Had a wonderful evening at Surval Boutique Olive Estate . The room was very large and tastefully decorated . Our dinner there was world class and the staff very friendly. We walked around the estate in the morning ...through olive trees and an orchard with pomegranate trees laden with fruit.
We have visited the restaurant Su Casa on previous visits to Oudshoorn and this time we decided to stay. The room was big, clean and was well equipped. The staff were very pleasant on checking in and at breakfast. The grounds are beautiful with choice of two pools with stunning vista and impeccable grounds. A stream runs through the property which adds a special touch. The breakfast was incredible, so much food and all top quality. We didn’t visit the restaurant in the evening as on our stay there were very few guests due to pandemic so we went to Bufflesdrift game farm just up the road for dinner each evening which is also amazing. We would definitely stay at Surval when we visit Oudshoorn again and I would recommend it to anyone for a relaxing top class stay.
Maybe it was that the running of everything - from check-in to waitering to barman duties - at the Surval Boutique Olive Estate was left to only one person while the rest of the staff, including the chefs, took the weekend off because I can rate our disappointing experience as a two star: A ⭐ for Jacques Boshoff who tried his best to be attentive and another ⭐ for the muesli at breakfast. ✔ for a lovely big bed and soft pillows ❌ for the 2 sachets (only two!) of coffee in the room (rusks or biscotti would be a welcome addition to the morning coffee tray) ❌ for a shower that was clogged and eventually overflowed ✔ for a lovely olive tasting platter - the olive chutney is seriously good! ❌ cold calamari and chips are never enjoyable ❌ the veggies that were served with the pepper-crusted steak... I have no words. It was so bad. Was it a packet of mixed frozen veggies that was quickly popped into the microwave? No salt, no taste, no imagination. Bland and boring. ❌ Waffles need to be crispy on outside and fluffy on the inside. A dry waffle is a waffle that needs to be chucked in the bin because no amount of syrup will fix it. Please also keep in mind that some guests prefer cream with their waffles and a "sorry but we only have ice cream" when you serve it will not do. Tell people beforehand. ❌ No juice at breakfast table. ❌ Table not set up for dinner and breakfast. We had to ask at reception for cutlery. ❌ Such a lovely big fireplace in the bar area - how about lighting it to create a welcoming ambience when you expect guests for dinner? It was cold, we had to light the fire ourselves, and then we were told there is no more wood. ❌ Eggs Benedict are usually served with a dollop or two Hollandaise sauce. Although the eggs were perfectly poached, the breakfast was swimming in a watery mustard-flavoured sauce that probably came from a squeezy bottle of buy one get one free cheap imitation sauce. Surval was such a treasure find and the lushness, serenity and beauty of the property was simply amazing! Jacque and Ashley were beyond amazing and so helpful with surrounding attraction directions. We'll be back in a heart beat xx
stayed just one day/overnight on garden route trip with Ilios. Delighted with all the facilities --great rooms and grounds with nice pool etc. Quiet as low season but great food and service.Would expect it to be lively in high season as outdoor BBQ facility there and big outside stage area suggests active entertainment etc.C.hapel on grounds for weddings
