Property's Favourite Review
Our stay at Sugarbird was purely magical. The setting is unbelievably beautiful and tranquil with a beautiful mountain view. We went hiking for the day in Jonkershoek and had wonderful meals at nearby restaurants. Sugarbird is definitely one of our favorite getaways and the cottages are unbelievably comfortable.

We enjoyed a 3 night stay in one of the cottages and found everything to be first class
The accommodation was lovely with everything you could wish for. Lovely toiletries included and the room was serviced each day
The property is situated on the most gorgeous location overlooking vineyards with wonderful views
Breakfast is excellent and the home made granola yummy!
The staff are very friendly and let you know by WhatsApp when things like taxis arrive
We also enjoyed meeting the 2 cats and the hen!
We had no issue getting taxis into Stellanbosch including Uber
Would highly recommend a stay here

We were from October 15 – October 23. Guests of Sugarbird Manor and would have loved to stay longer. In our large cottage (C3) with sleeping, living, dining area and fully equipped kitchen (no oven) and views of the vineyard hills and mountains we felt completely at ease. We found a small oasis: the hotel has only 13 rooms. We particularly liked the seclusion and tranquility. It takes about 15 minutes by car to get to Stellenbosch city centre.
In the morning we were partly woken up by the bird or peacock calls. Depending on the weather, breakfast was served either on the terrace or in the breakfast room by the wonderful team. With coffee or tea and orange juice and homemade fresh muffins we started the morning until our freshly prepared breakfast was served. Each morning the selection consisted of granola with yogurt and fresh east, English Breakfast: you could also choose only ingredients, such as scrambled eggs and/or the “special toast”. Every morning there was a different version: sometimes in the style of “Eggs Benedikt” or with avocado or with mushrooms and cheese baked, but always with poached eggs. Breakfast was delicious.
The only downside is that only breakfast is offered. If you plan a day by the pool, you will either have to support yourself after breakfast or go to Stellenbosch for dinner.
The pool is not heated and on very warm days it offers a cool down and the phenomenal views of mountains and vineyards.
Shopping facilities and restaurants are available in Stellenbosch in large numbers.
The Sugarbird Manor team sends restaurant tips before arrival and we highly recommend testing the recommended restaurants. We were not disappointed and also had a great culinary trip.
Parking spaces are available on the fenced and secured premises. We took Uber to the city center or wineries and never had any problems with transportation. Wait about 15 minutes for the Uber to arrive. The hotel is also happy to forward the contact of a driver service. I used this for two day trips. Francois was a reliable, friendly and told me only about country and people.
We had a fantastic stay and we would love to come back. We would like to take this opportunity to send a big thank you to the entire Sugarbird Manor team, who have rounded off our stay even more.

An incredibly beautiful place near Stellenbosch. The very well maintained and modern guesthouse convinced us with its lovingly maintained grounds, very nice rooms and great general areas, a fantastic location (very well maintained large garden) and a wonderful view. We were absolutely thrilled! Megan was also very helpful in booking a bike ride or recommending a restaurant. Overall, we met a motivated and very friendly team there....
Breakfast we would like to mention again especially. It starts very lovingly for all guests with fresh fruit and delicious little muffins. Other egg dishes, breads etc. can be ordered as needed.
We would book with you again immediately! Thanks for the hospitality!

It was such a treat to be at Sugarbird Manor for 7 nights. I was in Room 14 which has recently been renovated to a very high standard on the ground floor of the main section of the guesthouse. Everything was uber clean, comfortable and secure and I could access the pool area directly from my room. There is a well equipped small gym, and also a spa treatment suite on the property (treatments are at extra cost). We used Sugarbird as a base to tour the wine estates in the Stellenbosch area as it's well located for this purpose.

Lovely property, so many plus points such as the views, the amazing staff, breakfast, location and security and rooms a good size.
Areas for improvement:
More drawers in rooms
Mirrors in room, ideally full length
Honesty bar is good but very limited stock, with the location being somewhat remote there just isn’t enough space in the fridge if many people want to bring their own food and selection of drinks to enjoy the venue and not always go out, we were told it’s not meant to be a “BYO” but they did try to accommodate us with the items we brought. We were there as a large group for a wedding so wasn’t always easy to find somewhere to eat out which resulted in food deliveries so we wanted to bring the drinks along, and ice, and the available selection just didn’t provide what we wanted across the group
We were told there are many acres to walk around but when we asked where we could walk we were told the gates were locked

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Our guesthouse is located on a 21-ha farm roughly 10 minutes from the center of Stellenbosch. The entire farm has fields of flowers and vineyards as well as extensive gardens, all accessible without any gates. With the exception of our Cottages and Garden Suites, our rooms do not have refrigerators. To be fair, the communal fridge isn't designed for the entire guesthouse (your group) to bring six packs of beer, liters of soda, and bottles of wine and spirits. Point taken on the full-length mirrors not installed in two of the new rooms.

We really enjoyed our stay again – this was our second time here. The B&B is located a bit outside of Stellenbosch, but everything is absolutely fine, and even in the evening, the drive is no problem. The swimming pool is beautiful, though in the late afternoon, the sun might be gone. However, there’s always a nice, wind-sheltered spot to be found in the courtyard.

We have just spent 4 wonderful days in a cottage overlooking glorious winelands scenery. Everything is perfect about this place from the stunning location to the idyllic and delicious breakfasts on the terrace serving home baked warm muffins with a different speciality dish each day. The staff are friendly and welcoming with a particular mention to Jannie with his engaging manner who gave us his time to introduce us to the estate and offer tips on places to go and what to see.

We had the most incredible time at Sugarbird Manor for our wedding weekend.
The views are spectacular, the breakfasts were delicious, and Jannie and his staff went completely above and beyond for us to ensure that our bridal party felt at home at Sugarbird for the weekend. We would 10/10 recommend staying at Sugarbird to anyone looking for accommodation in Stellies

Nice little accommodation just outside Stellenbosch.
Owners were very nice and friendly!
For breakfast there were three different options to choose from, which were freshly prepared.
Rooms were very large, but there was no decoration or anything like that and it seemed very cold.
Coffee was free all day long, but very watery.
To be honest, we would have expected a bit more for this price, even if you compare it to the other accommodations on our South Africa tour. .

Its safe and calm, there is electricity gate but recommended to travel by Uber or private transport as the road going into the manor has no lights. Only inside the manor will there be provided lights and backup by generator as well.
Hi Diane! I apologize that I never saw your question but even though I'm late in responding I hope it helps. We are 7 km from the center of Stellenbosch which is roughly a 10 minute drive from the farm.
Good day,
No, we do not offer food in the evenings, as we have amazing restaurants around us and in beautiful Stellenbosch, to which we advise our guest to go and enjoy dinner.
