Spent a wonderful weekend on this amazing wine estate.

Arrived really late due to a delayed flight - received warmly by the reception staff who had all documentation ready for the most speedy check in we have had.

Rooms are really generous is size, housekeeping keep them spotless, food on the estate is well prepared and presented - particularly loved the setting at Sansibar.

The staff are exceptional - always eager to please with recommendations and a pleasant attitude.

Well done Asara team keep up the wonderful work.

Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We came for wine tasting only. What a beautiful setting. Stunning driveway with vine fields alongside and a line of oak trees and rose bushes. Plenty of parking and well laid out around a separate courtyard, with the hotel and reception on two sides, and the third side with a cafetaria and shop, then looking out over the fields to the foothills beyond. Then to the wine tasting location. Well laid out and the semelier was knowledgeable and helpful - we bought wine to take away with us. Not a label/vineyard I knew but their range (of what we tasted, red and white) was excellent and moderately priced. Highly recommended.

We went here for breakfast to find that the restaurant really caters mainly for hotel guests and so there is no a la carte, only buffet which we really didn’t want. So, instead, we went to the deli which has wonderful views of the mountains but is fairly limited in options. The food we had was okay but the cappuccino was R45 for a small cup and not much foam which is the most expensive we’ve had in this area. In fact, the coffee cost more than the food.

But the service was very good although the waiter did go missing for quite long periods and, when I went inside to pay the account, I saw a couple of flies walking over uncovered food which, in my view, is not 5-star.

Dear biztripJoburg, Thank you for the visit to our Deli and feedback, we're happy to hear that you enjoyed the views and that the service was very good. FYI - we do most definitely welcome visitors to our breakfast buffet, and cater to them exactly as we do for our hotel guests. While we don't offer a separate a la carte option at breakfast, our breakfast buffet does include a sumptuous hot breakfast menu. Kind regards, Asara Hotel Management

The hotel and winery are really beautiful and the staff is very attentive. We were treated very well by everyone and they were able to provide everything that we needed. However we think that, for the price that we paid, we expected more, considering that this is a region with lots of nice hotels, some with better prices. The restaurant is good, but nothing exceptional. /

Dear andreiamtsaraujo, Many thanks for the visit to Asara and feedback, we're happy to hear that you enjoyed the beauty of the hotel and winery, and that you were nicely looked after (as we would expect). As far as price is concerned: our pricing naturally reflects the fact that Asara is a luxury hotel in one of the best locations in the Cape Winelands, but we are also very aware of how important it is to offer value for money, and we believe that we are highly competitive price-wise with other Stellenbosch hotels in our category. Thank you and kind regards, Asara Hotel Management

We had family visit us and we thought Asara would be a lovely option as the views and farm are breathtakingly beautiful. We tried to book online no one got back to us.(We should have taken the hint) After two days we called them they said they had availability. Only to be very disappointed with a shocking salad which I’m still not sure how one could do so badly? Not worth the drive. The R140 they charged for some ill chopped carrots, onions and raw peppers and plain tastic rice? Absolutely no seasoning or dressing at all. We sent back full plates no one even asked us about the food. Please whatever you do, don’t dare ask for a gluten free option this is not catered for at all. Very very poor. It’s a pity as we loved the wine but will no longer be purchasing any Asara wine as it is affiliated with such a poor dining experience.

Dear Katia, We are sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at Asara and want to apologize to you and your visiting family. This is not typical for us and we obviously would love a second chance. Should you be willing to re-consider, please speak to us: our executive head chef Gerard van Staden would like to personally prepare you an Asara bowl again. With the combination of fresh ingredients and tasty dressing the Asara bowl so far has been a huge hit with our guests. In the meantime we are taking your feedback to heart and are looking into all issues and concerns you raised. Based on your experience we are scrutinizing our booking process, communication, service and menu descriptions as we are determined to make all our guests happy guests. As far as gluten free is concerned, our executive head chef assures you that we do not use flour in any of our salads, dressings or sauces. Everything we use to prepare healthy, tasty and natural flavored dishes is either an emulsion or reduction. Katia, thank you for your feedback. It helps us in constantly improving our offer and service. Wishing you and your family a relaxed festive season and a healthy and happy 2021. Warm regards from the team of ASARA,

Even at short notice it was possible to enjoy a late lunch after 3 pm. The burger together with a local Asara red wine made us to enjoy a late lunch. Don‘t forget to taste the various gins. And the starters.

We visited Asara on Sunday and were so let down, the view is amazing but unfortunately that is where it ends, the food is pricey which would be acceptable if it was good, but it was not, some was so u edible we opened to take home but we’re advised that we were not allowed to take away. We then 3 times tried to order drinks but after an hour and a poor meal the drinks had still not arrived so we paid the bill which included a tip. The waitress did not provide any service and we were not even offered salt and pepper, perhaps the tip should be at the discretion of the patron and dependent on the service ?

One of the most relaxing hotels we've every stayed at. Just outside Stellenbosch in its own grounds, the Asara is a real oasis. The views of the distant mountains are absolutely stunning and the hotel, although technically a working farm, is incredibly peaceful.

We really liked: well equipped and spacious bedroom, nice shower, spacious & comfortable balcony with an incredible view (see the photo!), The restaurants & bar are comfortable, really nice food (if a somewhat limited menu) & the staff are really helpful and friendly. They booked a car to take us into Franschooek for the wine tram, and pick us up later. I would definitely recommend this as you wouldn't be able to drive after a day's wine tasting!

Excellent hotel. 100% recommend it.

We returned to Asara after a 6 year absence. The setting is still as stunning as we remember. We had booked the wine and dine option which was great value, on arrival we enjoyed a massage and by a quirk of fate, we stayed in the same room as 6 years ago, the complimentary wine in our room was opened immediately…
Our evening meal was very enjoyable..
Before we continued our travels the following day we had time to lie by the pool and we topped up on some wine from their wine shop.
There are many wine estates around Stellenbosch, Asara is maybe not as well known but definitely worth a visit, we returned as we had fond memories after our first visit in 2017, the estate is very relaxing with stunning views. Finally, their wine is superb .

I live in Stellenbosch, thus familiar with a lot of restaurants. I met a local friend for coffee. The Deli is still closed, therefore we had coffee on the restaurant verandah with one of the most beautiful views in Stellenbosch. Great was our surprise when the bill arrived at R45 per capuccino! Come on Asara, you need the locals, why are you charging way over the odds for a coffee which is nowhere near as good as our local roasteries!!! Hope you’ll address urgently
