The service was impeccable, excellent and efficient. Thank you to Edgar and his team for making my mother's 60th Birthday special. The buffet was excellent, the food was tasty and fulfilling. I would highly recommend any function at this restaurant..

Stayed for 5 night and had a average experience.
Check in was fast and effective. had some trouble checking in a friend of mine at my 3rd night and had to wait exactly at 12:00 to check the person in. I was just surprised that no effort could be made even for 30 minutes earlier check in..
Breakfast was ok. Good variety of both cold and hot. The servers were some mornings difficult to find ( not enough staff) and had to call everytime one wants some service.
Meals were overpriced and the portion sizes were really small. Just a pity other places are far to drive to otherwise I would have opted for somewhere else.
Room Service is also overpriced with a tray charge of R 55.00.It's a pity room service is not served later as it closes at 22:00.
Room felt dirty. every night there were crickets in the room and one night a dead cockroach. gives an impression of a dirty room.
Parking is horrible if you stay in the vineyard rooms. Only 3 parking spaces for 30 rooms plus. Had to walk a steap hill and park about 200 metres away from the room in the sun. With luggage its not a comfortable experience.
Check out was a hassle as the quoted price did not match the final bill but was quickly sorted out by the receptionist.
I would love to have luxury rooms located on the ground floor as well.
The steps can be quite a challenge for people with walking disabilities.

We checked in pretty late in the evening around 11.30 pm absolutely exhausted after traveling for nearly 30+ hours. The gentleman at the desk said his printer wasn’t working so we would get the check in paperwork in the morning. I asked someone else in the morning but they did not know what I was talking about so after that I gave up trying. The room we were ushered into and stayed for 8 nights was small and crammed with furniture with no space to move around. The bathroom was large with a huge tub sitting in the middle and a shower cubicle, also pretty large. The sink was very small. There was no heating in the bathroom and with the weather dipping pretty low, it was absolutely freezing. It was so cold in the bathroom that the idea of a bath was simply preposterous. The heating unit in the bedroom seemed to be defective. It made so much noise all through the night and blowed cold air that we had to turn it off to get some sleep. We probably should have changed the room on Day 1 so that is definitely a regret. It was no fun to stay in that room for so many nights.
The quality of the food was extremely good. It was in abundance and freshly prepared every day with a lot of care and attention. There is a lot of staff around and they are helpful and always lovely. There is a wicked Lamb Rogan Josh on the menu with spices that are local- it is delicious. If you want the fresh pastries definitely go early in the morning. They are so yummy. It is a family business and the owner is very much involved in the day to day running of the hotel. He is lovely and friendly, always keeping an eye on the goings on in the hotel and the guests.
The location is beautiful. It is tucked away amidst vineyards on the hill overlooking the mountains. To go to the town you will need a car. However the views are spectacular. There is security at the entrance so we felt pretty safe. The hotel is very tastefully decorated with local art and furniture.
Housekeeping everyday was really a turn over service as no sheets were changed or floors cleaned in the room etc. On day 4 I asked for the sheets to be changed- it was done but it was met with a lot of ‘discussion’ I heard in the corridor amongst the ladies.
All in all, this was a good visit. Next time though, we would ask for a room change if we get the same room and get some clarification about the cleaning.

We spent two nights at this colonial style hotel as part of our tour of the garden route, and it is without doubt situated in the most stunning countryside. The terrace where we drank in the view and a few glasses of the local fermented grapes, slopes away to acres of vines, backed by the Helderberg mountains. The rooms are cosy , some have great views, unfortunately we were given the one looking out over a car park! We took dinner at the hotel on both nights, we particularly enjoyed listening to the talented saxophonist who played on the terrace. A very pleasant change from the chain style hotels on our tour. I would love to return.

An excellent choice for a sunshine mini-break to Cape Town just before Christmas.
This character hotel is tucked away in the beautiful Devon Valley, an oasis of vineyards and beautiful landscape that is less than ten minutes drive to the centre of vibrant and stylish Stellenbosch.
The Devon Valley Hotel is such a treat for those that want a cosy, comfortable hotel and want to avoid the predictable larger chain establishments.
A true "home from home" feeling with grounds that are lush and well tendered.
Friendly and most accommodating staff that make you want to return.
We stayed in a good-sized room with it's own little terrace and close to the hotel's main terrace area that is perfect for al fresco dining whilst enjoying marvellous views over vineyards.
And an added bonus, the hotel is minutes away from one of the area's loveliest restaurants, Clos Malverne with it's wonderful food and wine pairing menus.
We'll definitely be back.

We booked rooms for a wedding at Devon Valley months in advance, and 6 of the rooms got cancelled 4 days before the wedding.
Calls were ignored, promising of returning calls were barely met. It was one nice mess when we all arrived.
Management spun a story blaming booking.com when in fact 3 of the 6 rooms were booked direct. One of our guests were told they emailed to cancel the day before arrival and when we asked to see this email, no one was able to produce it.
It's one thing overbooking and apologising but taking no responsibility and blaming booking.com was so unprofessional and cowardly.
We got put in a self catering unit down the road for 1 of the 2 nights, and when checking out of devon valley they insisted I pay more than what I paid on booking.com (after stating at the time of cancellation that we would not pay anything more than what was paid).
If anything we should have paid less due to the self catering factor for the first night.
First and last time I will ever stay at this hotel.

My sister and I had planned a well deserved girls night away at Devon Valley Hotel. And based on the activities advertised on their website, we had no reason to leave the hotel. We arrived, to try the famous Wood fire pizza, to our disappoint, it was terribly soggy in the middle. Next, we moved on tastings, Whisky & Gin, we didn't have much of explanation of what we were drinking besides what we read on the tasting sheet, however, we know there was clearly not enough staff. So we didn't hold that against them.
Our next step, since there was no spa, was to lounge around by the pool, just to find a dirty green pool. We went to reception to complain, and we were told there was a burst pipe in the week etc. Didn't we feel silly walking around in our bathing costumes. Why were we not made aware prior?
The rest of our afternoon, we spent having cocktails in our room.
We had made a reservation to have dinner @7pm at the famous Flavours restaurant, we are both foodies and love fine dining. Reading up online about their dishes, dining here was going to be the highlight of our stay.
We were terribly disheartened to be served with the same pizza & beverage menu we received earlier that afternoon. We asked for the dinner menu, and to our disappoint, due to covid as explained, there was a revised menu, which incorporated the breakfast, kids, light snacks, ,wraps and mains menu all on one laminate sheet. Now during 2020/21, many restaurants have revised menus, we have no issue with that, but it should have been updated on their website.
Stellenbosch has many great fine dining restaurants, and if we had known earlier, we could have booked out to eat somewhere else for the evening.
The room was fine, no issues. I must note, all 6 employees who work there should be praised, although the facilities & restaurant let us down. The service was impeccable!
We only have 1 or 2 girls trips a year, so we are very disappointed that Devon Valley falsely advertised items that they knew they couldn't produce. We felt like because we were already there and paid, we were kind of held at ransom and just had to make the most of it.

We first came to DVH in 2011 and stayed in one of the recently constructed new (2008) Vineyard rooms, with magnificent views overlooking the mountains. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have returned for our ninth time in Dec 2022 after a three year, Covid induced, break. Covid was tough for the hotel and a number of staff were let go. However, during the pandemic, the staff worked on the grounds and the gardens look great. Breakfast on the patio, is delightful, the views are stunning (see picture) with the kind staff always attentive.
The hotel has a very efficient generator which kicks in after a few seconds – really useful given that every day, there is a power cut – or “load shedding”.
However, the rooms are starting to show their age, and although we love the familiarity each year, they are exactly the same (or worse), than when we first arrived and now look – and feel – a little dated.
For example, there were some relatively small little niggles, such as the wonderful feature bath (see below) now has a horrible and unsightly crack in it, the gas fire place no longer works, the tiles in the shower have slightly moved and are uneven, the blind has one of its strings missing and doesn’t open, the mirrors now have few small black spots of aging and the TV is now 14 years old with a small screen, thick rims and casing, whilst none of the 11 cable TV channels show any HD content. I watched the World Cup in far better quality on my laptop.
I spoke to the lovely and attentive General Manager, Marcus, who tells me that owners are now investing in major upgrades (starting with the hot water pipes) but it’s expensive and time consuming. It was also kind of Kelvin to speak to us and we appreciated their gift of a lovely bottle of 2006 reserve wine. We look forward to returning in a couple of years to see the changes.

The property is definitely outdated, which is sad considering the fantastic position and the great view. Make sure you get the room you have paid for, the reservation team is either not up to the work they should do or somebody just does not consider a room category paid for as important. Also make sure you leave with all clothes you have taken with you; things seem to disappear. Once contacted the hotel, nobody was interested to seriously look into the matter not give any feedback. There are so many places people really care about guests - this is definitely not one of them.

Our cottage was specular! The bed was incredibly comfortable...the bedding was incredibly soft and comfortable and felt brand new. The location is incredible, and there are many great wine estates to visit in the area.
Their breakfast is outstanding, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend staying here, you will not be disappointed!

geez -- good luck on your safari trip -- it's not complicated .... it's on their website...
I think it would be allowed but the restaurant is quite formal, in a good way, and most people we saw dressed for dinner, men in long trousers.
Yes we do. We accept all major credit and debit cards.
Hope to see you soon.
