Nestled in the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains on a typical Little Karoo farm, you will find Berluda Farmhouse and Cottages. Enjoy a comfortable and relaxing stay with luxurious touches, personal service and South African hospitality. Our family history in the area dates back 200 years when the Schoeman ancestors started leaving their footprints in the valley. Today we are proud to share this valley with you when you visit our farm. The name Berluda is derived from an apricot variety, and today the annual harvest and jam production still forms a central part of our business. Voted best farm stay of 2018.

Detailed Reviews
We only stayed here for one night but the room was majestic, with extensive lounge/bedroom and kitchen area (fully equipped) and separate large bathroom with walk-in shower, bath, twin sinks etc. There was also an enclosed porch area with built-in barbecue!
Outside of the room there were seating areas and a small pool in the garden which was adjacent to an Ostrich enclosure, where the Ostriches were regularly putting their heads over the fence, curious to know what we were doing! A short walk provided access to additional facilities at a nearby property where there was a large pool, seating and more entertainment areas.
The duty manager was very helpful in making us feel welcome and the dinner and breakfast were tasty and plentiful. You must try the Ostrich steaks, they're really tasty and fat free.
We had to wait a while for the bar to open but then the bar service was great.
We wished we had been able to stay longer and enjoy the facilities more.

My husband and I could not believe our eyes when we arrived at Berluda it is such a lovely setting. We were even more delighted when we met the kind staff. Laura the owner checked us in to the Honeymoon suite and arranged a Braii pack to be delviered to our own room so we could cook up a traditional South African meal. This was my first time to try Ostrich and as a picky eater I was pleasently surprised. The room was idlylic with a gorgeous big bathroom, bedroom living room and kitchen. The bed was one of the comfiest I've ever slept in. I think the bedding may have been ostrich feather. There was a pool are right outside with sun beds perfect for lounging and reading. The brekafast was delicious with lots of hot and cold breakfast choices to choose from. We did the Meerkat and Ostrich safaris while on our 2 night stay which were an unforgettable experience. We got to see some baby ostriches hatch and we got to hold a baby ostrich which is someting I will never forget. The safari experience was made better by the wonderful guide/ ranger Rhino he is a true asset to the place. We were really disappointed to be checking out and will definitely visit again.

We stayed in late February 2020. From the moment my wife and I arrived to the time we checked out we were very impressed with the luxury and attention to detail. Our accommodation was a cottage by the swimming pool with views of a picturesque chapel spire. It had a comfortable kitchen and living room with a book detailing the local area, the history of the farm and why the Ostrich industry started and still flourishes at this farm. The bed was extremely comfortable.
We had dinner which was very nice and the first time I’d ate Ostrich steak which was extremely tender and everything was well cooked. The chap on the table next to us was quite demanding with various very detailed requests relating to ingredients of the food and allergies and so on. The manager was very friendly and accommodated these food requests. She also suggested various tour options and private driver options if required.
The bed was very comfortable and the morning breakfast very fresh and enjoyable. My wife and I would give Berluda a 5 star rating and would definitely recommend it. My advice is to try and stay more than one night to fully appreciate the farm tour and local tours on offer. For example there's also the nearby Cango Caves well worth a visit
If leaving Oudtshoorn towards the coast / garden route take time to visit the Oudtshoorn Emporium which sells goods relating to the Ostrich industry, local wines and farm produce.

Our family holiday, 2 adults and 2 teens consisted of 4 nights at Berluda - an unforgettable experience. From the luxurious accommodation and facilities (Cottage 7); superb breakfasts, ostrich farm tour and meerkat encounter to the tranquility of the setting and care for the environment. Nothing was substandard or compromised and we were particularly impressed by the grace and attentiveness of the owner Laura and her team and the knowledge of our guide JJ - he ensured an excellent safari outing. Thank you for making us feel so special and spoiled!

Thank you, Laura!
When I close my eyes, I can still see the beautiful Klein Karoo surroundings and feel the warm winter sun... it was the PERFECT location for the retreat I attended. Rest and recuperation for the soul.
The room was perfect. Spacious, comfortable and luxurious...I could have stayed much longer!
The food was simply scrumptious and the hospitality was heartwarming and wholesome.
Thank you! I hope to return soon, but in the meantime, I will certainly send travelers your way.

We stayed two nights at the Montana Guest House which had recently been bought by the Berluda Cottages owners. The guest house was so spacious and very clean with an enormous bathroom with jet tub and large shower. The pool out back was very private and the views were amazing. Dinner and breakfast at Berluda each night was wonderful. Delicious food and the staff was fantastic. Amore was a great hostess....very friendly and helpful. Leon who runs the tours was also so friendly. We had a fantastic stay, and if we ever get back to SA we will return to Berluda. (I consider the price budget because it was far less expensive than an average hotel in the United States, but much, much nicer.)

Highly recommend Berluda. Everything was spotless, breakfast was delicious, and the grounds were fun to explore for our toddlers. The garden is a beautiful place to sit, and the small pool was nice and shady. We highly recommend the Ostrich farm tour and the Meerkat tour. The service at Berluda was also incredible. A very unique and special stay.

We had great expectation about our very short stay at Bermuda, because of the ostrich farm and our little daughter in love with animals. We arrived quite late in the evening, had pre-booked a dinner at the restaurant following the venue's suggestion. Upon arrival we discovered that the restaurant was closed on the Sunday, we had a basket with a partially prepared dinner, as the meat was to BBQ by ourselves. After a 3 hours drive and a very long drive, not at all what we expected!!
We had then to wait a bit to have an help to light on the BBQ, but at the end the guy was really helpful, and we enjoyed our dinner at home.
The following day we had a lovely breakfast, met the Owner and had an interesting visit of the farm. At the end a very positive experience that I would recommend

Thank you for your valuable and honest feedback. We normally do a braai basket on Sunday evenings, but we hear your frustration and certainly will make sure that we communicate better to our clients. I am thankful though that the overall experience was still positive and hope to see you soon for a re-visit. In the meantime, Stay Healthy, Stay Safe and Be Blessed

This is probably our 7th visit to stay in one of the charming well equipped cottages on this vast Ostrich Farm Estate, Excellent staff, very clean cottage and lovely garden leading out to a good sized pool for swimming with very comfy sunbeds with shaded area. I had a wonderful guided tour around the farm for 2 hours which explained the breading and rearing of ostriches which i would highly recommend. The extensive gardens, recently planted orchard and beauty of this area makes for a perfect holiday with things to do or just relax and watch all the birds and majestic mountains.
