We spent six days in the winelands and chose Temple Wines guest house as our home base and to orient ourselves to the whole region. This was mostly serendipity, but it made our trip so special. Our hosts Tom & Tanya were amazing. The bed and in-room amenities are terrific and born of years of business travel by road-warrior Tom. We had the double room with garden view (connected to the winery and breakfast room). It was so spacious and well appointed. The Charlotte Rhys toiletries, USB plugs and powerful hot shower would put many five star hotels to shame. While all the other nearby reviews brag about the breakfast (they are all TRUE) but I will only add that we enjoyed the fun & lively chat with Tom and Tanya over coffee most. The pool is wonderful and the wine was great too. We are saving the large format Sorgvry (1.5 L) for a special dinner one night soon. This was our favorite wine and quite interesting as its 100% Cinsaut matured in a cement egg for 12 months. This place is a hidden gem and a perfect example of why its so fun to travel the world with a wine glass. Wine people are the best people.

Hello,

We had the chance to be warmly welcomed by Tom & Tanya at Tempel Wines during our trip to SA.

Tempel Wines has been one of our most beautiful experience around Cape Town; the farm is just perfectly located between Mountains and Vineyards... which makes the place and the trip itself very unique (compared to other Vineyards we have visited in the same area).

Tom & Tanya walked us through their wines, the way they made it etc... Super interesting and it's great to have the chance to do "educated" by experts.

"Cherry on the cake" ; your hosts will also cook for you probably the best croissants you will ever get (and as a French; I can tell I have tested many of them ;-)...

Rooms were super clean and the service just perfect.

Long story short; if you are next to CT for a wine tour, do not miss the opportunity to spend some time in Tempel Wines; a MUST !

All the best
Maxence

I must say that this is one of the best accommodation experiences I have ever had, Tom and Taryn were simply amazing hosts, personal attention to guests which is just crazy.
Hi hat a welcome … we were late but notice the beautiful roses on entrance , and being so late, Taryn was bubbly and welcoming and even offered to pack some roses for my wife.
We were treated to some lovely Tempel wine and guided on good restaurants in the area, with offer to arrange reservations considering it was so late at night.
Breakfast was a humongous variety, mostly home made, with homemade made hot section.
We were treated to a personalised wine making guide, and personalised tasting.
We will
Definitely visit again and will order lots of their lovely wine

'Tempel Wine' is undeniably one of the best guesthouses in the greater Paarl region. The friendly owners Tom and Tatjana spoil their guests with spotless rooms, a lovely swimming pool with a beautiful terrace and the best breakfast I had in South Africa (everything comes fresh and directly from the vegetable garden of the domain). But above all: the finest wines, which are among the best in South Africa, are produced on the estate itself. Tom is happy to show you around the rooms where his wines mature and organizes excellent tastings with expert knowledge. For people who love the good life: you will find it there!

This is one of those places where you read great reviews and wonder “can it be that good”. Well, yes it can! Tempel is really a wonderful experience, from the gorgeous scenery, lovely rooms and super hospitable hosts, Tatjana and Tom! We stayed in the pool room, which was great, nice size, small deck right by lovely pool. Very comfortable bed! Great bathroom and shower. From the moment we arrived and were greeted with a glass of fantastic wine, we were made to feel at home and family. You can tell Tom is super passionate about his wine making. We did a 1.5 hour personal wine tour/tasting and it was so interesting to hear all about Tempel
and the production, and of course to taste/drink the product! Tatjana is a wonderful hostess, a huge spread of home made items at breakfast each day, including jams, breads, cheese, meats, fruits, and then a hot cooked option with veg from the estate! Honestly I am still talking about the taste of the incredible tomatoes! They have 5 super cute, beautiful dogs! Which were so sweet and nice! The 2 nights was short, but wonderful. We definitely will be back and could not recommend more highly. For a great dinner in Paarl try “Noop” make a booking!

If you find yourself in the area then this is a must.
Not only was Tom & Tanya fantastic hosts (A lovely welcome where we got to sample some of their gorgeous wines, great recommendations as well as arranging the reservations, fabulous breakfast every morning). The accommodation was beautiful and finished to a very high standard. Setting was stunning with a beautiful pool.
Also great to see the goings on in the Winery.
This really is somewhere you have to visit!

This is a difficult establishment to review and so here are my thoughts based upon a nightly rate around €170 per night.

Location North of Paarl you are very much in a farming community. Score 7/10
Area Not quite the same as the more famous wine towns of Stellenbosch etc. 6/10
Wine Wine on the estate in first class 9/10
Room We had the wine room charged at a premium price. Overall it was quite basic with perhaps the worst outdoor sitting area of all the rooms. We had problems with water pressure and even when fixed the shower was only just adequate. Score 6/10
Facilities Perhaps the best swimming pool of all ten places we visited in SA. Not sure it’s heated though. Score 9/10
Breakfast Very good. Score 9/10

The owners are lovely people with an interesting background. They come across that they have very clear priorities which are 1. Family 2. Vineyard. 3. Guests. Great if you are family, fine if you run the vineyard but not so good for guests. The main house is right in the centre but it is made very clear that you were not allowed to enter these areas which didn’t make us fully comfortable. Our final day by the swimming pool was spoilt by the owners young son and his friend playing in the swimming pool. That was unacceptable when paying guests were present.

Many of my comments above can easily be corrected and I hope the owners take on board what I have said.

Would I stay here again - not at the price point being asked.

This exceptional winery offers a modern and comfortable stay, providing an intimate and exclusive experience. Guests can enjoy both a private pool and a spacious garden pool with sunbeds for ultimate relaxation. The wines are exquisite, and Tatiana, the host, is absolutely amazing—she goes above and beyond to ensure every guest feels special and cared for. Breakfast is superb, offering a wide variety of delicious options. The friendly dogs add a charming touch to the serene atmosphere. For a perfect and unforgettable getaway, this winery is an absolute must-visit!

We only stayed at Tempel Wines for one night as we needed a place to stay close to a wedding reception and we'd give the venue 5 stars. The property and grounds are beautiful, the large modern pool is really special. The rooms are nice with really comfy beds and good quality cotton. Tatjana and her husband Tom are incredibly warm and relaxed hosts; honestly, nothing is too much trouble. They gave us so much extra flexibility around check in and check out times. The breakfast is second to none, I loved the juices made from fruit and vegetables grown on-site. And we also managed to squeeze in Tom's wine tasting which was really interesting.

Wonderful stay (2 nights). Easy access to to other vineyards around in the Paarl area. Very friendly owners/winemakers that really cared about their guests and offered a personal touch of the stay. On the negative side (was not much) but our room was quite small and a bit too close to the neighboring room. For next time we know and could chose another of the 4 rooms/cottages. Finally congratulations to a wonderful SHIRAZ that I enjoyed by our little private pool. We shall be back!
