Detailed Reviews
We stayed here on night 1 of our four day garden route tour and arrived at 1725 in the middle of a load sharing electrical power cut. Fortunately we had a standard pitched roof room and not a yurt style as these were very dark. Power resumed at 1810 for about a minute before we lost it again for 3 hours. This meant eating by candle light. The food although reasonably tasty was limited buffet style and not too warm. Breakfast was fine though before we left at 0830 so no chance to comment on the hotels amenities.

We stayed for one night in the rooms with the thatched roof. Whilst this was a novelty, there was a downside. The room is well equipped and the beds very comfortable, with white clean linen. However on closer inspection, one side of the bed was covered in bits. We brushed this off whilst we unpacked only to find it covered again. Dust, bits of twig and bugs fall from the thatched roof where the beam is. My partner and I ended up sleeping in separate beds. We had a buffet dinner, very nice beef. This hotel does not offer gluten free bed or cereals (I am Coeliac). However, eggs, omelette, bacon, yoghurt and fruit are available.

Travelling back to PE from Cape Town and made this our overnight stop. The rondavel rooms were great, nicely equipped and the beds most comfortable.
They had nice play things for the young kids and the trampoline was very busy the afternoon we were there.
Had supper in their dining room and food was fine and service was good. We enjoyed the breakfast the next morning.
Found all staff to be friendly and most helpful.
Had a most enjoyable stay and can thoroughly recommend it

Grounds are neat and clean as are the rooms.
Staff were friendly and accommodating
However the following was very poor:
Pillows on the bed were terrible.
No shampoo in the shower only body wash/shampoo. How can a body wash be a shampoo?
No drinks in the bar fridge, not even cold water (remember the climate in Oudtshoorn is very hot in summer (35C-40C) so when you return to your room there isn't even cold water in the fridge.
The dinning area is dark and dingy
The breakfast was so poor for the price. Everything was covered in cling film.
Rooms were clean and comfortable except for the pillows.

This is a nice hotel, however their process during a rolling blackout is non -existent. Power was out when we checked in and would be out for at least an hour. We hung around in lobby bar for WiFi & heat. Then in morning, power was out from 8 am until 10:30 am. We understand that the blackouts are not under the hotel’s control. However after researching and talking to locals, the blackouts are scheduled & publicized. The Marriott should tell the paying customers when the blackouts are scheduled. The customer could then plan accordingly. In the morning, the receptionist said the generator was going for our building so we would have hot water. We walked backed to room and no hot water (see pictures). I picked up phone to call front desk …. no power for phone. Ugh. We packed up. I went to check out and inquired about hot water and also asked for discount for a room that all I got was a bed to sleep in & breakfast. She needed to ask someone. She stated a switch was not set to turn on hot water. What? The only function of the generator was for hot water. Why wasn’t this switch on? This should be on a process checklist as this is the only function of the generator in these rooms.
She then said they couldn’t discount the room, just a credit for the dinner we didn’t get nor did we know we were supposed to get the night before. Discount was. Seriously?
If you have to stop in Oudtshoorn, skip this hotel until they get a better blackout procedure or reimburse their Bonvoy members better.

We stayed here for 2 nights. The accommodation was very good, the staff were all very accommodating and friendly. There are several restaurants and cafes nearby.
Drinks service was offered by the pool, and for dinner we both had a Greek salad with chicken strips, which was very tasty.

Hi
I m very disappointed about this hotel > we left card with stamps at the hotel reception and they never posted the postal cards for us . There was noise from arriving guests in teh middle of the night slamming of van doors for like 40 min . The food at this hotel was however excellent .

We underestimated the travel time over the mountain passes in South Africa so after being already late on our way to the Cango Caves near Oudtshoorn we decided to stay overnight in this Protea Hotel in Oudtshoorn. Was an excellent decision. Very friendly receptionist, very attentive service including restaurant, nice King size bed and the room also very clean! Graham, the jack of all trades was the icing on the cake! Highly recommended.

The hotel is placed in a larger park just on the outside of Oudtshoorn. Nice and clean rooms and build in a "just a look a like" the old huts from the different tribes in S A.
We were there on a rather cold afternoon and the dinner(buffet) was served in the restaurant with a high roof. That means rather chilly - all the warmth from other guests "climbs" to the top of the roof.
Lucky us; in the bar it was an open fire so we had dinner in front of us. That saved the dinner and also made the afternoon rather romantic as well.
Quite ok breakfast - and the omelette was good .
Thank you

Good Monring
We are doing out best to finish rooms by December, but due to high season we cannot guarantee that all will be done.
The owner is currently consulting with suppliers to upgrade WiFi.
Kind Regards
Elamrie
Yes there is a fridge in the room. As well as kettle with coffee and tea. Breakfast is R120 if i remember correctly, but optional.
