Nestled amongst ancient Milkwood trees and overlooking 8 kilometres of Noordhoek beach is Monkey Valley Resort. World's apart from city living yet only 25 minutes to the centre of Cape Town - Monkey Valley Resort is an atypical splendor tucked onto the southern slopes of Chapman's Peak Drive. The resort offers a blend of self-catering old world log and brick thatched luxury cottages and bedrooms. What a lovely relaxing 3 day weekend we had at Monkey Valley. Stunning views, comfortable cabin. Lovely walk through the magical milkwood forest to the long white Beach. Horse riding available at nearby property. Great food at the Monkey valley restaurant at reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Walking distance to local pub with craft beer and local band. We were transported back to Bali in the Oshun Garden and Interior shop - worth a visit, and enjoyed a pizza at Lemoncello Ristorante. Will love to go back.

The setting is really lovely. Underneath beautiful Milkwood trees and the views are next level. The service is slow and the rooms are tired. The food is very average. It is still worth a visit for a drink to drink in the views

Lovely spot, great view & very proactive & friendly staff.
It was very pleasant service & excellent quality food. Very professional.
The nearby beach invites to stroll & swim.
They even provided towles free of charge.
The only downside was the condition and cleanliness of the toilets.

In the past years we have frequently been to Thorfynns in Noordhoek because we enjoy the atmosphere, the lovely view onto the beach and the food. Regarding these points, nothing has changed. Unfortunately, however, management do not enforce COVID protocols. Okay, so there is a sign requiring patrons to wear masks and to follow all the usual rules - which patrons did. But not the staff. Both inside and outside, many of the waiters didn’t cover up properly or not at all while other staff members walked through the restaurant without a mask. We asked our waiter to please put the mask on, which he did but only at our table. Hopefully, this kind of carelessness is the exception to the rule!

The best thing about this place is its location. The views from the restaurant are pretty - you can see the beach and the trees but everything else was terrible.

The rooms are of a poor standard and feel so dirty and dingy. There’s no mattress protector, the carpets and “curtains” were stained and absolutely filthy, the chair cushions looked like they’d never been washed, the bedding had stains on it, and everything in the room was dusty or sticky. The bathroom was also small, outdated, and felt dirty and the mini fridge was brown and yellow inside.

Breakfast was also very poor. There were flies all over the food - hot breakfast that was sloppy and didn’t taste fresh. Also extremely slow service and poor customer service in general. No one was friendly and it was like everything was too much effort for them.

I would strongly recommend finding somewhere else to stay.

What a terrible disappointment! We stayed in one of the new rooms with a patio and sea view. No television suited us just fine as we wanted peace and tranquility…. Not a reality in a room that was accosted by the loud and raucous exchanges between the staff, also the strong smell of the extractor fans and oils from the kitchen. Furthermore the door lock didn’t work so we had to push the double doors open, the curtain was shredded along the edge, the couch was grubby, the headboard was for a double bed, and the bed in the room is a king size bed. The patio had cigarette stumps lying in the corners and wasn’t swept for the duration of our stay, the wire for the external light was exposed at the entrance door, water pressure was intermittent. Breakfast was at best totally mediocre, with only filter coffee offered, no decaf option, and we had to pay for decent coffee at an additional cost. There was no assistance with baggage to or from our vehicle. Overall a totally disappointing experience for long time supporters and lovers of the resort. We will definitely not recommend it to friends, nor will we be back. Such a waste of a prime position on our incredible Noordhoek beach.

I facilitated a 3 day workshop.
The resort seems to be suffering from neglect. Facilities are quite run down and poorly maintained- be it the rooms, the conference room or the public areas.
Management presence was invisible- certainly no one made themselves known to our group as a manager and as a result we had to burden staff our requests that things be addressed. The frontline staff work hard but they are simply not supported as one would expect them to be in a resort such as Monkey Valley.
Active management is required if MV is to remain a venue of choice.

This amazing Beach and Nature Resort is situated in a very Beautiful part of Cape Town. Unrivaled views at the food of Chapmans Peak inside a forest setting you will find this lovely thatched establishment with lots of pleasures to experience. A must stay when visiting Cape Town complimented by their Thorfynns Restaurant's cuisine and spectacular views. We will be back with our friends next time!

Although we went for a three day primary school reunion, we made a ten day stay of it. The hotel nestles in a lush forest and has very cute, rustic log chalets. Although the chalets are not five star luxury, they are more than comfortable and I would suggest that you insist on one of the chalets which have magnificent sea and coastal views. The staff are all very friendly and go the extra mile to be helpful. The food is excellent. If you are planning on having a wedding or conference, this is the ideal place and Mireille handles every aspect with utmost efficiency and taste

After a long walk at Noordhoek Beach, we decided to check out Monkey Valley and have lunch. My first concern were the cushions on the chair, they were worn out and dirty. My just ordered Pasta, that was very salty and had to send it back. I had a butternut and beetroot salad. The big bowl of salad had 5 small pieces of Butternut and 4 pieces of beetroot with 1 feta... it tasted off. My daughter had a burger and she said it’s the worse burger she’s ever had. We ate and left immediately. Cape Town is known for having thee best restaurants in the world, Monkey Valley Restaurant was a great disappointment. The Staff was very Kind and present. Maybe that’s why we didn’t complain about the food, plus the view is Amazing. Don’t go there for Food!!!!!

We booked a room with a beach view but was given the chalet which had no view other than a dead patch of grass from our front porch. The only view it had was a far distant view of the ocean from the upstairs rooms. Make sure you phone or email first and ask which chalets have frontal ocean views. Each chalet has a name but one will not know this if you haven't visited here before.

Hi Yes Monkey Valley Resort is dog friendly on the deck as long as the dog is well behaved and kept on a lead. Unfortunately animals can't be in the rooms
