Truly outstanding service, very comfortable air conditioned rooms and excellent breakfast. Amongst many other kindnesses, they let us stay by the pool the whole afternoon waiting for the transfer to the airport (BEWARE : lots of roadworks and very long waits at the moment, we almost missed our flight) and even to have a shower (summer there is very hot) before leaving. You feel you are welcomed into a private home, with lots of family history memorabilia and explanations around. Stellenbosch is a bigger town (but not by too much) than Franschhoek so there is much more to see, including a lot of picturesque old buildings.

The Villa is very well situated to explore Stellenbosch being only a few minutes walk from the town centre and University yet on a quiet residential street. The two houses which comprise Caledon Villa are beautiful turn-of-the-last-century buildings immaculately maintained. The gardens are equally lovely, quiet with a good sized swimming pool and sunbeds. The rooms are full of character and have a well-stocked mini-bar at ridiculously low prices! Breakfast offers a good hot or cold selection to suit most tastes. Staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Beyond being a great guest house the Villa offers a fascinating insight into the Krige family in South Africa in the context of more than two hundred years of history covering the Great Trek and the Boer War. Highly recommended.

From the moment we arrived until we left, we were warmly welcomed by the Wonderful caring staff who could not do enough for us. They gave us excellent advice about where to go and even let us stay to watch the rugby world cup!!! The Guest house is enchanting, filled with interesting and beautiful things. Gorgeous garden and pool. Lovely, comfortable room and most delicious breakfast. I highly recommend this Guest House which is also in very close proximity to the center of Stellenbosch.

Attended a conference at Stellenbosch University, which is at walking distance from Caledon Villa. We had the Olive room, extremely spacious and clean. The villa has lots of rooms to explore and a lovely outdoor space with pool and roof garden. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, will definitely come again!

Attending a conference at Stellenbosch University, which is a leisurely seven minutes on foot, I staid three nights at the Caledon Villa, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The historic house is beautifully preserved, as are the rooms. There is a nice garden and a sizeable pool, which on account of frigid temperatures in June, I dipped into only briefly. The breakfast is delicious and the hosts couldn’t be friendlier.

Our room was a ground floor suite that consisted of a voluminous bedroom-sitting room complete with fireplace and loads of space to spread out, a little kitchen area, open but quite separate, and a tiny second bedroom which would work well for a single young person accompanying two adults. Every detail of Villa Caledon is interesting. The art, furniture, and library are the accumulation of generations and the current owner, Johan Krige is an expert collector, curator, and explicator. Staff are cordial but informal, breakfast is cooked-to-order...in short everything is special. Finally, the location is a short walk to the town centre but you can also park there.
