Relive the past in the luxury of the present. De Opstal Country Lodge is the best choice for your stay in the county side of Oudtshoorn. The Lodge consists of a group of typical Little Karoo farm buildings, beautifully restored and fitted with modern conveniences, set in a lush, beautifully maintained garden. The complex has a salt water swimming pool and a rustic restaurant where traditional breakfasts and hearty farm–style dinners are served.

I arranged accommodation from home in the UK for a party of 3. We hired a car in Port Elizabeth and took a few days to travel to Cape Town. De Opstal.Country Lodge being an overnight stay encounter and what an absolute treasure of a Lodge. We stayed in the original farmhouse everything.is beautiful, furniture, ambience totally blissful. This family run business go out of their way to ensure guests have a comfortable stay, nothing is too much trouble.

Set in wonderful countryside a few kilometers from town but with loads going on nearby. Our room was superb with a king size bed, loads of space and a great bathroom. Not long after arrival, however, a water pump failed meaning we had no running water to the room whatsoever. So, no shower after a long day's traveling. The grounds are lovely. Rooms are individual lodges in the garden. The pool looked amazing too. The restaurant wasn't open the evening we arrived but they booked us in at Buffles Drift, 10 mins drive away. (The water was back on when we returned). The meal there was superb. Better, in fact, than at De Opstal on the second evening. Service was excellent & the hostess was lovely.

We had a wonderful, individually furnished room, being one of two in a building, and it looked like all the other rooms were similarly spread out and individually furnished. The whole setup with the separate rooms and lovely garden including a pool was extremely pleasant. And all the staff could not have been more helpful

Room was fine and very nice gardens. It was start of the season and not many guests so service was a bit patchy. Their web site does state that the restaurant may not be open all the time, depending on numbers. Although we booked dinner for both nights we were encouraged to eat out on the second night as no one else was dining. (Would highly recommend Buffelsdrift about a 10 min drive away) Staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was a mixture of buffet and cooked food.

Thank you to Matilda and all the staff at De Opstal Lodge. Our time with you was extremely relaxing and enjoyable. The accommodation is excellent, homely and spacious. Home cooked food was a real treat and very tasty. The location was perfect and thank you for arranging the ostrich hatchery and farm tour, this was a highlight for us.

A surprisingly large property, containing gardens, a small pool, unusual knickknacks (e.g., old bicycles, a cart full of ostrich eggs), a great wedding venue. Busy on weekends there are weddings, but peaceful and quiet while I was there. Extremely comfortable bed, large jet tub, fire place, chandeliers in the bedroom and the bathroom! The best thing though is the people. They noticed I had left a bag, rang the next place I was staying, and then dropped it off. Even though it wasn't a long distance, the thought and effort was greatly appreciated.

De Opstal Country Lodge is an amazing place to stay, from arrival to departure you experienced good old fashion hospitality, from all the staff, there was nothing that was to much for them. The accomidation is an amazing old farm that has been converted into a lodge while keeping all of its charm. Well situated just outside Oudtshoorn. It is definetly worth a visit.

In general its a great place and we like it as a first try. Un fortunately there was quir some significant miss communication between management and staff resulted in really bad service. We had a discussion with management but I think it was just not right recived so I only wasted my energy.

As soon as you drive into the De Opstal property you sense that this is a different kind of place. The owners don't just DO hospitality as a means to an end; they ARE hospitality embodied. It feels like it's their life's mission. De Opstal's old charm accommodations are surrounded by magnificent flower gardens, fruit trees, and fields that are not over-manicured, rather reflective of the owner's true love of nature and deep desire to create an environment for their guests that engages all their senses. The only downside was having to leave this slice of paradise.

Yes they do have free wifi which seemed to work well in our room as I have found that in some places where you are in a cottage/chalet away from the centre you are stumped.Hairdryer in the room.

What a pity you do not say what happened as usually there is a simple explanation when looked at rationally. Had NO similar problems when we stayed there and none of our group of 28 mentioned anything unusual.
