My husband and I was on a 5 week holiday from the UK, and Candlewood Lodge was without a doubt the best place we stayed . From the moment we arrived to the day we left everthing was perfect , our Host Matt was so welcoming and informative, and the breackfast was simply amazing, can honestly say we were very pampered . Would definatly reccomend , and as soon as we can we will be back.

We had the best holiday ever at Candlewood Lodge. We stayed at Matthias' lovely place for 6 nights in February 2022 with our 6 year old son. It was such a paradise for him that we decided two times to extend our stay. After a couple of hours we already felt like visiting friends not staying at a hotel. Matthias is the best host we ever met. He was so friendly and helpful with everything. He washed our clothes, he gave us umbrellas for the beach, everyday he had a new idea for us what to do in Knysna and he was so caring that our son didn't want to go on with our holiday without him. Matthias showed him how to crack macadamia nuts, he fed the fish in the garden pond with him and they baked bread together. Also the garden is a paradise for kids, so much to do, so many places to hide, so many animals to discover. But the place is not only perfect for kids. We relaxed by the pool and Matthias brought us drinks and something to nibble on before we could even say that we were hungry. And everything was homemade and absolutely delicious - from the milkshake to the amaaaaazing breakfast. We expected a lot after reading all the reviews that mention the nice breakfast at Candlewood Lodge. But it was even better. You get a menu to choose from three different egg dishes every day. All of them are created with so much love and creativity that it can't be described with words. Additionally you have the buffet with homemade bread, local cheese and fresh cut fruits. At the end you get something sweet like Matthias' stunning Palatschinken with homemade vanilla sauce. We always sat 2 to 3 hours in the garden feasting and enjoying life while the kids where running around the garden playing. There was absolutely nothing we could complain about: the rooms are beautiful, the service is excellent, all of the ladies working there are so nice and helpful and the location is perfect if you have a car. We can't thank Matthias enough for the highlight stay of our trip. All the best for him and the whole team. Absolutely high recommended!!!

This was our second stay at Candlewood but the first since Matthias has taken over. We were not disappointed as he has upheld the extremely high standard set by the previous owners. From the moment you arrive, with a personal welcome written on the front door to the moment you leave, his attention to detail is second to none. The bedrooms are modern, light and all have amazing views over the lagoon, especially at sunset. The breakfast is just outstanding and is one of the reasons we returned! Fresh ingredients, all locally sourced are served in a delightfully gastronomic way, for example, caramelised pear with blue cheese and walnuts...delicious! Matthias is a charming host and goes out of his way to help with anything you may need. This is a fabulous place to stay for one night or two weeks.....and we would highly recommend you go and try it for yourself, you will NOT be disappointed!!

We booked this guest house based on good reviews and were not disappointed. The owners and staff were really welcoming. The communal areas have a calm, homely feel. The hosts pay attention to detail and offer fabulous in-room refreshments and a basket of fruit on arrival. Careful attention is paid to every little detail to help you enjoy your stay. It's a shame that there isn't a private generator to reduce the inconvenience of load-shedding. A hook or rail in the shower would be useful. This said, these are minor negative points in the scheme of things. We liked the location even though it is not directly in front of the lagoon but a few streets back, as the coast and lagoons were very busy with traffic and day trippers, so we were pleased to get away from all of the crowds, yet be within walking distance of amenities. We slept well as the area is quiet and the beds are very comfortable. Rooms are stylishly furnished. The garden and pool areas are very pleasant and there are beautiful flowering shrubs surrounding the pool deck. Breakfast was amazing, with cold platters of tapas and an excellent choice of cooked breakfast, with the menu changing daily. We found the tips on "what to do today" on the menu with a little bit of local history both interesting and helpful.

Matthias and his crew were very welcoming and responsive. The property itself is nice with a lovely breakfast and airy rooms. We were disappointed that the property required a 30 minute walk into Knysna on a sketchy highway or a walking path that felt deserted and unsafe at night. A good stopping point for many day trips around Knysna but not a good choice for easy access to Knysna itself, particularly because Uber is not accessible

If you are looking for an accomodation in Knysna, just click “book” in Candlewood Lodge without any doubt. *Comfortable and large rooms. They think about every detail. View from our room was perfect. Sunrise & Sunset❤️ Balcony was so cute. Minibar is full. Many wine options. Coffee machine and fruit plate was available. *friendly and warm welcome from Mathias Matt brought us coffee with his super presentation skills for our tiredness. *Awesome breakfast, you cant find better than this in SA. Matt and his staff prepared an excellent breakfast for us. Fresh bakery basket, cheese, avo, eggs of your style, fruits, granola muesli bar, jams ...etc *Every evening they prepare your room for the night, even you can find some small notes about Knysna😀 *Matt prepared a huge breakfast box for us including sandwiches, fruits, protein bars, healthy seeds, healthy juice😍 Location 👍🏼 you can reach the pedestrian road around the lagoon in 5minutes by walk.

I've been traveling through South Africa for 3 months and staying at Candlewood has been THE highlight of my time. Matthias shows genuine care for the quality of accommodations and food he provides. The breakfasts are out of this world. If you stay here, you may not want to leave. The views of Knysna from the property can't get any better, the pool area and gardens are like a mini paradise, and the rooms/bedding/bathrooms are top quality and well taken care of. The attention to detail here is unlike anything I've experienced so far in South Africa. Matthias provides daily ideas for activities and restaurants and goes out of his way to make bookings and suggestions for what he think you may enjoy most. He caters any dietary restrictions and only buys the highest quality food products. During one of my days there I had to leave early for a kayaking trip and he had an incredible lunch packed and at my doorstep before my departure, complete with a the best coconut water I've ever tasted! When I asked for a yoga mat, the staff also delivered a meditation pillow. When I asked for a beach towel, I was also given a beach bag for it. All these details really make you feel taken care of there! I will return to South Africa just to stay here again! And....I have to emphasize again the breakfast!

This was our second stay at the Candlewood Lodge within 12 months and the reason is obvious: Although under new ownership and management, the outstanding quality of the accomodation itself, the incredible breakfast selection and the friendliest staff up and down the Garden Route remained unchanged and thus unsurpassed. The view from most of the suites is fantastic. The furniture, equipment and decoration in the suites is absolte 5-star-level. Although only a few hundred meters from the busy N-2 motorway the lodge ist a very tranquil place. Always worth a stay!

This place was so impressive, I have never stayed in such a luxurious b&b, warm robes, warm throw for sitting in the balcony, amazing view of knysna head.. personal touch of lighting candles every evening in the entire house. Matias was such a good host, gave us many tips and was very helpful. My favorite part was the amazing breakfast, it was presented so well I actually felt like I was dining in a fine dining restaurant. Great place to stay!

We had a gorgeous spacious room at this lovely B and B. Great welcome, pre arrival had been contacted re the dinner reservation we would like at a local restaurant and a super booking made. They also booked for us to go on a trip to the local nature reserve and showed us the lovely footpath by the water to the quay area. The breakfasts deserve a few Michelin stars..we were squeezing our own fresh orange juice and each day there were different home cooked dishes. Amazing!

Herzlichen Dank fuer die Frage. Der Februar gehoert zu den schoensten Monaten an der Garden Route. Ihr solltet auf jeden Fall 2 - 4 Naechte in Knysna einplanen. Es gibt tolle Ausfluege im Umkreis von 45 Minuten. Fuer uns ist Knysna ein "Best of Africa". In der Umgebung gibt es ca. 120 Guesthouses. Natuerlich kann man es auf gut Glueck versuchen und wird bestimmt auch fuendig. Auf der anderen Seite sollte man bedenken, dass die meisten Guesthouses nur wenige Zimmer haben, daher sind die beliebten Unterkuenfte auch schnell gebucht.
