The rooms (tents) were clean although a bit run down. There were nails sticking up in the decks outside and thorns that came in on your shoes made walking barefoot dangerous. Pascal drew us in with great prices for our group but these vanished when a couple could not come. He charged us R250 each for below average vegetable lasagne with a small salad and some strawberries for pudding. I would not advise eating there. The views are good but I would not go back.

Response from Pascal Chanel, Owner at le petit karoo
Responded 23 Nov 2022
We are so sorry that you are disappointed with your experience at Le Petit. We are unaware that you had a problem as you did not inform anyone of your problems. We are in nature and therefor thorns are part of the area but we work hard on keeping them at bay. Group prices are less lower than the normal rack rates and will not be possible for individual bookings due to our high overheads. We normally get very good compliments for our food and would have made an effort to compromise for your disappointment should we have been aware of your unhappiness. We apologize once again for the inconvenience.

This place looks nothing like it does in the photos. This place is rundown and dirty. There is nothing luxury about this place at all. The bath and toilets are disgusting. There's generators running all day and night. There's poor lighting on top of load shedding. There is nails sticking out the wooden floor and rust and mould on the walls and ceiling. The owner of this place was rude and drunk on arrival of us getting here. The road up to the campsite is a single track road up a steep Mountain side. It has not been made well and is not well lit up at night. There really isn't anything good to say about this place. Please don't waist your time or money here. Again it's nothing like what any of the pictures look like online. It's all a con. This place hasn't been looked after and everything here was probably more than 20 years old. This place needs new ownership and renovations done to it before it's worth a thought.

Response from Pascal Chanel, Owner at le petit karoo
Responded 24 Nov 2022
We would like to apologize sincerely if your expectations were not met of Le Petit Karoo. The photos of the establishment is the latest that we took from the rooms etc as is currently. As for the generators, we are in a remote area and should we have loadshedding we make use of generators. We can get only so much power out of the generators. The sound travels far and clear due to the tranquil environment. We regularly do maintenance on all our rooms and tents. We were unaware of your hostile feelings toward the establishment as no one informed us. We take note of all of your input and will certainly see to all of your input gets the necessary attention for future guests.

During our road trip in December 2021, we booked a last minute room at La Petit Karoo and we are so glad we found this gem, with breath taking views of Oudtschoorn and pool with braai facilities its a fantastic place to stay. We only stayed one night and we were very comfortable. We arrived late so didnt use the pool, but made use of the huge jacuzzi bath tub in our room. We stayed in a room with a king size bed and single bed for our son. The beds were so comfortable and the room was clean. Our shower gave us some issues but I was so happy to bath again hehe t

We visited here about 4 years ago and again on our way to the coast this year. It is just outside Oudtshoorn, on a koppie and has amazing views. The pool is a great bonus, and was a big hit with the kids. So sorry that Pascal does not offer dinner anymore.

Beautiful views and a perfect mix of rustic and comfort, with all the amenities necessary. Such a perfect host, too. Your own little piece of the Karoo, complete with some springbok and plenty of birds.

Was a very lovely stay in the Karoo. GREAT views and beautiful setting. Very friendly welcome and staff as well. The only thing I can fault was that the mini fridge was not plugged in on arrival and therefore we could not chill some of our refreshments.

We had no hot water so we had to top and tail with water boiled in the kettle. On top of this there was no basin plug so we had to use TP. We reported this but only got a response the next morning on checking out. The tent had spiderwebs and spiders in the corners!

Le Petit Karoo was the last stop on our honeymoon and we are very happy to have found this hidden gem. Pascal was welcoming and accommodating and created a lovely atmosphere for our breakfast table on the deck. We stayed in the luxury tents which had spectacular views of the valley and the best bubble bath ever! Thank you for having us. We will be back!
