The St. James of Knysna is a five-star country house on the banks of the idyllic Knysna Lagoon. Only 2.5 km from the centre of town – and 2.8 km from the popular The Waterfront Knysna Quays (with its restaurants, shops, etc.) – The St. James is also just a few minutes’ drive from Knysna’s championship golf courses: Simola, Pezula, and the Knysna Golf Club. And if you love the water – for canoeing, kiteboarding, or just paddling about – well, the Lagoon’s right there at the end of our lush and expansive gardens. As guests of the St. James, you’ll be treated to a complimentary, 90-minute cruise on our pontoon barge, ‘The Boat,’ which departs from our private jetty to explore the upper reaches of the Lagoon.

Loved everything about this stay. Greeted by Sandy, who couldn’t have been more accommodating and lovely. The setting is stunning, the suite was lovely, complimentary 90 minute boat ride with bubbles and Captain Alex, was excellent, breakfast was great. Wish we’d have booked longer.

This was maybe the best location, service, friendliness we have ever stayed. Every morning opening the doors of our rooms and overlooking the lake was just fantastic! Especially the service of the staff. So kind!

amazing location, staff super attentative, rooms very clean and well appointed. Such a shame you get there to find out their restaurant is closed! Just to repeat as TA needs 200 words to say what can be said in 10. Forget about getting a meal in this amazing hotel and drive into town and find something yourself

Stayed here for 2 nights on our trip on the garden route cannot fault this hotel, Very welcoming and friendly staff from the minute we arrived. Rooms very spacious and everything you could want. Had a trip on the lagoon included in our stay, Alex was excellent as he took us on our trip around the lagoon. All the staff were friendly helpful and couldn’t do enough for you. Breakfast great choice of food and added extra’s of serving us a coffee whilst sitting by the lake waiting for our friends to arrive, We had a lovely lake view. We loved our stay here ? The staff arranged a taxi into the harbour both nights. Highly recommend this hotel.

a cycle tour of the 7 passes between George and Knysna was made extra special by our three night stay at this wonderful hotel. Sandy and her whole team are brilliant and every attention to detail is given. The hotel arranged our taxi's to and from restaurants and to Knysna town. The prize giving dinner on the last night, yoga on the lawns and a wine tasting by a Plett vitner and our charity sandwich making event. We were 30 guests and Sandy's unflappable team handled us with care. The hotel itself is just exquisite, beautiful rooms and lounge area. This is the ONLY hotel i will stay at in future trips to Knysna. 110%.

Lived this hotel, refurbished in 2020 to a high standard. Sandy met us at the entrance and welcomed us with glass of champagne. Our rooms 16&17 were exceptional , very large and comfortable. Bathroom massive and plenty of wardrobe space. Bed big and best sleep I've had for a while. There was a balcony that faced the lagoon. Breakfast was exceptional and too a very high standard. We took the pontoon on a trip and loved it. There are 2 swimming pools and large gardens. A gift shop with high end gifts is a must to visit. The whole experience was great and would definitely go back, for a longer time next time.

Amazing location directly on the lagoon. Room was perfect with large bathroom, king size bed, large room with sofa and two windows. Wi-fi excellent, TV with NETFLIX selection. Breakfast was really good and various. Excellent staff (room service, bar, pool). Nice garden and pool. Cleaning at the top level too. I can't remember any negative point!

A great hotel, perfectly situated directly on the lake. Exceptional friendly and helpful staff and owner. Since it was winter and cold, we had an electric blanket in our bed, which kept us perfectly warm. Next time in Knysna, we will definitively stay again at the St.James, and may have the chance to make the complimentary boat trip and get some sun at the pool.

A beautiful hotel, location and surroundings on one of Knysna's lagoons. Norman was a superb host to us, the GM was away. Nothing was too much for him or for his staff. Housekeeping were very good, facilities all super clean. We had a bundle of laundry down and it was delivered, folded as requested. We requested to do a boat ride on the lagoon, Alex was a great host and very informative of the area. Such a great break face as well, loved their jungle oats, so delicious. Husband was having problems ordering a pizza, no problem for Norman, he took the order and drove into Knysna to collect it. Talk about going beyond ..... Cannot recommend this hotel enough.
