Van der Stel Manor is widely celebrated for its elegant charm and outstanding amenities, including spacious rooms and a serene pool set in a picturesque garden. Guests have lauded the hotel's immaculate cleanliness and the warm, personalized service that creates a home-like atmosphere.
While some have raised concerns about the value, citing higher costs and outdated features, many find the location ideal, nestled near mountain trails and the city center for both tranquility and convenience.

Detailed Reviews
Ilzebet was a wonderful host to make us welcome throughout our stay. The modern and stylish guest house, located in a lovely neighborhood, provides all the traveller could hope for: Clean and comfy rooms with fine amenities, a lovely pool area to relax and a quite as lovely rooftop garden area to admire the wonderful surroundings especially at sunset. Highlight of our stay was the superb breakfast served daily - Ilzebet's scones are "to die for"! The guest house is located approx. 20 mins. walk from the city centre, which during day time is fine to walk. At night it is recommended to use taxi service (Uber or Bolt), which works perfectly.

Unfortunately, we only could stay one night but we enjoyed everything from the personal welcome to the manicured garden, the clean pool, the a la carte breakfast with Cappuccinos, freshly baked scones (whipped cream and all) the home-made jams, the selection of warm breads, the fresh Juices the fruit-salad with yogurt and the obligatory eggs and bacon with sausages and mushrooms... just delectable! All served with a big smile! (behind the face masks 😊)
The Rooms are very clean, modern and with all amenities you would expect from a classy 4-star manor.
The location is perfect, in a quiet side street but still very close to all the restaurants and wine bars. (5 min with a car)
We can highly recommend this small Hotel for anybody who still want the personal touch while staying away from home, A special thanx to Ilzebet who made us feel so welcome.!

Van der Stel Manor is set in a very quiet and upmarket part of Stellenbosch in a street lined with Jacaranda trees. The house is tastefully and comfortably furnished and decorated and has a nice garden and pool. Everything was immaculately clean and parking is behind gates. Staff and owners were friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. Breakfast outside was excellent with plenty of food especially if you ate one of the lovely (but huge) homemade scones.
The centre of Stellenbosch is a pleasant 1.7 mile walk but it was suggested we needed a taxi or to drive for dinner at night, which may be considered a drawback. However John (the owner) recommended we try the 5 star Lanzerac vineyard/hotel which is a well lit, safe, three quarters of a mile walk and is a fantastic and very reasonable dinner venue. We went two nights running, great wine and food.
We will definitely return to Van Der Stel Manor, loved our stay.

10/10 fantastic stay! My husband and I stayed the night on our honeymoon and had an excellent welcome with balloons and a bottle of bubbles on arrival. Our room was spacious, clean and included all the essentials for a comfortable stay. Had we stayed longer we would have used the roof top terrace more which did have a beautiful sunset view. Breakfast was cooked beautifully with a full hot breakfast, croissants, toast and muesli being served. Parking was easy with gated access and the manor is only 10 minutes from the main centre. Thank you for a memorable stay!

We absolutely LOVED Van Der Stell Manor! The room we were assigned was spacious with two comfortable chairs and an additional space with a small fridge, and coffee, tea, hot chocolate station. The bathroom had two sinks with a deep bathtub and separate shower.
The breakfast was delicious and filling, especially the scones, all served on lovely china. Walking in downstairs we were enveloped by gorgeous, inviting decor which matched the Cape Dutch architecture of the exterior.
We were celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary and they went the extra mile to celebrate with us. We will be back soon. I would give this B & B a 10 out of 10. They are the full package, clean, friendly staff and owner, etc. and only 7 minutes from our favorite wine/olive oil estate.

Since the new management took over, it isn’t anymore what it was for many years. Extremely sad! The breakfast is squeezed in a small corner, is poor of variety, so we skipped it and went out. We will definitely go somewhere else next year.

We loved our stay in Van der Stel Manor. It was a great start to our South Africa round trip.
Rickus and the team are offering a great service and will always help you with recommendations and whatever else you might wish for or where you need assistance.
Breakfast was very good.
The Guesthouse is located in a residential, upscale neighbourhood where it is secure to walk.
A drive to Downtown Stellenbosch will take you approx. 10 minutes by car.

Spent a wonderful night at this classy hotel in early February. We were given room 7 which is on the ground floor in the new section. Room was excellent and ticked all boxes. Staff were friendly and helpful especially JJ and Proud who couldn’t do enough to make our stay enjoyable.
Breakfast was a great mix of hot and cold and was taken outside in a lovely courtyard area.
Highly recommended.

We stayed in this guest house after our wedding to rest and recharge after a lot of partying! We stayed for one night and it was a lovely stay. The staff especially JJ were so kind and had made the room beautifully for us. Service at dinner was slow but breakfast was a fantastic spread in a beautiful garden courtyard which kept us full all day. The pool area was pretty and so peaceful and quiet.

Van der Stel Manor is situated in the most beautiful street of Stellenbosch. Gorgeous trees and neighboring houses, calm and relaxing. We really loved proximity to the city center. The Manor is run by a couple that take things into their own hands. They are being helped by a terrific and super friendly team, the name of Proud has to be mentioned here - what a refreshing character. Always smiling and up for a quick chat. We had a room facing the parking lot which one should avoid as a very noisy generator is situated right underneath that very room. Spacious, bed comfy and bathroom all you can wish for. The pool is superb. Small but perfect. Nice sunloungers. Breakfast was below South African standards and juices were not freshly squeezed which really is standard in South Africa. But the garden where bf is served is cozy and everything is done with lots of love and dedication. We felt that this manor is mostly visited by elderly people.
