The mattresses were so bad we were sleeping on the wooden bed base. The families that are living there with their kids were running up and down the passages all day starting from 05:30 in the morning to 10:30pm on the wooden floors. When we asked them to be considerate, they told us we must find somewhere else to stay if we don't like it. The one family guy suffers from alcohol abuse and the fights between them were just not something you would enjoy..The owners did nothing about them. The cooking facilities were also bad, the gas stoves don't work or just barely produce a flame, it turns out that they deliberately stifled the gas. As for friendly service, the owners Sharon and George interfere with the guests and peoples private conversations. Several other people also complained that their fun was spoiled by the uni-conversations from both of them. The place advertised on their website looks pretty decent but the reality is far from it, i would not recommend this place to anyone. The owners would rather drink their profits then upgrade the premises. The WIFI also didn't work in the rooms and was very slow, couldn't make a WhatsApp call properly I did find a really great place afterwards though, called "DIE LAAER" Backpackers in 3 Simonsberg street Stellenbosch. +27722996754 This place turned out great with really awesome high quality beds, great facilities including Free WIFI, Free Laundry, TV, Cooking Facilities, 24/7 security, off street enclosed parking and more.. for a better rate then Stumble inn.. I woke up in the mornings, i didn't get woken up. And its just up the road from town in a forestry area and surrounded by large blue gum trees..

If you look for a cheap and centrally located place to stay in Stellenbosch, this is the place. If you look for quietness, better to pass your way. The staff is nice and friendly, the vibe is young and jolly... Comfortable double room and clean shared facilities.

There were two of us in a room and only one of us was allowed a key. Since we didn't travel together, I constantly had to ask for a key from the front desk upon my return to the room. It wouldn't have been a problem if a) they were there regularly - many times I had to wait a long time to find someone and b) if they didn't try to tell me I had not returned the key and they didn't have one. I was blamed for losing a key I never received in the first place. The room was satisfactory although the lock on the door seemed very easy to pick - it was very loose. Food items stored in the fridge consistently disappeared so don't bother storing your food there - only buy what you need. The communal areas (both outside and inside) is quite large and accommodating. It is a few blocks from true downtown and easy access.

Dorm was fine (we were in 6 bed one), and the hostel's shared areas were nice - lots of sofas for lounging. But I put three stars as someone had tried to get into our dorm with another key (they got it jammed in the keyhole, and had to leave it there). To be fair, George fixed the lock fast, and there were small lockers in our dorm room for valuables, as long as you had a padlock. The lodge is pretty central, although the short-cut through the park to the town is not advisable (someone was stabbed when we were there).

I love my stay at Stumble Inn! George and Sharon are so nice and we had some good chat at the bar in the hostel. They also gave us good advice on what to do and where to go. The hostel itself is conveniently located. One thing I don't enjoy very much is that the 7-bed dorm is too small and there's not enough power point in the room.

I've stayed at Stumble Inn before and it had been looking a bit run down for some time, but I was really impressed during my recent visit. The place has been renovated and looks MUCH better than before, thanks to the new owners. The kitchen is better, the rooms are better (even the bedding is better!) and there is security at night watching over the parking area. As always though, the bar is lively and fun (so it's probably better to request the other house if you want to ensure a quiet stay).

Nice place with George and Sharon, the amazing owners! Clean place, a little pooltable and a bar. Very close to the city center (10 minute walk), so would definitely recommend when visiting Stellenbosch.

Amazing backpackers in the heart of Stellenbosch with great restaurants and bars just a short walk away. George and Sharon are incredible and will help you out anyway they can. Stellenbosch also has a great nightlife thanks to the university. Be sure to stopover in Stellies for a few days and be sure to stay at Stumble for a great party.

I have been here for a few days and had here a very nice time. The staff is friendly and helpful, the showers and bathrooms are neat and there is a nice atmosphere. This is what a hostel should be, low budget and nice.
