Detailed Reviews
From finding the hotel online, to check in, to the stay, to breakfast and to checkout, the experience was easy and pleasurable. The staff was super friendly, the rooms are beautiful with a great blend between eclectic and ultra modern. The huge bath that fills from the ceiling and the shower with a large rose and lovely soaps was divine. The stay was affordable and it is certainly a place we will stay again. We will be sure not to miss out on the cooked breakfast either.

My wife and I stayed one night in Stellies at Batavia Hotel. The service was great and the rooms done up superbly. We loved the light features in the room and decor in the dining hall. Complimentary breakfast was delicious, I recommend the salmon with scrambled egg and cream cheese! Plenty of great restaurants, shops and cafés within short walking distance makes the location superb.

We stayed here before our international flight back to Germany in a downstairs suite, well equipped with all amenities and very clean. Breakfast was very good with fresh fruits, juices and eggs cooked to order . We could store our luggage till we had to leave for the airport

Beautiful rooms. Great convenient location. Breakfast is good and well presented. Everything about Batavia is about the details. You have the impression that the decor is the central focus. However, there are a few gripes!!
The first important point is this is a boutique hotel. No water for the guests in their room. The water flowing from the shower or into the bath is cold. After many requests they have not been able to give us hot water.

The hotel is very central situated just a couple of minutes from the main centre. The gentleman on reception was very helpful with securing our car and helping with luggage. He showed us to a room which situated at the back of a small pool area, it didn’t match what I had been expecting but thought I maybe I was mistaken. We arrived late in the afternoon and had been driving some time so needed to stretch our legs and get some fresh air and therefore headed straight out. While we were out I checked my booking confirmation and the room did not match the description or pictures. However we arrived back around 9pm to darkness due to load shedding (no sign or information this was due to happen) They do have a generator but for lighting in the rooms only. The reception also closes down at 9pm. When we started to unpack a few things I then realised none of the windows opened and all covered by curtains as outside were walls etc. We could then hear someone in the room above going to the toilet. It was an uncomfortable night with lighting and someone’s mobile vibrating on the floor above. We went to breakfast which had a good selection of fresh fruits, yogurts and cereals. The cooked breakfast was ok not exceptional We didn’t see any other guests. I spoke to the same man at reception and said the room we had been given didn’t match photos and descriptions I had on my booking. He stated the booking system is automated and he would not have allocated and they were fully booked. I told about the noise from above and the room had no windows which were not completely covered, I felt I was in a converted garage. He said he would speak to the director. There was a woman who appeared now and again but seemed to avoid guests. As we were heading out for a wine tour he told us we would be moved. On our return the room we were shown to fitted the description and photos on my confirmation. It was a much nicer room with balcony and overlooked the pool with windows that could be opened. We left the next day again we saw no one at breakfast. The hotel is quirky and decorated in a old colonial style. It is a nice street and looks lovely from the outside. It was a strange experience and I was very annoyed that we had to challenge to have the room we booked and paid for, this was supposed be 5 star and it was not and I will contact our booking agent to seek compensation for the 1st night stay. Stellenbosch is so beautiful and this strange experience tainted our stay.

This hotel is in a superb location just a block from the heart of old Stellenbosch. The owners who seem to be a faceless conglomerate, don't care about their clientele and customer service. It is run on a shoe-string budget. The sparse, poorly trained staff never seem to be there. When they were there, they seemed to be always bickering. The breakfasts were of mediocre quality made by a untrained cook. The rooms are "tired" with a book of rules, (more like threats) about their antique furniture. It was reallya "self-serve" establishment. Very disappointing because Stellenbosch was not.

Coming from CPT airport we spent a night at this boutique hotel . The reception was friendly and very helpful making reservations for dinner , etc. Breakfast the next morning was plentiful and good . It was great to be in the heart of Stellenbosch , yet away from all the noise and traffic . The room was equipped with everything we could have needed ( tv, fridge , etc)

Nice little hotel in the heart of Stellenbosch 2 minutes from restaurants. Good welcome. The staff is very pleasant and very very discreet.
Mezzanine bedroom with beautiful shower room, a large bed but slightly hard bedding and a large connected TV.
A kitchenette with its high table, fridge, microwave.
The breakfast is nothing more, the coffee is mediocre and the "hot" dishes were cold and you had to ask for bread or coffee each time....oh sorry sorry...not great for a boutique hotel ".

We had a wonderful stay in the Batavia Boutique Hotel. The Concierge was very friendly and extremely helpful with all our queries and requests. The location is fabulous if you want to walk around the heart of Stellenbosch without needing a car. We will definitely stay there again.
