Such a pretty place, a very peaceful place to stop and relax. Madeline and Maria were so lovely. They genuinely wanted you to just relax and let them do everything for you. It was quite an intimate space where everyone sat out on the verandah for breakfast and dinner. The food was lovely and the Malva pudding was divine. All the rooms were large and the shower enclosure could of held a party!!!! Nice pool area to relax by and there was a large comfortable lounge area with an honesty bar. Great p,ace to spend a couple of days.

Altes Landhaus took a bit of finding, which was probably down to our poor navigation ….. but once there it was magical. You are surrounded by nature, with stunning views in all directions. Accommodation and dining were not what you would call ‘swish’ but the atmosphere and views were what made it 5 ⭐️, and of course the staff who were the most kind and hospitable that we have met anywhere. It was an honour to stay here and were very sad to leave .

We absolutely LOVED this Country House Hotel & everything that it offered. We had travelled from Cape Town where we stayed in a beautiful, boutique hotel & were hoping for a completely different experience at Altes Landhaus. That is exactly what we experienced. The grounds are tranquil & beautifully maintained, the accommodation in the superior suites was superb, the staff were friendly and attentive and the food we ate was worthy of any high class restaurant. We particularly loved that we could do everything at slow pace, which was the perfect contrast from the bustling city. This is such a calm and serene venue and ideal for exploring the beautiful surrounding area. A special thanks to Madeleine, who looked after us so well & recommended not only a local beauty spot and waterfall, but also the best route to the next destination on our trip. Thank you Altes Landhaus…we hope we will be able to visit you again for a longer stay. Rob & Kate

Had a very good 2 night stay here at Altes Landhaus. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was good and the house in general was very impressive. It is an ideal location for a quiet few days. It is a bit out of the way but a perfect location for peace & quiet.

This hotel felt like home from home and is well located for many of the local activities such as Cango Caves and Buffelsdrift safaris. There are only 10 rooms and the staff were really friendly; nothing was too much trouble. Rooms are large and comfortable. The food was tasty and good quality. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet, especially the opportunity to sit by the private pool in the afternoon.

The property was grand and the grounds very well maintained but the service was NOT 5 STAR. 1. When the owner Gail showed us to our room, she omitted to tell us that there would be no electricity for the next 2 hours. Surely a 5* venue should have a generator that kicks in when loadshedding occurs? 2. There was no milk in our fridge for a cup of tea. In fact, the fridge was completely empty. 3. We asked to book a table for dinner for 6.30pm and were told that the earliest booking they took was 7.15pm. We eventually got some food at 7.45pm. 4. It is the only establishment where I have gone for dinner and had to make/pour my own drink from an honesty bar. 5. Everywhere else we have stayed in SA, the owner/manager has wandered around at breakfast time checking with each guest that he/she had a good night's sleep and was enjoying his/her stay. Not here. The owner was conspicuous by her absence. 6. There was no atmosphere. In fact, my wife said that it was "soulless" Of all the places that we have stayed in our month long trip to SA, this was the worst (for a supposed 5 star)

Great hotel and staff. Food was very good. Vernon went out of his way to find us a TV showing the England rugby game were we joined up with another couple to watch it. Nothing was too much for him and the staff. Stunning location and a pleasure to stay there.

An absolutely wonderful venue set in breathtaking scenary. Very spacious and well equipped bedrooms, comfortable and inviting public areas and a must visit 'Nick's Landing' which is a magnificent bar tucked just behind the scenic pool area. Dinner was amazing along with a plentiful breakfast taken on a terrace overlooking the manicured grounds. Really sorry to not have spent more time here. Hats off to the wonderful team who make this a must visit venue when exploring the breathtaking garden route across South Africa. Bravo team Altes Landhaus.

What an incredible find! We worked with Trailfinders to secure a booking here and were NOT disappointed. Awesome manor. The open-air dining hall was decorated with antiques and a bamboo ceiling that can only be seen to be believed. The grounds are beautiful with a lovely swimming pool for cooling off and plenty of space for unwinding. We stayed in a massive "superior" room that was beautifully appointed and next door to a wonderful lounge. All rooms air conditioned, WIFI was great and the staff was incredible: SO attentive. The menu was varied and our food well-prepared. We are hoping to return one day!!
