What a disaster. We were attending a wedding at the next door vineyard, and booked four different rooms, 6 months prior. We had contacted the venue at least 3 times and explained the wedding was an early start so could we please maybe get access to the rooms 30 mins early? We had also booked for lunch and arrived in plenty of time to again discuss our dilemma. The 4 couples only lived 2hrs away and arrived at 11:30 and went straight to the reception to say we had arrived and would go have an early lunch and if they could please let us just change in our rooms, we had all showered before so it was a 5 min wardrobe. Straight away it was a problem, the reception staff were far from interested and far from helpful. We finished lunch and went back to reception at 1:30 knowing that guests next door had probably already started arriving and that we were going to be fashionably late. Again we asked if we could please just change clothes, and that the wedding was going onto 1am so we just needed the keys, by this time 20 mins early. We were again told that by now only one room was ready and that the late duty manager would arrange keys when we arrived back….. My husband and I said that the policy was ridiculous and surely we could just have a key to gain access later on in the evening. Finally we were given a key but one of our group was not. We changed anyway and left. When we returned at 10:50 leaving early because we were more mature couples than many of the other wedding guests. We were shocked to discover NO duty manager and reception locked. Our friends staying in the room without been given a key decided to drive back to Cape Town rather than sleep on one of the couches in the other rooms. The next morning we went straight to reception to complain only to again be met with a far than sympathetic staff member. We were simply told to phone the manager the next morning and ask for a refund on the room. The setting is stunning in a stunning part of the world. The rooms are not cheap, and dated. So with the attitude they have please book elsewhere.

Superb location, but the place deserves a serious update from ’80’s level’ of facilities both in accomondation and restaurant deliverancies. This could be a super place but lots of management attention is needed to deserve a higher rating. Food is far from the superb standards of Cape area. Personell is however great!

We arrived on a Monday lunchtime, the sun was shining and although it had clearly rained the day before, the weather was lovely, and we checked in and asked for our picnic. I should have known by the slightly puzzled look on the reception desk that something was amiss. The puzzled look was followed by a search for my email, followed by another more puzzled look, followed by a phone call to the kitchen followed by them telling us the weather was too bad and the ground was too wet for a picnic. I think, in my opinion, they had missed the booking. The weather was fine, and the picnic area was populated by many benches, tables, chair and picnic furniture. The ground was never an issue. So they missed the booking. They did offer us lunch in recompense, it was very nice indeed, but it was not what we booked, and it did slightly deflate our birthday celebration. The same goes for the Spa treatments we booked, again with a birthday present voucher. The spa was not yet open, and the treatments took place in an empty hotel room with a very nice lady working out of a rucksack playing whale music on her phone. Again the treatments were good, the spa therapist was very good, but it was clear they were not fully up and running. Overall we had a good time at Alluvia despite our caveats outlined here (I know it may be first world problems and you might think “get a grip” but this is a review and it should be an honest review). I think had we arrived further into the season our experience might have been different but we had set this up as a big finish to our South Africa holiday and the edge was taken from it a little bit.

We booked for a picnic but sadly the weather did not play along with our plans. We were called And offered to be seated inside which we did. We were not disappointed with the stunning views despite the weather. The staff tended to our every need and we were really impressed with the service and even more so the food. Everyone absolutely enjoyed their meal. We will Definitely be back for our missed picnic.

In the past we used to go to Del Air when their focus was still more on wine than on commercializing their property and view. Still a nice place to go but it lost its charming rough edges in our opinion. So we stumbled upon another winery in the vicinity: Alluvia. Arriving at the office for checkin we noticed that from here we have the same stunning view on the mountains. The apartments we rented (room 2 + 3) are spacious and clean and overlooked the pool. We had our own deck and were shaded from the hot summer sun by the leaves of a large Oak tree. We could take a walk on the property between the vines or around the small lake, towards the donkeys, goats and guinea fowl. Small kitchenette, big comfortable bed and clean spacious bathroom, seating area inside for winter visits….and bottles of Alluvia wines on the fireplace mantel and in the fridge; what more does one need. There were some minor maintenance chores to be performed, but nothing mayor. The restaurant has a nice deck, overlooking the mountain of course. Breakfast was very nice. The quality of dinner was good, but the menu a bit predictable (Burgers, pizza, cheesecake, brownie) for a boutique winery. Maybe we have been spoiled too much. All in all we really enjoyed our relaxing stay and will probably return some day.

We had a wonderful time here at the hotel, we stopped 6 nights in room 002 and our friends stopped in 006. Both rooms were lovely, however the bathroom is in need of some TLC but nothing major. All the staff were great, the restaurant produced incredible food for our dinner and breakfast was fab too. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, Grant the waiter was our favourite and was a real credit to the hotel. Fishing was good, and the pool although a little cold was ok too. Views and the overall atmosphere was just fab. Very good location to have a mooch around and close to Stellenbosh and Franchoek. Uber is the best way so you can have a few drinks. Thanks again to all the staff for an amazing stay.

Fabulous location just outside Stellenbosch to stay. Highly recommend having a massage and relaxing by the pool gazing over the beautiful scenery. Staff were very helpful and always willing to help. Lovely breakfast too and I do recommend the iced cocktails and frappes.

As there was no free table at Delaire Graff Restaurant, their manager was so kind to reserve us a table at the Alluvia ***** Star Hotel nearby. So we went there for dinner. Unfortunatley this turned out to be a total disappointment. The smell of the raw tuna of the Poke Bowl as a starter indicated that this fish was far from being fresh, a potential hazard even to our health. We told the friendly waiter, knowing it was definitely not his fault. And he siad, that he will report it to the chef. Our main course was ordered already, a tuna steak cooked medium rare with basmati rice and vegies, and there again the tuna was just not edible. Obviously the cook, after he heard our complaint, changed our order from medium rare to well done. But still the fishy smell remained to the steak, what made us refuse to eat more than a frist bite for tasting. Unfortunately at night I woke up with a really bad stomach. Eating fish is delicate, we know. But in a five star place we would have expected it to be no problem. I had to pay for it twice!

Very positive experience: A belated but well-deserved review about Alluvia Boutique Winery and Luxury Accommodation. I had the pleasure on 2 occasions to interact with the staff, once for family and once for my wife and I. On both occasions it was a pleasure because of their professionalism and positive attitude. Because of circumstances many changes had to be made from dates to peripherals like flowers, dinner arrangements and the staff was accommodating especially Tyler Perez who coordinated a lot of this to ensure a very enjoyable stay. The facilities, venue, welcome, meals, wines and experience were more than what we expected, and we will gladly recommend Alluvia for a great experience.

Superb experience with the most amazing views. We absolutely loved staying here for 2 nights. The location is perfect, so beautiful surrounded by the mountains and so peaceful. We had a beautiful and spacious room overlooking the swimming pool. The staff was also very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be visiting again.
