Location is perfect... The hosts are what make the property even more magical. Great food and wine.
The Guest House does not have a little lounge area but more a dining room area. Kim gives great suggestions for wine farms and restaurants in the area so dont be afraid to ask.

This place is incredible! You feel welcome right away. Kim and Toni are very caring hosts and super friendly. They spoiled us with amazing food - breakfast and dinner! They gave us many great recommendations in Paarl and surrounding areas. The location is absolutely beautiful with amazing views! One of the highlights is the nature pond! Bedrooms are very stylish and clean.

Historic farmhouse property near Paarl. Beautiful and spacious location with gardens, vineyards, lake, horses and friendly dogs. Kim and her husband are perfect hosts, super friendly and caring. Great and clean designed bedroom with separate shower and separate toilet. Had such a great and relaxed time there.

Although the website for this place looks great, we had a terrible experience.

We were there for the Tour of Good Hope and the Argus.
We booked 4 rooms for 8 people.
The 1st rooms' aircon did not work, they were not prepared to fix it and merely bought more fans at 37 degree heat. This room also did not have a fridge, which they advertised.
The second rooms' aircon stopped working as well and they were still not prepared to fix it and again brought 2 small fans. They wouldn't let us move rooms as they were not prepared to change beds from a king to two singles.
We also had no water for the first 2 days of our stay.
THe internet is highly unstable and should not be relied upon.
The guesthouse is very very close to the highway and is very noisy at night when trucks use their airbrakes.

Don't let this prettiness of the website fool you.

Our stay at the Mountain Shadows guest house was simply amazing. For people planning to visit PAARL this is the place, sweeping wineries, Olive orchards, sprawling lush green lawns & towering mountain ranges adding up to the perfect ambiance and solitude required. The rooms giving the look & feel of an old world charm yet completely comfortable. We also enjoyed fishing at the resort. Would definitely go there again soon.

Our stay was comfortable enough, The room was clean and had a large comfortable bed, but the bedrooms that we saw were tired and needed refurbishment. The bathrooms particularly showed the lack of recent decoration and ours had a horrible flickering flourescent light. The rooms were large but with old furniture and cheap cord carpet.
The aircon in one room failed while we were there and it was clear nothing would be done to fix it. Our rooms were up a wooden outside staircase to an external platform. The staircase had been repaired by nailing on lumps of wood and had an inherent sway.
Just days before we arrived they had started work to extend the dining room out into the patio area. This made the swimming pool unusable, plus on the second day they removed the roof from the dining room to facilitate the extention. We were comfortable enough eating in the living room but I understand that there is a duty on a hotel owner to inform prospective guests if building work will be done, we were not informed before arriving.
Not much choice at dinner, but the food was good.
There was an out of date 4star certificate on show, I would put it at 3 star.

2 nights of peace and perfection is a beautiful place with lovely people and their collection of dogs. My friends and I are here working hard on a project and the contrast is exactly what we hoped for. Peace, warmth and great hospitality. All was incredibly good and we will be back - next weekend is our hope.

As a manager for a band, we booked with with Mountain Shadows for accommodation for a gig nearby on New Year's Eve. We had been on a lengthy tour around the country and as a result, I had a lot of tired musicians when we arrived. We were greeted by the friendliest family you could hope for, the rooms were outstanding and quite simply, we had the best stay. Breakfast was tasty and the setting was simply superb. I would recommend this for Kings and Queens and even for us simple folk. I will definitely be staying here again! The close proximity to many of the regions best attractions makes this the only place to consider when booking accommodation. Many thanks to the Truter Family!

This place is totally perfect. You are made to feel at home as soon as you arrive. On the first night we all ate a large table with the whole family with the most yummy food. The views are insane, the owners are a delight and we will 100% come back again! The dam was just insane too - complete tranquility.

We shared an upstairs room. Bed was very comfortable but the room was every tatty and needed a serious fix up. The room is in the roof of a lovely old building and has three roof windows. The blind on one was missing and the other two were in a state of disrepair. Friends staying down stairs had cold showers. We were luckier upstairs where the water was warm - not hot. Breakfast on the terrace was good. One does not expect to pay R1100.00 B&B for a tatty room despite the beauty of the place. The friendly new proprietors assured me they were going to "return the place to its former glory." Good luck to them. Meantime reduce the cost.
