We stayed her for 1 night on our way through from De Hoop to Knysna.

Jeandre was a fabulous welcoming host and was full of info about the surrounding area and great wine suggestions!

The rooms are really large and spotless with all the amenities you need. Built in 'blocks' throughout the large gardens so feels very private.

Dinner was super with attentive friendly service from Beatrice and a feast cooked up by Donna. Breakfast was just as super! A++ for the food and wine. As a vegetarian for 17 years I rarely been fed as well at an accommodation in South Africa (and I have been to many), Donna really puts in the effort to cater for everyone!

Perfect location on the road to the Cango Caves so that you can get there in time for the first tour of the day!

Thorntree Country Lodge...... what a great escape to nature at its best, filled with beauty and wonder, where you experience great atmosphere, excellent guest services, great food, warm and cozy staff with a passion for what they do in the midst of the Klein Karoo. It is a must for anyone, a place to reboot, clear your mind in pursuit of your own passions in life. Great for friends or family and couples getaway, even business or corporate meetings in a holiday setup. Awestruck with the stars and earth invading your occupied space in the evening as it sits on you and being swept away with the beauty and chirping birds in the morning and afternoon (something that will only make sense when you come to visit). This is a place meant for a bucket list indeed.

We stayed 2 nights at Thorntree Country Lodge. Comfortable and relaxing stay just out of Oudtshoorn. We're impressed by the warm welcome of the manager and the complete crew. They made every effort to make sure we were comfortably settled. WIFI was a bit slow. But dinner was perfect. Beautifilly maintained gardens. Would highly recommend.

Perfect lodge for relaxing after a busy day. To take a dive in the pool, soak up the south-African sun. The food and wine are delicious. Friendly owners and staff. The rooms are clean with good beds.

We got to stay there for one night and it was very pleasant! The garden is cultivated beautifully, there's a nice terrace and the rooms were good, too. Due to the unexpected powerful rain they had the day before, following on big burns, there was dirt in the wather, so it was kind of brownish. The housekeeper apologized many times for this but of course it was not their fault. Anyway it didn't bother us at all, you could still easyly take a shower or wash your hands!!! So no worries about that!
In the evening we had dinner in the house and this was soooo good! Starter, main dish and dessert. As main dish I tried for the first time austrich steak and I liked it a lot. We spoke with the cook how is (together with his wife) the owner of this pretty house. He was very friendly and we had a sympatic conversation. Close to the guest house is an austrich farm that we visited.

The setting is really beautiful and you can take a walk in the gardens surrounding the rooms.
The staff is very attentive (they even wash your car before you head out!) & the owner comes to great you at your table during diner. The meal was really enjoyable with tasty food and a good choice of wine.
However we were quite disappointed by the lack of cleanliness: big (grease?) stains on the bed covers & dirty napkins for diner (with food, stuck to it...)

We were at the Cango caves When we decided to stay in oudtshoorn for the night. Luckily thorntree had a room for us and our three young children. The country house has the most beautiful gardens and the staff are very friendly. We had a inter leading room that was very clean. Crisp linen and fresh towels. Loved the ostrich stark for dinner. We would def recommend it.. Thumbs up, thorntree!!!

I've come to the Thorntree many times and I always loved the setting, the friendly staff, the amazing food. But this is the first time that I have Wifi access in my room as well. Louis promised it and he delivered. It is absolutely impossible to leave the place without a smile on your face.
Now it's almost perfect and I know that it will be next time.

Nice clean, comfortable accommodation in beautifully kept grounds in easy reach of the Cango Caves and Ostrich Farm. Louis is an engaging and helpful host. We chose to have dinner here and it was well cooked, presented and good value. Try the ostrich steaks! A suggestion would be to re consider the breakfast menu and perhaps revert to the style of a fruit and cereal buffet rather than the breakfast cocktail which was presented. My observation was that this did not find favour with most people, particularly children. Generally though, a very pleasant place for a stopover.

Lovely rooms in individual cottages which are well equiped. Nice, but immature, gardens and pool area. Louis is a charming host and nothing is too much trouble. Dinner and breakfast were very good.
