The wine estate has a long history dating back to 1793. Early family custodians of the land knew of the rich water source here and the potential to produce bountiful and highly sort-after harvests Situated in the world-famous Cape Winelands region of Stellenbosch, the farm is 200 hectares with 62 ha under vines. If Knorhoek Valley has captured your senses – from the Simonsberg that creates a natural amphitheatre behind the estate to the sounds of country life – the it remains for us to give you a taste of the terroir with our range of Knorhoek wines as well as the Nymysto range. Either spend a lazy afternoon tasting through all the wines or chose to refresh with the white wine or indulge with the reds If you’ve chosen one of Knorhoek’s two luxury self-catering cottages, pad through barefoot to a well-appointed kitchen and prepare your first coffee of the day. Relax on the stoep and watch the light. Your low-walled garden leads directly into the farm where vineyards, depending on the season, will either be heavy with bunches of ripe grapes ready for the harvest or perhaps the vines are turning russet to signal autumn. If you’re staying in one of our eight en suite bedrooms, prepare for one of our farmhouse breakfasts that will have you fuelled and ready for an active day either exploring the 200-ha farm or Stellenbosch and surrounds. Then again, you might simply pick up your book or camera and laze about the lawns under ancient oaks and avenues of Poplar trees planted by the families who lived and worked here over the centuries. Enjoy lunch while your children are free to play safely. The restaurant is knowns for it’s farm-to-table fresh and delicious dishes. But there is also ample space to spread out on Knorhoek Wine Estate and for couples to taste delicious estate wines and enjoy lunch around the pool or picnic under the canopy of trees Breakfast,Brunch and Lunch are served at Knorhoek Restaurant from Wednesday – Sunday from 10 am to 4pm. Knorhoek and environs offer numerous outdoor activities: Tennis Landscaped rock pool Vineyard walks Bird watching Hiking trails Meals and Wine experience: Wine tasting - Wednesday to Sunday from 10 am - 4 pm Breakfast, Brunch and Lunches at Knorhoek Restaurant - Wednesday - Sunday from 10 am - 4pm Pre-book to avoid disappointment Conference facilities available Wedding venue available Children from all ages are welcome We do have a baby crib and high chair available for free, please pre – book Please enquire about child rates

I did not realise that both Quoin Rock and Knorhoek has the same owner, which makes it very convenient to stay over after having dinner at Gatė. We stayed in the honeymoon suite and was very happy with the room and service. Breakfast was included in the price which was lovely. Would recommend

We live in Cape Town and every now and then we look for new places to stay to recharge that is not to far to travel. Knorhoek in 45 minutes form the center of Cape Town outside the historical town of Stellenbosch. We had a lovely room in the attic of the main house that consisted of a king size bed, 2 single beds and an bathroom. The room was more that ample for 2 adults and our 4year old - plenty of place to play

They serve a wonderful breakfast and on both evenings we enjoyed dinner in the dining room. The 3 course meals were fantastic and great value. What was so fantastic was that they went the extra mile to accommodate us in preparing food for our 4 year old. I noticed that this was the some for some overseas visitors that also had kids with them.

There is a nice lounge area to read in with and honesty bar with a great selection of wine from the farm. There is also wine tasting on the premises. If you are a walker then this is place for you as you can walk for miles in this peaceful valley. I took my mountain bike as there are a great number of trails that you can do. You can also hire a bike from one of the nearby trails.

Highly recommended place that is quiet is it only accommodates a few people at a time. A great place to unwind

Good morning C Thank you so much for writing your most complimentary review. I have shown it to all the parties concerned and they are thrilled. I find it very educational to read what clients highlight after a stay with us, what they enjoy, what they find special and what they have done. Thank you for the comprehensive overview of what is also recommended when staying at Knohoek. Sincerely Carol

Mixed feeling about this place. The wedding venue was superb and the staff at Towerbosch Restaurant had great attention to detail. The accommodation was less attractive. The room was in need of updating and decorating. The bed was comfortable but the divan on which the mattress rested needed cleaning. One of the electrical appliances had bare wires. This room has no air conditioning only a small desk fan. We chose room four as the upstairs rooms did not appear to have a shower only a bath. However, the shower was stained by dripping water, had an inconsistent temperature and the door did not shut properly. The attitude of the staff varied from being sociable to one person who, on our last breakfast, couldn’t be bothered and had a very off-hand “get it yourself” manner.

This is all a great pity because Knorhoek could be so much better if it followed the approach of its wedding venue staff and paid a bit more attention to the detail and its customer service. Overall, it’s a convenient place if you are staying for a night after a wedding but not for any longer.

Dear Sandyknees I must confess I was rather surprised at your review, but shall consider your criticism as positive and have a serious discussion with the staff - both housekeeping and front of house. We have always been complimented on the friendliness of the staff and comfort of the rooms. They were redecorated about 3 years ago. We do not have aircon in the patio rooms as they are cool in summer and there is underfloor heating in winter. If possible, I would like to know exactly when you stayed with us in order to discuss this with the responsible staff member. I am really sorry that your guesthouse experience was so unpleasant - we want our guests to be satisfied. Sincerely Carol

I had a nightmare experience at the knorhoek unfortunately. Firstly the lady at reception was brash and not very client friendly and seemed impatient with us really. When we arrived it seemed our cottage was not properly prepared and the cot for our baby was dirty and seemed old.

Now the shocker, our room while it looked ok had a bad mouldy smell and after spending a hour or 2 resulted in my baby daughter getting a rash and myself developing a headache and feeling really sick with a closed chest.

I then rather took my daughter home and had to come back later, but the smell was even worse so I decided to call the on duty manager. I tried for almost an hour but no-one picked up, then i walked to reception and used the emergency phone but again on-one picked up. There also happened to be a wedding with loud music happening at the same time so i managed to get hold of the events co-ordinator who was very helpful and contacted the owner who was at a wedding at the time. The owner eventually showed up but didn't really help or even arrange for a transfer to another hotel, they left that up to me. I wasn't really that upset because i just wanted to get home, but then when they refunded my deposit and it took a few days to clear i had, had enough.

Knorhoek is a nice place, in beautiful surrounds and nice facilities but the service can be improved and they should make sure their rooms are sorted and mould and dust free.

Good morning JS On Saturday night, when I asked your wife that I meet with you in the cottage lounge and not the bedroom, I hope this professional and respectful request was not interpreted as being poor service. Upon entering the cottage there was no musty or mouldy smell, but I respect your opinion. I understood that a booking had already been made at a hotel for you, and promised I would do a full refund the following morning. This was done at 8h43 on Sunday morning. Copies of the transaction slips were scanned and sent via e-mail - you repeatedly called and e-mailed that this had not been done. Transactions between banks is entirely beyond any client's control. The camping cot, given free of charge, is not old, I found that the one side had not been clicked in properly. The only explanation for the so -called smell is that you had closed all the windows and turned on the airconditioner. It had been serviced the week before, and as with car aircon, the first activation gives off a watery odour. I found no mould in the entire unit. I am sorry your daughter suffered an allergic reaction, but this could be ascribed to other circumstances as well. Wishing you and your family a happy Festive season sincerely Carol

We stayed in the 'honeymoon suite' which was supposed to be the best room. We were a bit disappointed with the room as it lacked a level of care and attention to detail. For example, a hole in the wall had been fixed with a filler but had not been painted so there was a big white patch on the wall, the shower screen was faulty so didnt close properly and there was a solid build up of dirt on the floor next to the shower.
Filter coffee and a cafetiere were provided in the room and the toiletries that were provided were very nice.
We experienced some difficulties with dinner in the evening. The staff were not aware of what was being offered to the guests e.g. 2 or 3 courses which left us in limbo as to whether we needed to drive into town for dinner or not. The staff at dinner was a lovely lady (Liesel) and the chef who we have to give huge credit to. Liesel was a fantastic waitress who did everything she could to make our evening as good as possible.
The food was excellent. The fillet beef and accompanying sauce was exquisite and the elderflower and champagne jelly was beautiful.
The disappointing thing with Knorhoek is that it could be fantastic. A bit more care and attention (some rennovation in places) and more staff to be available and provide a more personable service would significantly improve this place as the views and location are very nice.

Dear Rob Thank you for your honest review and we'll definitely pay heed to your suggestions. The hole in the wall remains a problem as we are fully booked and have to choose between the unsightly filler and the room reeking of paint - we have chosen the former. (Guests depart at 11h00 and the next arrive any time after 2pm.) The faulty shower door is unforgivable. I have given your compliments to Liesel and we are very proud of her. We trust we'll be able to make up for this discomfort when you visit us again. Sincerely Carol

We spent 2 nights at this lovely B+B and absolutely adored it. We opted for half board with breakfast and dinner on one of the night and really enjoyed our time hanging out in the living room just the two of us (we were the only guests there that night) by the fireplace and playing with Merlot (the owner's Bull terrier). The room is more than meet our expectation. It was clean and nicely decorated. I would definitely go back and stay longer to explore Stellenbosch the next time.

On 6 / 7 April 2011 we spent 2 days at Knorhoek and, if a bit of cultured relaxation prior to the long return home journey was a priority, one couldn't have picked a more appropriate setting. We really enjoyed every minute of our stay and were thoroughly impressed with the quality of the facilities and the natural setting amongst the vinyards. A special 'Thank You' to Lisa for her wonderful and attentive cooking skills. An excellent range of wines rounded off our great impressions. The 'highlight' of our 3 week trip.

Knorhoek has great rooms, they look lovely, bathrooms are a bit old though. The location is a bit boring and there is not much going on. We haven't seen much staff around. There is great potential, but we did not see it. Think you can find better accomodation around Stellenbosch.

After a exiting trip of two weeks with excellant accomodation in beatiful South Africa we arrived at a very nice wine estate callef Knorhoek. The travel agent booked this B &B. The welcome was hoirible. No welcome drink or pleasant hello. It looked like a Ministry with civil servants from 9 till 5 pm. "After 5 p.m." we are closed. Late guests will arrive at the first SA do it yourself B&B. This is beyond any expectations when it comes to hospitality business.
However this is just a starter. Next annnouncement: our restaurant is closed on Saturday and Sunday? You read it well.
Closed......Religion? Union agreement?..we do not know. Never seen or noticed this business model in my 45 years career in hotel business. There is also good news:
The beds are o.k.

Dear Mr Krijger Thank you for your feedback, we always appreciate criticism, both positive and negative. However, we would like to point out the following aspects regarding our Guesthouse. - it is the responsibility of the Booking agent to inform their clients of each destinations' daily operation. The booking agent is also very well aware of the fact that the Guesthouse serves dinner only Monday to Friday nights. The Restaurant on the premises is only open for lunch Wednesdays to Sundays - all this information should be conveyed by the booking agent and all this information is also clearly stated on our website. -we apologise if you did not have a pleasant welcome - as a 3star guesthouse we do not serve welcome drinks on arrival, but there is a coffee/tea station in your room -upon arrival at 12h50 our staff offered to assist you with dinner reservations, shuttle arrangements etc which you declined -we noticed from our security cameras that our staff arrived at 07h15 and left at 17h15 -reception not open 24hours but always an after hours number posted on the front door -the Guesthouse has operated in this manner for the past 22 years and therefore we have been able to keep the room rates as low as it is. Hopefully this explains our business model - and apologies again if there was any misunderstanding. thank you

Our last stop of the holiday, 4 days of winding down before flying home and just the place for a wind down, so quiet ,chilled and relaxing as well as amazing scenery, surrounded by vineyards and mountains! Stayed in the Honeymoon suite on the top floor with view across to the Manor House and backdrop of mountains. Lisel is an amazing cook , comes in in the afternoon prepares the evening dinner as well as all the bread etc for next days breakfast, her puddings are to die for!!! There is a tab system whereas you write all you have from the fridges , wine counter etc during the course of your stay. Wonderful place to walk around and has its own winery and tasting sessions. There is a pool in the garden of the main Manor that you can use or just relax in the garden area around it. We would definitely go back here to finish our holiday again!!
