I was lucky enough to stay at the Thabile Lodge from 07 to 11 October 2021. I was picked up at the airport by a most polite and friendly driver, and had a marvelous drive through the mountains. He was super helpful to stop at a shop where I could, upon my request, buy semi precious stones for my jewelry making business. The lodge was lovely, in a semi arid area, and loved the en suite chalets.
The vista is wonderful, beautiful mountains, which changed a—reached as the day went by, best in the evening, with crystal clear air, and East to see-details. I loved the desert plants, which attracted flocks of wonderful birds; red bishops, sun birds, starlings, hoopoes, ibis, and others. Seldom one can see such a colorful variety.
The food was just Michelin Star quality, even if they don’t have a star (yet). They better hold on the the chef, or he will one day be snapped off by one of the famous restaurants. The owner, Glen, and his assistant and responsible for the bar, Nicky, were always there to guide you, entertain you and tell their stories. I felt almost like I was in a wonderful home, among friends, and I will be back, to enjoy more 0f the beautiful sights in the area, may be climb some of the mountains. Thank you for a wonderful weekend, which strengthen and renewed body and soul, and spirit.

From the minute we arrived one could feel the calmness of this nature lodge and the beauty of its surrounds working their way into your soul. Greeted by the owner Len and his bassets, we were shown around the facilities. Well appointed chalets housed the accommodation with stunning views of the red hills and Swartberg mountains in the distance. The main house with its beautiful gardens, cypress trees and pepper trees houses the restaurant, lounge and bar area, all overlooking the lush green gardens. This is a piece of heaven where ones soul can rest, surrounded by caring and friendly staff providing sumptuous breakfasts and three course dinners. Regaling stories with the Owner after dinner about local life and people had us in fits of laughter! May Thabile Lodge and the people who care after it prosper and continue to feed the souls of the wanderers, the weary and just ordinary visitors looking for a unique country side experience.

En route home from Addo National Elephant Park we spent an enjoyable night here. We were met by Hennie and all the very friendly dogs. This little oasis has a lovely pool for those hot summer days. Our chalet was carefully appointed and a very comfortable king size bed. The lodge is situated just outside Oudtshoorn on a quiet road with lovely views across the mountain.
This is ostrich country and chef Hennie produced an excellent dinner. To start with there was a mixed platter of ostrich carpaccio, bobotie spring rolls, homemade ostrich pate and a little bowl of spicy carrot soup. A great selection of what is locally available. Main was beautifully cooked tender ostrich fillet and to finish off a very light meringue dish. And local red and white wine. We specifically asked asked for an ostrich treat and chef Hennie your cooking and presentation was superb. Thank you.
A lovely breakfast was served before we headed off to the Ostrich Emporium in Oudtshoorn to stock up with this healthy meat.

Unfortunately we were the only people there that night and we really need to support our local hospitality industry who are going through a tough time.

Myself , my wife and two friends stayed over for one night at Thabile Lodge . We were met by the owner who took us to the porch for a welcome drink! No rush! Absolutely beautiful, the rooms are spacious and lovely with a great bathroom. The attention to detail is unrivaled we even got a personal welcome letter. Then we get to supper the owner “Len” takes time with each guest finding out exactly how you like your steak! It was fantastic! Thank you Len and staff !!!!

What a delight to arrive at Thabile lodge after a long journey. Len, the owner welcomes you and instantly you feel like friends. The rooms are private and have spectacular views of the Karoo landscape. Dinner on the veranda was delicious and I was served personally by the owner. I left the next day, after enjoying the home-baked breakfast treats, feeling refreshed for the journey ahead. Len and his basset hounds waved me off - I arrived a stranger, but left feeling I had made new friends.

Well, where do i start? greeted with "would you like a drink?" and then introduced to some other guests along with my wife. the accommodation maybe be simple but a great bed, a/c, fridge but with lovely touches....such as shower & taps with fabulous artisan style fittings. Dinner was so good we had all 3 nights meeting some great Brits , Germans, Latvians and of course South Africans along with three basset hounds and cocker spaniel. food was really tasty, local and served with a great smile (sorry missed your name) A fully stocked bar with wines beers and a swimming pool and a star show in the dark really rounded the visit off. Oh, and breakfast of the same quality as dinner. Thanks Guys we will be back.

PS Visit the local mountains & passes and Kango Caves

… you‘ll find it at Thabile Lodge.
We only stayed for two nights, but we left this place with our bags full of beautiful impressions.
A warm welcome by Len, his team and all these cute dogs, a chef who does not simply understand his profession but enchanted us with all his talent and cozy evenings with the funny anecdotes of the owner made this one a perfect trip to the absolutely stunning Klein Karoo.

We spent a lovely evening here after a long day’s motorcycle ride from Montagu. Henny made the stay so special with the attention and care to my dietary needs (gluten free). Our room was beautiful, the bed comfortable. The property is quiet and peaceful with no ambient light so our sleep was sound. I spent a half hour in the main lodge simply watching the birds on the feeder. Highly recommend staying here!

We stayed here for two nights on 9 October 2023 and regret we did not stay longer.
What a lovely place! The owners want you to feel at home and they succeed so well. Very nice cottage style rooms with a wonderful view. The guest premises have all you need, from a swimming pool to inviting sitting areas with cosy but artistic decoration. They serve a yummy breakfast and the evening dinner around the woodstove is excellent, no need to go out to find a restaurant, Hennie is the best cook in town.
And how could we forget, the dogs on the property are so nice!
Len, the owner, gave us advice on a beautiful trip through the Swartberg mountain area. If we ever go back to Oudtshoorn, we will definitely stay again because this place was one of the highlights of our 3 week trip through South-Africa.
Thanks, Len and Hennie!
