Clouds Wine & Guest Estate

Clouds Wine & Guest Estate

Two nights in this vineyard in November 2024 with spouse. The view was magnificent, but our villa was outdated and pretty cold as it was raining almost all the time. As we were about to proceed to our villa, we wanted to asl about a possibility for late check-out. The lady just wanted to leave and not listen to us, so we went to talk to other personnel at the reception. We are used to more attentive service in other five star hotels. Furthermore, service in the restaurant was rather slow.

Had the last 2 nights here on a whirlwind trip to the Cape Town area. Set up in the mountains 10/15 outside Stellenbosch, Clouds is a lovely peaceful estate with fabulous panoramic views. We had a very comfortable room to the side of the property allowing to see outside on the decking taking in the scenery. Lovely staff to talk to and really good food. We were winding down so chose to eat in the restaurant both nights and the food was that good I question why so many seem so keen to rush next door to the De Graff and miss out on what is probably a far more affordable evening. Also during our stay had a bottle of each of Clouds Chenin and Sauvignon Blanc and a Shiraz with our beef fillet, all high quality. We can only recommend a stay.If you do have a walk across the road to Tokara and Thelema wine estates, both lovely but Thelema was probably in the top 3 of estates we visited whilst on holiday.

I have suggested in the summary that the hotel is in the luxurious category to stay in, and in terms of a stay it is, but the price range is a lot lower than others in the area.
I have suggested the hotel

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon for 2 nights and had the best time.

When you arrive, you are greeted by the loveliest staff members who provide you with a complimentary drink and check you in with no hassle at all. Our room was absolutely beautiful, we had an amazing view and a free bottle of wine to enjoy on our balcony!

The pool area was lovely, comfortable sun loungers and there was sun cream and cold water available at all times. The breakfast was included in our booking and this was fantastic, there was a buffet with choices of yoghurts, fruit, croissants etc and you also had the choice of different cooked breakfasts. I particularly enjoyed the French toast. We also tried the wine tasting and had dinner here twice - the food was amazing.

Our stay was perfect, staff were so helpful and friendly and the setting was absolutely stunning - couldn't ask for a better place to stay on your honeymoon!

This little gem has probably the best views in the winelands, situated on the slopes of the Banhoek valley with spectacular views on the surrounding mountains, scenic all day long starting with a beautiful sunrise. A great location with top wineries and restaurants in the vicinity, short drive to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. The interiors are stylish and done with taste, with local artists and fabrics creating a design blending hospitality with style and finesse. And so is the service, very personal and efficient, Marika was the perfect host and her fellow staff equally professional. I thought the food was of good quality, tasty (had an exceptional mushroom risotto) and well presented, especially the breakfast, try the Mediterranean Sandwich and the Danish pastries. Overall a most enjoyable stay in a well run hotel, that I would certainly recommend to visitors wishing to have something special for their trip to the Cape winelands

Clouds is a lovely small hotel situated in the hills above Stellenbosch with spectacular panoramic views. We stayed in room 2, an extremely comfortable room on the upper level, with spectacular views of the mountains and valleys while overlooking the pool. The hotel is located next door to Delaire Graff, and the staff are happy to transport you there in their golf cart. Across the street is Tokara, another fabulous winery and restaurant. The staff was most accommodating including assisting us with making dinner reservations in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. For breakfast they offer a small buffet of primarily yogurt and fruit and additionally you can order hot entrees cooked to order.

This is a lovely small hotel. Stay here at a fraction of the price of Delaire and get the same great location and views! I highly recommend staying at his hotel for a visit to the Cape Town winelands.

We stayed at Clouds for 3 nights for my husbands birthday last week in one of their villas. Clouds has a perfect location between 2 of the most impressive wine estates in Stellenbosch and the views from all parts of the property were breathtaking.

The villa was a few minutes walk from the main property with a small double bedroom (and a very hard bed) a bathroom with toilet, double sink, wet room style shower and bathtub and a large kitchen, lounge, dining room with patio doors leading out to your own deck area with seating. Air con worked well throughout the villa and it was clean and relatively modern. We didn't use the TV but were advised it could be connected to our own Netflix account etc.

This is effectively a small wine farm and the service standards aren't really what you expect from a 5* hotel.
- I had contacted the hotel prior to our arrivals to get details of a driver service we could use to get from Cape Town to Stellenbosch. Their recommendation arrived in a pretty beaten up car (with the wingmirror held on by tape) which came to collect us, followed by advice to 'just use uber' when in Stellenbosch. Not what I had been offered in previous 5* wine estates.
- The lunch/dinner menu is small and the same every day so you need to make plans to eat elsewhere unless you like the repetition. We ordered some of the light bites to our room on the firt evening to enjoy with our wine and a lot of what was listed on the platters wasnt included.
- The staff are very nervous and unsure of themselves. The wine tasting felt like the lady was reciting memorized notes from a text book and my husband had to recue our bottle of wine at dinner as the waitress broke the cork as she didnt seem to know how to use the corkscrew.

Overall a great location and good size villas to use as a base to explore Stellenbosch... just dont expect 5* hotel service.

We loved the night we spent here, and many thanks to the staff for the upgrade for my birthday. Wish we could have stayed many more nights and enjoyed it. The food was wonderful and so easy to enjoy dinner at Delaire Graaf next door (taken over on the golf cart). Perfect pool and sensational views. Room was big, modern, and so comfortable. Also felt like lovely extras had been thought of, like snacks and complimentary wine on arrival AND in the room!

Beautiful accommodation with the most amazing views from every room.
A small boutique estate where we ate the grapes from the vines, watched them being pressed and hopefully taste by next year !
Food was superb and staff couldn’t do enough for us. Whether you want to enjoy wine tasting in the region or just relax by the pool this place is perfect.
Couldn’t fault anything

We stayed in Room 3 and have a wonderful stay. The views were incredible throughout the property. Special thanks to Aimee and Leticha for being so friendly and accommodating, as well as to the kitchen staff for meeting my gluten free needs. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. My only suggestion for improvement would be that all restaurant staff wear masks whilst serving.
Nevertheless, thank you for a wonderful stay!

Our stay at Clouds Estae was truly exceptional. A very warm welcome from the staff, that made us instantly feeling back home again.
The location and the view is something special, you got one, if not the best spot to watch the Simonshill in its best colors during our evenings sundowners. Spectacular colors and amazing formations of clouds surrounding this hill.
The location is perfect, the Tokara Restaurant within walking distance and when you have dinner or lunch at Delaire Graaf you got a lift with the golf cart.

If you're looking for a nice boutique hotel near Stellenbosch, Clouds Estate should be your first choice for a memorable stay.

This hotel is very nice and you do feel secure at this place. The service is very friendly and focused. The room was very spacious and quiet.

We had 4 nights at this place and actually the menu didn’t change during our stay, so if you stay 4 days or longer, I can strongly recommend the two excellent restaurants close to the Clouds Estate, “Tokara” and “Delaire Graff Restaurant” (latter has also the Indochine Restaurant, which we didn’t have time for). You do need to book in advance for both places.

The Clouds Estate has a very nice pool area, although not necessarily sun beds for all guests.
