Experience the very essence of tranquility and restoration by visiting The Salene. Previously known as Zarose, we have emerged with a spectacular new look and feel. Our piece of the sky rests in the heart of the Devon Valley, a mere 10 minutes from Stellenbosch – the second oldest town in South Africa and the very centre of its wine region. Our Manor House has been transformed into a rich and contemporary space, suitable for accommodating 24 people. In addition to this, we also offer 8 Self-Catering Cottages, providing families with an escape to the picturesque mountains of Stellenbosch.

We stayed in the Salene cottages which were well equipped and even had a hotplate for cooking during load shedding, which was great. There was a bbq outside and also seating which would no doubt be well used when the weather is warmer.

We were in a cottage with a mezzanine floor and whenever someone walked across the mezzanine floor this could be heard in the bedroom below, so if you are a light sleeper then you might want to avoid sleeping in the ground floor bedroom. The bathroom doors are sliding door and are not soundproof, so having a shower is likely to wake others who are light sleepers. Saying that, the cottage was perfect for our family and we enjoyed our stay and the lovely view from the cottage.

We had a fantastic weekend at The Salene with the best service, hospitality and breakfast we have had in many years of travel. The Salene's location is great, the views spectacular and the personnel friendly, accommodating and truly caring.

Thank you to Nadine, Deidré, Suney and Fiona for your hospitality, service and going the extra mile for our extended family as well.

We stayed at The Salene Hotel during our recent visit to Stellenbosch und absolutely loved it. It's located on a small hill and the view is just stunning. The entire hotel and the surrounding gardens are super well maintained - all very clean and neat. The hotel is at the same time incredibly stylish, but still has a certain warmth and coziness. The rooms are super modern, spacious, beautifully decorated with a lot of attention to detail. There is also a beautiful pool/pool deck from where you can enjoy the views across the countryside. And there is a small bar which has a nice selection of local wines, and of course coffee, tea, soft drinks, etc. We absolutely love the place. We had stayed at the hotel previously - it has now been renovated and reopened its doors just recently and we love it even more. We will for sure be back and have already recommended it to our friends who are planning to visit next year.

We loved our time at The Salene. The views were beautiful from the platform where we enjoyed a morning coffee and evening sundowners.

The room was clean and spacious, we had the terrace room.

The staff were friendly and Calvin was very helpful before our arrival with recommendations on where to go.

We would highly recommend the cycling vineyard tour with Adventure Tours - Sevvie was our guide and so knowledgeable.

We would absolutely recommend the lawn picnic at the Warwick Vineyard too - brilliant afternoon out with beautiful views, delicious vegan food and even better wine!

We would also highly recommend dinner at The Post & Pepper. The food is INSANE.

Thanks Salene, we hope to return!

Usually I start my reviews talking about the location, the rooms and so on. This time I want to start talking about staff. The whole team at The Salene is incredible. Special shout out to Nadia who`s taking care of her guests like it is her own family. Management can be extremely happy to have her on board.

The hotel is located between vineyards which makes it so lovely and easy for day trips around the area. It is a little boutique hotel with only like 10 rooms which makes it incredibly cozy. Rooms are super nice. if you have the chance, request to stay at room 9. The bathroom there is huge, even though I missed a socket there - there is unfortunately not even one for an electric shaver. The pool is a bit small and sun loungers are limited so it might get a bit challenging once everyone is back in the late afternoon to relax at the pool before heading to dinner (make sure you stay at Clos Malbec which is walking distance).

Breakfast is great. Lots of choices and the team is always eager to fulfill every wish you have.

Wow what a stunning hotel with some beautiful views. We were in room 11, however next would select one with a good view.

Our stay was wonderful, the staff were caring, friendly and couldn’t do enough. The rooms were spotless, cleaned daily to a high level.

Wonderful breakfast, wish hotel at least did eggs to order as the scrambled eggs were dry while being kept heated

Will be returning for sure next year.

Thank you to team and management

The cottages are a bit tired but the stunning views make up for it. The hotel itself looks ok. The breakfast range though small is varied. The pool is small but nice. It’s a shame they don’t serve dinner and one has to venture to other hotels fir this. Overall a cosy little place in gorgeous settings. The staff are friendly but the shuttle staff are the best very knowledgeable, helpful and great at conversations. 👍

We stayed at the Cottages which is down the road from the hotel. Neat and clean. Braai area outside. Two rooms per unit each with en suite. Bit of a haul getting from car park to rooms.

We had breakfast at the hotel ( at extra charge ). Really excellent.
