Comfortable and quiet room with very nice bathroom overlooking peaceful gardens. The bed was very comfortable the rooms spotlessly clean and well equipped. The bathroom was large with separate toilet, twin basins corner bath and shower. South Africa is currently experiencing a water shortage so we did not use the bath but the shower was powerful. Room was air conditioned and had a fridge and tea making facilities. The room had an outside terrace so you could sit under a shade in the garden. We used the swimming pool which was very refreshing as temperatures during our visit were 35 degrees c. The breakfast buffet was lovely, beautiful fresh fruit, freshly cooked to order hot breakfast as well as breads yoghurts cereals etc. They catered for my milk intolerance too and made me porridge with almond milk. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We also had some laundry done here. It was collected in the morning and delivered in the evening beautifully cleaned and ironed for an extremely reasonable price. I would definitely stay here again.
It is worth mentioning that South Africa has been having power cuts on a daily basis which is known as load shedding. At the time of our visit this was for 2 hours twice a day. This is not the fault of the hotel and is country wide. They are at planned times and this hotel was great as they were upfront with us as to when they would be. Sometimes they were in the middle of the night so didn’t affect us. However we were provided with a paraffin lamp and matches so we did not have to sit in the dark

My husband booked 2 nights for us at Hlangana Lodge when we visited his brother & sister-in-law in Oudtshoorn.
We’ve been to Oudtshoorn on several occasions in the past and always try different places to stay - well that was until the most recent visit where we stayed at Hlangana. Now we have found our ultimate stayover destination in the Klein Karoo town of Oudtshoorn.
The place is a gem and the staff knows how to treat their customers. Even the cats made us feel welcomed and special.
Rooms are wel equiped with everything your heart desire. The garden is in super condition and a place where your soul can find peace.
Breakfasts are a gourmet feast and served in a lovely dining room with large doors opened to welcome nature inside and adding to a wonderful atmosphere.
There is a well maintained swimming pool where one can cool down on a hot summer’s day.
We stayed in one of the ‘standard’ rooms and were very happy and comfortable with what it offered.
We will only use Hlangana as our stayover destination for all future visits to Oudtshoorn ❤️

A lovely country setting and grounds just off the main road. We parked in the private car park just inside the gate which felt safe and secure.
A nice welcome and we were shown to a room that was overlooking the pool.
The room had a king-size bed and also a separate bedroom with two singles. It had a shower and bathroom that was adequate for our needs.
Breakfast is served in or outside the restaurant and was a nice relaxing setting.
The pool is large and was very quiet when we stayed with plenty of sunbeds available. We really enjoyed the grounds and relaxing atmosphere here. There is some road noise but this was not excessive and did not bother us.

The distance to the main street in Oudtshoorn is a little too far to walk but we got a taxi quickly and easily for only 50 rand each way. There are a few nice places at the northern end of the street to eat. Booking is recommended as there is no restaurant available in the evenings at the lodge.
We would recommend and return for our next stay.

Arriving at Hlangana Lodge after a long day's ride was like entering the Garden of Eden. The beautiful grounds and pool were spectacular. The rooms were very comfortable and clean, and the breakfast excellent. The really exceptional thing about this place though was the unbelievably friendly, helpful and accommodating approach of Anjo and all the staff who really went out of their way to make us welcome and assist with whatever they could to make our stay pleasant. As a cycling group we had bikes to wash and store securely, laundry to do, etc. and nothing was too much trouble. Would love to go back!

We stayed one (1) night, as we were passing through the Oudtshoorn area, and we very pleasantly surprised with this outstanding country lodge. Our room was modern, spacious, and clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the grounds were well maintained. The staff offered numerous suggestions for dinner at nearby restaurants, and offered a free continental and/ or hot breakfast menu for an additional fee.

Very comfortable lodge just outside Oudtshoom South Africa, technical stop from route 62 to reach Garden Route, room in a row of residences, bathroom big and very clean. Good service, in the hall they keep menus of the restaurants in town, so you can chose the best ones, in some case there is a restaurant shuttle that is picking you up for going to dinner.
Good choice!

We stayed here as a one night stop on our South African trip, and it was a good stay but not excellent.
The room was wonderful, with a very comfortable bed, large bathroom and sort of living area, a small private garden and a parking spot right behind it with direct access to the room (it was the honeymoon suite).
A few things that didn’t make the stay excellent were the parking that was meant for us, was not available as some other car was parked there (if it’s public parking, mention it. If it’s private to the room, clearly mark it).
In all other hotels we stayed, there was no shortage of coffee in the room, here we were provided with just one pod each.
Breakfast could’ve been better… there was a relatively decent choice, but they would charge for hot breakfast (fine, but should make it clear at check in), they made you pay extra for espressos (filter coffee was included) and there was no bread available to toast (they run out but didn’t replenish).

Overall it was a good stay, but there were a few things that let us down.

An upmarket lodge which was reflected in the price. They provide continental breakfast (cooked breakfast was available at extra cost). We had suite 31 which was lovely and featured an outside shower. The room was very large, clean and comfy. It also had an outside area to sit. The continental breakfast was very underwhelming (we didn't have the cooked option). The wifi would not work in our room.
Felt it was a little impersonal compared to other place we stayed in the area.

Whilst the hotel is next to a road, its generally a peaceful spot to redt up. The room had everything you need and we're comfy.
The staff were by far the best thing here, helpful with queries and couldn't do enough for you.
It's a short drive or taxi to local restaurants and 'Nostagie' is a must.
Continental Breakfast was very good and my only gripe was that anything cooked was chargeable and not really adequately advertised. Why not charge a small amount more and include everything at breakfast rather than annoying people ?
Minor gripe on a lovely hotel

Not sure how to put this really, but to say that while ok, neither Oudtshoorn nor Hlangana Lodge were a really great experience. Perhaps we were just exhausted after a long drive, but we found the hotel tired & and bit ragged around the edges, the front reception staff indifferent, and the mattress unusually hard (I’m someone who prefers a supportive mattress, but this was really excessive). The grounds were beautiful, and I’m sure the lodge is one of the better places if you’re staying in town. PS as the hotel does not have a dinner restaurant, you need to eat elsewhere, and I’m sorry to say that while the town does seem to have good restaurants, we did not feel very safe there after dark - I realize these things are very subjective, so it might just be us, but what it boils down to is that if you wanted to make a stop here to see the things this region has to offer, then personally I’d stay in a lodge outside of town with a restaurant. Sorry.

Yes there is a hair dryer. Buy an adapter plug in the UK - they are difficult to get even here and are almost impossible in SA. SA plugs are 3 pin but round. I suggest using ebay - I have bought my last two adapters this way and its the cheapest and quickest

Hello there, I'm the owner of Hlangana Lodge. There is a wide variety at breakfast to suit al diets, we will also gladly cater special requests if notified beforehand. We have recently added 4 economy rooms, these are not facing the large gardens overlooking the swimming pool or fountain, they are located more at the side of the lodge with a smaller garden and smaller bathrooms, these are a bit cheaper than standard rooms, hence the name. Breakfast is still the same for all room types though. Kind regards, Bert Verlinde

Hello Daniel. The pool is not heated and winters in Oudtshoorn climate can get quite cold due to our semi desert climate. You're welcome to use the pool but we'll have hot coffee ready for when you get out!
