Elalini Backpackers or “The Village” is situated at Goukamma Station, a stone throw away from the pristine Goukamma Nature Reserve for hikes and canoeing with a surfer’s paradise, Buffalo Bay five minutes away. Come explore the natural surrounds on horseback or a guided tour with our trusted tour operators. Accommodation is kept rustic, clean and simple, but cosy, to enhance the traveller’s experience of a rural, peaceful village. We offer a free light breakfast for all our backpacker guests. Elalini is a hidden gem (but can be found!). Just take the turn-off to Buffels Bay on the N2 between Sedgefield and Knysna. Our dinner forms an integral part of Elalini, with beautiful views of the rusty train tracks where the Outeniqua Choo Choo used to operate. Come and enjoy a lively and energetic vibe, with fires burning at night under the beautiful starlit African skies. Elalini offers its visitors an African, farmer’s style and village setting in the heart of nature.

Our 3 golden retrievers were welcomed like old friends, and the gentle-natured doggies living here quickly made friends with ours. Although accommodation is shared we were pleasantly surprised by lovely clean linen and scrumptious food. Excellent location, super-friendly staff. Thank you for a lovely stay

As locals we are always scanning the environment for new places to try. Flippin Knys impressed from day one and has now become a firm favorite. - this is our 4th viait in a month. The pancakes are delicious, fluffy and light and the old station building set in the lush of the Garden Route completes the perfect picture.

We stayed here for 3 nights during the December holiday as a group of 13 friends. We occupied the whole house, which consisted out of 3 rooms, a kitchen type area and a bathroom. It was nice to have the whole house to ourselves!

We paid R200 pp per night and had high expectations due to good reviews and the somewhat pricy cost (however, we do understand that it was peak season).

We arrived at 13h00 and knew we could only check in at 14h00, so we had a drink and something to eat at the restaurant, which was lovely!

We then moved over to our room at around 14h30 and when we went in, the cleaner was sitting there having lunch, having cleaned only one room. We had to wait for some time to move in. When we did, we found other people's food in the fridge and a bag in the bathroom. We had to call someone to remove it.

For the rest we had a nice stay. The beds and linen were first class, the gardens were beautiful, and everyone is very chilled, as a backpackers should be. There is a nice chill and braai area at the top, but the communal kitchen is in a really bad condition. We did not use it at all.

Also the bathroom in the house was not in a very good condition, especially the shower/bath. We also did not have warm water.

Everyone was very friendly and helpful, so I will still recommend staying there. Just a few small things that can be changed to make it even better.

What a happy hearty hidden gem of a place. Popped in by accident. What hospitality, peace, and by goodness.... Fire roasted burger with fresh salad from heaven! Absolutely worth a road trip! Next time I may just book in, backpack and all, to hopefully get more of the same :))

What an amazing experience. Good service and great food / coffee. Awesome views and very unique. Pet friendly and can party all night long. Go on a short small train ride. And kids can play all over. Not far from Sedgefield and easy to get to.

Upon arriving we were immediately greeted by our friendly host, and noticed the peaceful atmosphere with pretty garden and beautiful views, a pleasant wind making the shady spot inviting. After a lovely chat we sat down to a delicious meal which was excellently presented at every turn.

The waiters were friendly and professional and the food was served extremely quickly!! Especially considering how peaceful and chilled the atmosphere felt.

We ate beef mince pancakes, lamb pancakes (which should be labeled lamb and vegetable) and a beef burger. The pancakes were fluffy and the burger was juicy and homemade. For dessert we had cheesecake, chocolate pancake and choc mint pancake and were very happy with our choices. The cheesecake was excellent but the sweet pancakes were also amazing.

In summary: the food was delicious, the staff were outstanding, the atmosphere and view was excellent and we would certainly come back again.

Clean, comfortable, absolute awesome vibe! Very happy stay, lovely conversation with passionate owner.
A must stay recommendation for family or friends. Spacious living with a homely feel. A bar with a younger feel, yet quite enough for a goods night sleep. The cleanest backpackers I have ever stayed in!

I was devastated to only spend one night at Elalini. My room was lovely, clean and cozy. The staff were so friendly, I felt like I was staying with friends rather than at a Backpacker. The food was divine (you MUST try the cheesecake... and any of the pancakes). And if you love dogs, the four dogs that live there are so sweet. Thanks Doug, Lee, Alex, Jacob, and the whole Elalini family!
