This guest house is situated just outside Oudtshoorn on the way to Cango Caves. This guest house is owned and run by Anzue. There are 6 double rooms each with their own entrance and ensuite bathrooms. Rooms are spacious and new with wonderful finishes. The setting of the guest house is beautiful and we loved eating a delicious breakfast while being surrounded by mountains and watching ostriches nearby. I would have no hesitation in recommending this establishment especially to guests touring The Garden Route.

This is the second time we have stayed here and was even better than the first. Just 2 of us but booked the family room as it’s such a beautifully decorated and spacious room.
Attention to detail is incredible- small flowers placed everywhere- even on the toilet roll!
Beautiful tranquil garden and short stroll to the church or a local winery.
Situated midway between Kango caves and Oudtshoorn so a 15 min drive to Oudtshoorn restaurants. (We don’t recommend the nearby Mill restaurant towards Kango)
What we do recommend are the Braai (barbecue) put on most nights by the host. Beautifully cooked local meats - very tender ostrich and home produced vegetables and South African melk tart pudding.
Highly recommended and we would certainly go back again.

We stayed here because it is close to Cango Caves, which was on our list of “must do”.
The property is set in beautiful gardens and we could feel the love which has been poured into this venue the moment we drove through the gate. Die Fonteyn is surrounded by farmland, - a beautiful church, a prestigious winery and an ostrich farm are all a very short stroll away. There was a decanter of complimentary sherry in our room - a first!
The owner advertised her evening meal, a set menu, on a board at reception..... I urge you to eat here, the food is lovely, the vegetables are from the garden, the bread is homemade, portions are generous and fab BBQ meats. The owner is clearly a talented and caring cook.

We arrived at Die Fonteine after an 11 hour drive and walking into the room was like getting the biggest hug! Sherry waiting for us, absolutely beautifully furnished room and spotless bathroom with a massive shower. The most comfortable bed we had slept in for 3 weeks on our trip! We woke up the next morning to see the exquisite garden around us and swam in the gorgeous pool looking out at the mountains. Breakfast was amazing!
The owner is so lovely and has put so much thought and detail into every aspect of her property and service.
Highly recommend...wish we could have stayed longer.

We booked this just for one night because we were travelling to Cango Caves from Wilderness and didn't fancy doing the return journey all in one day.

Wow. Our room was lovely, absolutely charming, clean, safe and comfortable. What more could you ask? But what really surprised us was the gardens. They are a real labour of love with lots of lovely plants, various shaded areas to sit in, a few farm animals (cows, sheep, chickens) and a large swimming dam which was really appreciated after a hot day. You would never believe that such a lovely garden could be found in the middle of what is effectively a desert. I would recommend spending the extra few Rand to have a room with a terrace and mountain view because we really enjoyed sitting outside our room in the evening with a bottle wine from the honesty bar (stocked from the local winery next door).

The Cango Ostrich show farm is walking distance (allow an hour or so, it's not huge), and you can also visit the local church and winery. We also did the Cango Caves, Cango Wildlife reserve, the CP Nel museum in Oudtshoorn, and the Meringsport Waterfall (40min drive) all in our two days, for which this property was conveniently located. The only downside with the location is that eating options in the evening are limited, so we would recommend booking a nearby restaurant in advance or eating before you arrive. Wish we could have stayed longer.

My wife and I stayed just for one night here as we road tripped around the Garden Route in South Africa.
This is a lovely homestead set in a picturesque village just north of Oudtshoorn.
A warm welcome from our host, a very nicely appointed room with ensuite, and a picturesque outlook from the property.
You can book dinner (do it before 4pm), in our case, we didn’t arrive in time for that, but took our host’s suggestion for a good restaurant down the road.
The bed was warm and comfortable (winter was with us), a good night’s sleep, and a wonderful breakfast in the morning.
Thanks Anzue!

My wife and the in-laws spent 2 nights at the lovely Die Fonteine guesthouse. We could not fault our stay.
The setting is beautiful and very peaceful. The owners have spent a lot of money on the grounds and they are beautiful, there is even a swimming hole, unfortunately we did not try it out as we visited in October 2017 and it was a little cold.
Our arrival was faultless with a very friendly host. Our room was around the side of the building and we could park our rental car right outside the room. The room was large with a large queen size bed and a wardrobe. The bathroom was large with a bath and shower as well as a his & hers sink. The shower was great with lots of hot water. There was also a air-conditioner/heater in the room. There was a kettle for tea/coffee and a fridge which had fresh milk. There was WiFi on the room but it was not great, but who cares as you are on holiday! Breakfast was fantastic and included fresh muffins, tea/coffee and a cooked breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast etc.
The B&B is a little way out of Oudtshoorn but there are a number of restaurants nearby. One of the nights we were there the owners did a BBQ which was yum! We had chicken and ostrich as well as salads and dessert in the price. They also had a bar with soft an alcoholic drinks.
The B&B is ideally located to access a number of activities on the area including the Congo Caves and Ostrich farms

If you are thinking of staying in Oudtshoorn, be sure to stay at Die Fontaine, a wonderful place with the best accomodations, views and a mouth-watering breakfast. Lovely owner and excellent location, just minutes from the Cango Caves and walk distance of the Cango Ostrich farm.

When we were booking guest houses to stay at on our trip we tried Oudtshoorn first before coming to realise that the Arts Festival was on that week and places were fully booked in town. So we had to look a little further out and thank goodness we did otherwise we would not have found Die Fonteine. This guest house is a sheer delight, as is the host Anzue, who made us feel so welcome from the minute we arrived. As others have remarked, attention to detail is second to none, there were so many nice little touches around our room that showed a lot of thought had gone into it. Spotlessly clean, beautifully presented. Our room, the Clivia Room, had a nice veranda area outside where you could sit and admire the view, or there was a larger seating area around the front of the veranda where you could meet and chat with other guests, which we did.
On arrival, we commented that eating out options in Schoemanshoek, which is tiny, looked a little limited and wondered what our options were. Anzue informed us that she had taken the liberty (her words not ours!!) of booking us in at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge, about 5km down the road towards Oudtshoorn. What a revelation that was, set around a dam with the possibility of seeing hippo (we didn't) but we did see plenty of huge fish and some turtles. You need to arrive before it falls dark to appreciate the setting but it is also a very nice atmosphere once darkness has fallen.
Another recommended eating option, about 1km further down the road, is Surval. Located on an olive estate, again a beautiful setting and good food, and wonderful service.
Breakfast at Die Fonteine was plentiful, loads of options available, extremely generous. Added to that the ever-present home-made carrot cake available for guests to help themselves with teas and coffees. It would be hard to find a nicer place to stay and better value.
Would recommend Die Fonteine to anybody and we would stay again in a heartbeat if ever in this region again.
Handily placed for Cango Caves and the Swartberg Pass, now THAT was an experience!

We booked a room for 2 nights in December. First evening we had a Braai on site done by the Owners themselfs with a soup as a starter, Ostrich Steaks, Chicken and Borewors from the Grill. As a Dessert the had a vanilla tart very tasty. The surroundings of the Guesthouse really stunning, a big garden with a lot of plants, flowers etc.. A pool is also on site. Very nice and friendly treatment during our stay. Good value for money. Also a bit out of Town is worth to decide for this Location. A Ostrich Farm is across the Street and the Karusa Wine Estate as well just around the corner. Two Restaurants close. We would come back if we go again to Oudtshoorn.
