We only had two nights at Lanzerac but we could happily have stayed a week.
The setting is wonderful and the hotel lives up to the location.
We stayed in a standard room but it was very spacious with everything we could possibly need including a free minibar which included a bottle of their lovely Sauvignon Blanc. The bathroom was huge with a heated floor which was a nice bit of extra luxury.
The only negative I have is that the minibar was not refilled during our stay but there was plenty in there so it wasn't a problem.
We are in both the Manor Kitchen and Taphuis. Both meals were excellent and, of course, were washed down with beautiful wine. The wine in particular was excellent value considering the quality of hotel. Obviously they are producing it themselves but most places would still put on a much larger profit margin.
As a resident you are entitled to a free wine tasting and cellar tour. Having tried the basic wines we were very happy to then pay for a second tasting of the vintage wines. All were extremely tasty.
I would highly recommend Lanzerac and I wouldn't hesitate at staying there again next time we are in the area.

This is a wonderful hotel in a fabulous setting. The approach from the gates down the tree lined drive is simply beautiful. You are met at the door with cool flannels and champagne, bags taken off and the car parked for you. Check in is quick and easy and we had a delightful suite overlooking the drive with mountain view. We used our complimentary wine tasting voucher selecting the wine and chocolate option which was great. The deli, where the wine tasting and cellar tour take place is also great as you can get little snacks and sit outside with a coffee.
We had dinner in the Kitchen Restaurant which is the more formal of the two restaurants. The food is okay but not amazing. Its a little fancy and its almost like they try a bit too hard and there is too much going on, on the plate. I had Pork Belly with crackling. There was 2 big pieces, too much for me, and the crackling wasn’t crispy. For dessert i had Passion Fruit Posset, which was soft and sloppy rather than set, with lots of other stuff on it that didn’t need to be there. For breakfast i had Buttermilk Flapjacks which were like pancakes, it was huge, with lots of maple syrup, creme fraiche, fried banana and a lot of bacon, way too big and sweet.
Its a lovely place to relax and i would love to return but i would not eat there, if you’re ok with the food, you do not need to leave the estate for the duration of your stay.

Our luxurious room faced a courtyard, it was beautifully decorated with a large shower and clawfoot tub. The breakfast each morning was fresh, plentyfull and the service was excellent. We enjoyed wine tasting and fine dining! Just walking around the estate was a great way to start the day, as the landscape is fabulous and the owls that sat in the tree above our room were memorable.

I was shocked when I went to collect my bags to leave at 9.30 am that the cleaners had already started in the room with duvets and pillows all over the floor and furniture moved haphazardly. I have never had this experience before and what made it even more upsetting was I had been ill the day before and had thought I might need to stay in the room longer.
Breakfast very slow. Only 2 tables and we waited over 20 minutes for coffee and had to ask 3 times for cooked breakfast and ended up with 5 minutes to eat.
We were told there was no room in the restaurant for us the evening we checked in. We asked if they could please try and fit us in at 6.30 and eventually we got a table.
We had a suite and a luxury room during our stay over the weekend and we were promised the manager would be in touch to discuss the issues we had its very disappointing that we haven't heard anything.
It's a shame we had been thinking of going back in May but definitely will be trying somewhere else now.

Dear 127brianv, Thank you so much for writing a review, and for the extraordinary compliments! Lanzerac is the third oldest wine farm in Stellenbosch, which gives us the great privilege of being very central. We are also close to the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve, where you can hike, run, mountain bike, or just go for a picknick at the waterfall. Definitely something to add to the 'to do list' for your next visit. We hope to see you in the near future! Warm Regards, Lanzerac Team

Your restaurant ! What a horrible experience in every possible way! Lunch was supposed to be our highlight and it just ruined the rest of the day for us.
We had a 130 reservation and arrived at 145 and our table wasn’t even set. We booked weeks ahead and requested outside and they put us inside.
We finally sat and right away asked the waitress to bring two cheese/meat platters as we just finished a 5 mile hike and not feeling well as we needed food. Our host who knows this restaurant and is a local asked us to order right away. We did once we could get a waiters attention! That was difficult!
One hour and 25 minutes later, 3 of the 12 entrees arrived and slowly over the next 25 min, the two cheese plates and the other 8 entrees arrived. Seriously!? Ridiculous! The last 3 served didn’t have one minute to eat and had to get them in Togo containers. We had a wine tasting reservation and also made our waiter aware of this. Needless to say, he didn’t care. Also no managers were on the floor. We insisted to speak to someone and no one arrived. That’s why the kitchen and dining room are a mess!???
The two vegans were served a vegan sandwich with cheese and their bread with butter on it! Does your chef know that vegan does NOT include dairy? I also heard them specially tell the waitress no cheese or butter. One hour and 50 minutes for all of our entrees finally arrived. May I add, the restaurant was NOT full.
I asked the waitress why the cheese platter wasn’t brought out an hour ago. It takes 10 minutes to prepare and we asked her to bring it out ASAP as some of us were really ill and needed food. She told us that it would’ve delayed the entrees if they brought them out first. Again! Really?? How absurd!!
So what was supposed to be our beautiful lunch was just such a disappointment in every way! It just ruined the rest of the day. No one apologized. No one offered to comp a bottle of wine. This is supposed to be a 5 star hotel/restaurant. I’d give you 0 stars if possible. The 12 of us have nothing to good to say about our experience and your establishment. This place is an embarrassment.

Having visited Stellenbosch many times but never staying overnight, this time l decided to spend longer here and explore more. But where to stay, the town offers so many hotels? I chose the Lanzerac and was not disappointed. Just on the edge of the town the hotel sits surrounded by its own vineyards, a stunning and peaceful location.
I was allocated a classic room which offered sweeping views out across the vineyards and countryside which l could enjoy from my private terrace. Inside the room was full of old world comforts, beams, large comfy bed, chairs, side tables. The huge bathroom offered roll top bath, separate shower and toilet and two hand basins. Underfloor heating was an added bonus in the evenings and early morning. Another surprise was the complimentary mini bar which offered a bottle of wine each day plus selection of soft drinks and snacks.
The Manor House had a very intimate feel with two fire places and seating areas, two restaurants and bar. Mornings a large buffet breakfast was set out offering cereals, juices, hot and cold dishes to satisfy the largest of appetites. Evenings you had the choice of both restaurants offering slightly different menu but the same high quality and large selection of amazing wines.
All the staff go above and beyond what is expected to deliver an outstanding service.
The comfort of the hotel, exceptional meals, outstanding service and stunning location all go to make Lanzerac the number one hotel of Stellenbosch.
Thank you so much for a memorable stay, looking forward to returning.

I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Lanzerac and don't know where to begin. We are from the United States, and my boyfriend had to come for work for 10 days. It was our first time to RSA. We were absolutely blown away and fell completely in love with the country, the people and Lanzerac. The property itself is just beautiful, from the views to the decor. It is so peaceful, charming, warm and inviting. All of the rooms are spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated and appointed, the bathrooms are wonderfully sized with everything you could possibly need. We absolutely loved the fireplace in our room with the windows open every day and night. The staff simply could not have been more fantastic with all of their personal attention and touches. Again, I will mention Gwen and Abraham and every single person in the spa. There are just so many wonderfully beautiful spaces to relax and soak up the beauty of the resort. It was a spectacular place for me to rest and recharge. The service is the best we have ever received and what sets them over the top. I spent 9 days in the spa enjoying all of their services, which were truly exceptional. Lanzerac has become our favorite hotel, and we travel quite a bit all over the world. I will forget to mention some things, but for example, our room was stocked with a plethora of vitamins specifically directed to fight covid which was a very nice touch. Lanzerac is genuinely a wellness retreat with a magnificent winery all in one. It is perfect for a honeymoon, wedding, anniversary trip, girls trips, families, or any celebration. We cannot wait to return at a time when things are full force and not restricted by covid and experience Lanzerac in the summer, although they did a great job making us feel safe while not limiting our experience due to the virus. We made very special memories, and are very grateful for the experience and the staff.

The hotel setting in the outer suburbs of Stellenbosch is spectacular, the grounds are manicured and maintained to an exceptionally high level. The exposed brick walls and Cape Dutch architecture is charming. The rooms and bathrooms are enormous and luxurious, in short, it was a perfect venue for our mini conference. The food was to a very high standard.
All eight members of the party were very impressed and one member of our party was so enthusiastic that he will be returning with his wife for their anniversary
