your plates away from you. All done with a good heart I'd expect but it made us feel uncomfortable. We didn’t try the restaurant but had breakfast which was very good and of high quality. All in all probably could be a lot better and for the price we paid to stay here we expected a lot more.

Dear AMD087, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us a review on your stay at Majeka House. We are of course very sorry to read that we were not a fit to your expectations during your December trip. We take pride in keeping our hotel in pristine condition, this is precisely the reason why we close yearly for an entire month to be able to renovate and refresh all areas. We are actually very proud of the moody warm and comfortable feeling in our rooms. We are definitely a 5 star operation and get assessed yearly by a legal organisation to deserve our stars. As a team we are highly offended by your comment, none of us are "creepy" we just really make sure that we provide the best service possible by being attentive and anticipate your every needs which involves looking in your direction . We do not stare. Regards Karine

We spent a night at Majeka House in August 2021 and were WOWED! The decor in the hotel and the rooms is exquisite, so unique and striking.
The rooms are so comfortable, with huge beds covered in soft linen, gorgeous bathrooms and honesty bars filled with local craft drinks.
What an exceptional stay, and trust me - the breakfast is worth it so make sure you go hungry. So much variety and all beautifully cooked and presented.

We are at the end of August 2020 and still in lockdown in South Africa! I was absolutely delighted when I could finally book my staycation at Majeka House in Stellenbosch when we moved to Level 2 earlier this month.
It is hard to believe that this beautiful tranquil is in the center of Stellenbosch! With a bold, plush, highly individual style, this small luxury hotel with beautiful gardens and destination restaurant ake for a seductive escape. In fact, Condé Nast Johansens pits Majeka House as the 2017 Award Winner of the Best Design Hotel in the Luxury Hotels.
Dining at Majeka House’s Makaron Restaurant makes for the perfect date night venue. It was my 3rd time having dinner at Makaron, and it is still by far one of the best dining experience venues in the Wine Lands.
Due to COVID-19 hotels can no longer offer a buffet breakfast option to their guests. However, I absolutely loved the fact that Majeka House offered all their guest their own little breakfast buffet experience on their tables, which ensure that it was safe to enjoy this little luxury.

From arrival to check out we were treated with the highest levels of service, including an upgrade to the amazing garden suite.
The amazing spa treatments were a wonderful start making sure we were totally relaxed for the rest of the evening.
We loved the peace and tranquillity of the spa area and made use of all the amenities including a good swimming session before breakfast.
The amazing décor and super comfortable bed with the softest linen and darkest blackout curtains were the conducive ingredients for a most peaceful nights rest.
Breakfast on the Saturday morning was thoroughly enjoyed with the Salmon Eggs Benedict a superb treat.
Bottomless cappuccino’s enjoyed in the setting of the well manicured grounds were the perfect end to our all to short stay at Majeka.
The only disappointment was not being able to have dinner on the property and having to transfer to Stellenbosch for our evening meal.
Well done to superb team!
Thank you - we will be back

Unfortunately we only stayed here for 1 night. Upon arrival we received the warmest of welcomes and were fully informed of things to do in the area within no time. We participated in the Chocolate and wine tasting experience provided by the hotel and loved every second of it. Our room was very spacious, clean and our stay in overall was amazing. Highly recommended.

We spent 2 nights here at the Majeka House. It’s super cool designed. The staff was always friendly! Breakfast here is really special and good. They have several juices, several sweets and you can choose from the a la carte menu. Which is also good. I can recommend the omelette and the eggs Benedict.
We had a big nice room on top of the main building. It was very modern. BUT a little run down. In the bathroom the walls are a Little Dirty and you can tell that the refurbishment was quite some time ago. But still it has its own feeling and i liked it.
We used the free laundry service and also the staff was super nice.
If you look up your hotel earlier ;) you know it’s not in the center of stellenbosch. That wasn’t a problem for us though we used the taxi service of the hotel and Uber. Not a problem and the uber rides are super cheep.
They had a big Terrasse that we could use work our room and we could use the chairs lay on. Unfortunately it rained a day ago and the blue chairs stained our clothing! Really need to do something about that. It was already dry so we thought we would be fine.
Other than that we had a nice stay here, everyone was friendly and they have outdoor pools if you just walk around the property. We used one of them. I think they have around 2-3.
Just take a look people 😅
Right now they have power cuts and when we arrived there was no electricity but most times they use their generator so we pretty much had electricity all the time after we arrived.
