We only had 2 nights at Kleinbosch but it was perfect - great location, great facilities, wonderful pool and surroundings and very easy access off the main road but set back in lovely grounds and garden so very peaceful. Hans and Noeline were very hospitable and accommodating. We had an evening flight but were able to use the pool and facilities after checking out in the morning (and am sure we would have been allowed a later checkout had the room not already been booked that day). Lovely people and fabulous place - would highly recommend.

We had a wonderful weekend at Kleinbosch Lodge. From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed and all our needs met.a real homely experience. Hans was an amazing host. The setting is beautiful and the rooms very comfortable. The pool was much needed in the summer heat. Will definitely stay there again.

We had a wonderful stay at Kleinbosch Lodge. The service, the appartement, the swimmingpool (with sunbeds and lots of towels), etc. were excellent. The lodge is situated at the neighbourhood of Stellenbosch, the golfcourses, etc.

What a wonderful find. This bijou guest lodge is in a beautiful setting set back off the R44. We took two rooms. Both were extremely spacious, lovely linen on beds and towels in bathroom, all changed regularly! The room has a small cupboard kitchenette with everything you need. Microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge. There is a little cafe opposite the guest lodge but we preferred to buy our breakfast from the great shopping centre a mile away and stock in fridge. Enjoying our breakfast sitting outside our room around the beautiful pool. Such a lovely setting. There is a communal braai also for those who enjoy cooking on the fire. The Lodge is right in the heart of the Winelands and we enjoyed visiting them as well as going on a game drive and wine tasting all within 15 minutes or less of the lodge. It is also only 45 minutes from Cape Town. The hosts, Hans and Noline, are most welcoming and want to make your visit as happy as possible. Our thanks to you all for a lovely stay. We will be back!

Wow! What a disappointing Christmas spent at this accommodation establishment.... I admit I should have listened to my gut feeling before even setting foot here. Coming across this accommodation on Booking.com I was intrigued by the beautiful photos of the rooms and the pool area. Hence, I could not think of a more special place to spent Christmas with my interacial family. I could not reserve a room on Booking.com, as soon as I added my 1 yr old son, as it showed that it was fully booked. I contacted the owner, Hans, directly and he was very accomodating regarding this matter. I sent him an email including the price qouted on Booking.com. His reply startled me, saying there was no way Booking.com would charge the price which I wrote on the email . I replied by sending him a screenshot, only then did he believe me. 1st red flag.... On our arrival at Kleinbosch, the owners wife came to the car. She was confused as to which room we would be staying in, and tried guessing. She then asked if I was coming alone and if I'm with an Uber, yet my partner and child was in the car with me.... We are not totally comfortable with dogs, yet respectful of them. However, she said if we don't like dogs that we should leave....She left the car to put the dogs away and check up on our room. What a welcome! However, we decided to stay, with a heavy heart... Hoping things would get better... We were then checked into our room, unpacked, only to be abruptly told by Hans, that his wife allocated the wrong room to us and we had to move immediately. The people who had to check into that specific room was literally waiting outside the room door for us to get out ...Because the facilities are so beautiful, I asked Hans if the room was available for one more night. While I was talking to him, he walked away and responded that he would check and get back to me, in a very unpolite manner, which he never did.... Eventually, we were settled in and thoroughly enjoyed the serene surroundings and clean facilities. At night, we used the communal braai area, R50 extra cleaning fee. Whilst having our supper, one of the dogs, kept on roaming the table and stood in very close proximity, which made us very uncomfortable, especially as our baby was scared and we did not know if we would be bitten. I phoned the owner to come and remove the dog , as this was no way to be having Christmas dinner.... A very nice young man came and took the dog away. Next, the shower, both the taps were marked as hot. Again, we had to contact the owner so that we could at least have a hot shower. He came and blamed the plumbers... However, the manner in which he spoke to us again, was definitely not like we were paying customers. The next morning we could not wait to leave this place place... Having traveled the world as a tourist and living abroad in different countries, studying tourism, working in the tourism industry for many years and now teaching tourism, I have never encountered such bad customer service in my life, hence this review. I will definitely be using this place as an example of bad customer service, of how not not to mix alcohol with business while dealing with customers and how to run a professional business. From other positive reviews, I can see that the owners are able to handle certain people with respect and when reading the negative reviews, you can also see the disrespectful manner in which Hans replies... Personally, I will most definitely not return or recommend this place, because me and my families' human dignity is much more important than having to be subjected to this kind of behavior... I pray that someday the owners will be able to treat all people equal and with respect. Looking forward to your repsonse Hans....

The property is set in lovely garden surroundings with fabulous mountain views. The rooms were clean, spacious and well equipped. The good sized pool was cleaned daily and was available for use at all times. There were plenty of sun loungers and other seating around the pool area and in the garden so there was always a choice of places to sit and relax in the shade or enjoy the sun. There are only four rooms around the pool area each with its own outdoor seating and tables so it felt very cosy and intimate. The owners Hans and Noeline were very friendly and welcoming. All the staff were very friendly and polite too. The lovely doggies Peppa and Pippa were a bonus! The location is brilliant as the property is situated close to several superb wineries all within a 5 to 10 minute drive and the cafe directly across the road is great for breakfast. There is a handy shopping centre with two supermarkets just a 2 minute drive away and Stellenbosch centre is less than 10 minutes away. Will be back !!

Response from Hans J Kast, Owner at Kleinbosch Lodge
Responded 21 Dec 2023
Hi Charlotte with Ian, thanks for this very favorable review on 'tripadvisor' and thanks as well for the review posted on 'booking.com' to which we had replied, but it was censored by the agent = we had apparently violated the rules laid down by 'booking.com' for replies to reviews. However, we didn't make any indecent remarks or similar, the only reason could have been to ask you to send us your email address that we can reply directly to you, which they most possibly didn't like. Thanks for the very elaborated review in both instances and it feels good, that you obviously loved our place. We can live for months on compliments like this and hope that we see you again before this 'feel good factor' runs out... It was nice having you at beautiful 'Kleinbosch Lodge' and here's to an encore of it, kind regards, Noeline & Hans J

The lodge was so great, we arrived after a long night flight in the morning, and we could go straight to our 2 rooms, which were adjacent the pool and very lange with a bathroom to boot. There is a beautifull garden and well maintained beds placed around the pool, which the friendly owner Mr. Hans checks every day if they are allright and with the proper towels provided by the Lodge. If you have any statues of an owl, please bring them, the owners seem to collect them and I counted more then a 100 owls on the premises :-) . Breakfasts and lunch are served till 4PM at the Bluebird Cafe, a 50 meter stroll across the road, very nice to hang out there too. I would certainly recommend this hidden gem of South Africa.

I attended a course in Stellies. Kleinbosch Lodge was great for that silent moment after a long day. The view is fantastic. Exactly what I saw in the pictures. Hans was so responsive to issues and even accommodated my request to check in a bit earlier. I will certainly bring family next time. I highly recommend the place, close to the city as well.

Nice big rooms with AC, which also work in heating mode! Outside seating with brai area. Tee and coffee is available in the room. Over all a very pleasant stay, and good value for money. It's a bit outside the center of Stellenbosch, so you either will need a car or a taxi.
