I loved that this hotel is a smart restaurant and bar with rooms, if you can take one with a terrace, mine had a view of Table Mountain. All very elegant and comfortable. The location is spot on, several other restaurants and bars nearby, only a minute evening stroll away, the centre is a 10 minute walk handy for daytime sightseeing, and the district, De Waterkant, charming. There is street parking where you only have to move your car by 10am, and next door is a handy shopping mall with cheap weekend parking.

From the location, views, ambience and service to the provision of interesting literature scattered around the very comfortable and generous sitting out areas, this is a truly beautiful and tranquil place. Johanna, the Manageress, sets very high standards of service and cleanliness, which she clearly achieves, with the help of her very friendly staff. De Zeven is a real gem!

De zeven is a beautiful guest lodge nestled between Stellenbosch and Franschoek. We chose it based on the reviews, close proximity to both towns and the mountain views. Everything was perfect!

The rooms are very comfortable. Ours had a view of the mountains and the pool. We enjoyed the shower which actually had a steam room as well. Comfortable beds and great bath products as well.

The lodge is small but has a small family feel. Staff are very friendly, a delicious breakfast is served each morning with coffee, juices, fresh pastries, and a few made to order selections. Everything we tried was superb.

The pool was relaxing each day after wine tasting. You can order a nice bottle of MCC or Rose Chenin Blanc from the bar or bring your own from one of the wineries and they gladly chill it down for you.

The only down side is there are limited lunch/dinner options at the lodge. This was not an issue because we planned accordingly. I believe they host a dinner a few days a week if you plan in advance. Uber is readily available in Africa but the lodge is a bit hard to find with only a small sign at the entrance. You need to text the driver with landmarks and provide the gate code in advance. We chose the higher quality drivers / cars and had better luck with getting picked up. Tip them well and they often will come get you after dinner.

The best wineries near the lodge were Oldenberg (ask for Siwe) and Delaire Graff. Reservations are suggested in advance. Dinner was spectacular at Tokara. It has the best valley sunset and a nice menu with delicious wines. You can request dinner reservations on dine plan which is like Open Table in the US. Some require a deposit.

Enjoy beautiful South African wine country. Hope to see you again De Zeven!

This is a truly magical little hotel with wonderful views of the distant mountains and surrounding vineyards. With only 11 rooms it is intimate and friendly and the staff are exceptional. The guest house has been designed by the owner Siobhan and has quite rightly featured in fashion shoots as it is beautiful. There is a small Infinity swimming pool, a sauna and treatment room and an honesty bar. We stayed here for a week in January the weather was fabulous, we went on some wonderful walks and there are some great Vineyards nearby for lunch. Close to Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl the location is perfect.

We had a room with probably the best view which is number 7 in the original farmhouse. It's a corner room with windows on two sides overlooking the valley and distant mountains. However in high Summer it is really hot and we didn't sleep brilliantly during our stay as we couldn't get the temperature right. It also doesn't have blackout curtains and faces east. So when the weather is hot it is probably worth paying a little extra for the modern pool rooms which are much larger and more shaded.

The biggest surprise for us was the food which was exceptional. We didn't realise that they were serving dinner when we booked but it was a lifesaver during the covid curfew. Adrian the chef did a marvelous job devising a four-course menu that changed every night. The food looked beautiful, tasted delicious and was light and inventive. We look forward to staying here again on our next visit.

De Zeven was an amazing place to stay during our visit to the Stellenbosch region. It looks even more lovely in person than the pictures - the interior design is bested only by the location and views. It was a conveniently quick drive away from some of the top wine estates in the area. The breakfast was also delightful. My only critique would be that there wasn't much of an introduction or welcome on arrival (other than a welcome drink) compared to other comparable hotels we stayed at in South Africa, but staff members overall were very friendly. You won't regret staying here!

We look back on 5 wonderful days in this professionally and at the same time warmly managed accommodation. The morning begins with a small but very high quality breakfast buffet, which includes a variety of fresh fruit in addition to very high quality meats and cheeses. The scenery with the unique view of the valley and the mountain landscape is breathtaking. The day can be spent in the numerous very nearby wineries, in the lively student town of Stellenbosch (about 10 minutes away by car) or by the pool in the middle of a lovingly landscaped garden. In the evening, there is the possibility to order an inexpensive cheese platter and to fall back on various wines of the house. The prices here are very fair. We were also impressed by the beautiful room and the very kind staff. If you are looking for a place to dream, relax and atmosphere and at the same time do not want to do without a certain comfort, this is exactly the right place. We look forward to visiting this retreat again soon.

We stayed at De Zeven for 2 nights for a wedding at nearby Zorvliet. The guest house is beautiful with the most wonderful views across the vineyards and mountains. The rooms are all lovely chose from those on the lower floors for a veranda or upper floors for slightly enhanced views. Personally I liked the veranda room I had.

The room was huge with a seating area and lovely bathroom with a tub, beautifully decorated. The indoor / outdoor seating area with the fire was just gorgeous with more fantastic views. We also made use of the sauna (with a viewing window of the mountains) and jumped into the somewhat cool pool afterwards (it was coming into winter but nice nevertheless).

The service was absolutely lovely, everyone was so friendly and relaxed. The breakfast was delicious with a choice of hot options. Also an honesty bar was a nice touch for the glass or bottle of wine in the early evening.

Would really recommend staying here.

We spent nearly a week enjoying the spectacular views and unbelievable company that De Zeven offers. When looking for a place to celebrate my 40th birthday I knew we were onto a winner once we saw the pictures online… but in truth the pictures just didn’t do De Zeven justice, it was beyond our wildest expectations. From the first welcome the staff were friendly, caring and engaging. The breakfast was delicious, their own wine moreish, the views spectacular, the location was the perfect balance of secluded and close to town.
But it is the people (and cat) that make the place feel like home. Nothing was a bother, every question was answered and we are ever so grateful for you superb hospitality. It goes without saying that the basics were covered, impeccably clean, beds extremely comfortable, warm and cared for.
Quite simply the finest hotel we have ever stayed in.
Keep up the good work you are an absolute gem in the Stellenbosch landscape. We will return as we didn’t want to leave.
Thank you

Chris and Tracy

This place is absolutely amazing – it's where we felt at home even though we were thousands of miles away. The feeling of serenity was accompanied by absolute comfort provided by the hotel facilities. The location is fantastic, the team is great, the breakfasts are delicious, the rooms are amazing, and there's a nice selection of wines. Truly one of the best places we've ever visited, and we definitely want to return soon. Even absence of gym/fitness is not decreasing my score for this place as you can easily compensate by hiking, running and cycling around beautiful natural reserves around.

A very calm and beautiful place. Decoration with so much love for the details from the front desk until the very last corner of the rooms. The garden with the infinity pool was full of flowers and enough sunbeds to chil next to it. The pool itself could use a little bit more care.
Our room was huge with a walking rainshower i have never seen before so big.
Breakfast with a great view, like every spot at the lodge. Various egg meals you can choose from and a small, but good plate served with bread and fruits and a small selection of meet and chees.

Definitively would come back!
