It was a very good stay. We have come here several times now and we keep coming back. The estate is situated on a hill a bit out of town what makes it very tranquil and peaceful. The gardens around are filled with with lemon trees and roses so it feels Mediterranean. This time we had a huge room in the barn with a roomy bathroom with two showers and a private terrace. We liked it very much because the bed was very good and it was quiet and all amenities were there At Marianne the breakfast is included and pretty good, with fresh food, hot and cold and also good coffee from a real Italian style coffee machine. The vineyard also offers wine tastings and the tasting manager is very good and friendly so a tasting is a nice experience, so you can taste some good wines while enjoying the beautiful views from the deck The restaurant and B&B is run by Cathy who is doing an excellent job and solves all problems with a smile. This year Marianne installed fiber so the wifi was very fast and working all the time. This month they will install solar panels so there won’t be any trouble anymore with load shedding too. We think Marianne is getting better every year so we will certainly go back there next year

We had a great and pleasant stay there; its very quiet up there because its a bit of the road and also a bit higher up so you have a beautiful view over the wine fields. Our room was near the pool and from our balcony we could even see the sun setting over Table mountain. Very special. The room itself is comfortable with everything you need so very well suited for even a longer stay. Breakfast is served in the main building and is very extensive with also many healthy choices. We were very pleased with the kind help of the staff. Especially Jessy made us feel very welcome and at home. I would surely recommend this place because its so nice and peaceful

we stayed in the very contemporary Lodge away from the main building, it is an exceptional place with the rooms grouped around the swimming pool. the rooms benefit from access to common areas with lounges, fully equipped kitchen opening generously onto the mountains and the vineyards. To top it off, a bottle of wine was waiting for us when we arrived in the room. The only regret was that the restaurant closed and we had to make do with the brasserie.

We arrived 15 minutes before check in time for a single night stay to be taken to our unit only to find cleaning staff hadn’t even begun preparing the room . An alternate room was given to us which we had to take as we were attending a wedding in the area and had limited time to prepare for. The room is designed with an open plan bathroom connected to sleeping area. I personally find this incredibly unhygienic and quite frankly disgusting. The fridge in our unit was also not working . South Africa today is under an electricity rationing system known as load sharing which currently lasts for 4 hours at a time. It’s in unacceptable for any entity offering guest accommodation in South Africa today not to have at least an inverter system to cater for the power blackouts. The units at Marianne are also dependent on electricity to provide water to units which is unavailable during load sharing as the management has made no provision to cater for this. Lastly breakfast is served starting at 8:30 am which is find incredibly late for a working farm.

The guesthouse is located in the center on the wine region between Paarl and Stellenbosch. Unfortunately there a several flaws which require mentioning: there is no backup system in place (e.g. generator or solar power storage, etc.) to compensate the energy dropouts during load shedding, which accumulated to 8 hours per day. In consequence this meant having no electricity, no running water and no toilet flush. All other guesthouses and restaurants we visited during our 3 weeks trip around the Cape region had such backup facilities in place. Breakfast was at best mediocre. Surprisingly for a winery owned by a French man only Cheddar cheese was offered. You had to ask for refills as it was never offered proactively by the waiters. The floor of the room we stayed in was obviously never wiped properly and a used wine glass was not removed. Besides the energy issue these are all minor things, however it accumulates. In summary, you can get better value places in the wine region.

Free wine tasting which was generous, with above average wines. Facilities were excellent. Breakfast included, which was eggs, pastries, cereal and fruit, more than enough. Ate at the restaurant and the food was of a very high standard. Small details, custard should be freshly made, not powder custard.

Night, wine tasting and dinner at the estate. Very friendly welcome, really well made wines. French is spoken there: the owner, a passionate man, is French, and several of our compatriots work there. Must do on the wine route! THANKS !

The choice to stay overnight in Stellenbosch is huge, but the only recommendation is really Marianne Wine Estate! Like so many, we had to postpone our honeymoon until it was possible again due to Covid-19 travel restrictions. We had originally booked in 2020 and were still allowed to come according to the same conditions as a married couple with a credit voucher on May 1, 2022. We arrived a day early, in the evening, due to a misunderstanding. This made no difference to the hostess Yolanda on arrival, she immediately called the manager Cisca. A hospitable solution in the evening was quickly offered by offering us a pool house room at no extra cost. We stayed here the first night, after which a malfunction of the geyser (cannot be repaired during national holiday) we were moved to the Manor villa suite. The personal attention of this great team in combination with the accommodation and the delicious winetasting by Willy brings us to the conclusion that there is no better place to stay than at Marianne Whine Estate in Stellenbosch!

We spent a night on the beautiful property of Marianne Wine estate. There we enjoyed the beautiful view and beautiful sunset. The guest house and the hole rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable. A wine tasting was included in the price. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. We would have liked to stay longer.

Set on a hillside with stunning views, this guesthouse gives you the opportunity to get away from it all and relax completely.
The staff at reception, in the restaurant and for wine tasting are amazingly friendly and make you feel so welcome. Our room had a problem upon check in and the staff not only resolved this but delighted us by upgrading our room.
We had our evening meal at Marianne and the lady looking after us was so friendly, doing everything to ensure we were happy.
The swimming pool was stunning and the views from there were amazing. I would totally recommend this place, the only disappointment was that we were not staying longer than one night.

Yes you can use Uber or a private shuttle service to get you to and from Stellenbosch. I would not suggest taking public transport (e.g. a minibus taxi).
Sorry. I cannot answer your question. We had a rental car so we were not in need to get e lift.
But they are very friendly and attentively and you should easily ask them for.
By the way: there‘s so much to see all around there. Therefore it is perfect to have an own car.

Hi Ann,
Thanks for getting in touch.
There are several Tour Operators that do day tours into the winelands. We work with a company called African Eagle who do a lovely day tour in a minibus. They stop at Marianne Estate of course and 2 or 3 others.
If you are in it for an overview and mostly for fun that's a great way of seeing the area. If you are more serious about wine, then it is probably best to book a private guide or drive yourself (if you are willing to spit ;).
Cape Town like any major city can be dangerous at night. Keep to well lit, frequented areas. Just be on your guard and don't do anything silly! If you can avoid taking a purse do that. Dont have too much cash on you. Don't wear your 10 carat diamond out... Mostly common sense. But, indeed, Cape Town is not Singapore.
Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you need more information.
Best,
Team Marianne
