My husband and I stayed at The Loft Hotel for 1 night during our Garden Route Trip. Our suite was beautiful with stunning views overlooking Knysna lagoon. It was modern in decor with plenty of space and all the facilities for a very comfortable stay. The reception and bar staff were lovely and very helpful. We got vouchers for breakfast which we used at Il de Pain, located in the same building and a fabulous way to start the day. There is gallery area also part of the same building with jewellery and art shops, which you can stroll through on your way to and from the hotel, all adding to the attractiveness of the experience. There is a sun deck with a small plunge pool and also kayaks for use on the lagoon, which we did. We hired electric bikes around the corner from the hotel and followed a designated path along the lagoon to The Craggs, where the lagoon meets the sea. Beautiful. The hotel organised a taxi for us to and from the local restaurant The Olive Tree, where we had a superb dinner. The Loft Hotel is part of a new development on Thesen Island in Knysna with holiday accommodation, high end shops, art galleries and jewellers. It is a very attractive area and a lovely place to stay. I would not hesitate in recommending it.

We booked a double room overlooking the lagoon. Three walls of the room have large french windows affording fabulous views over the estuary.

There are rooms at the side of the hotel that overlook a car park. I think if you had one of these rooms you would be very dissatisfied with the hotel.

In fact the place is more of a B&B as it has no restaurant, bar etc. And our room decoration and furnishings were more akin to a motel.

It is built in a small arty shopping mall which actually is nice. And it’s within about 300 meters of 3 or 4 average restaurants. The Burger Experience has very good steaks.

You are given a R300 rand voucher for breakfast for two. You can use this voucher in 3 cafes. The Ile de Pain and cafe at the Turbine Hotel are excellent.

We enjoyed our 2 night night but felt the place was slightly overpriced.

Hi travelperson2, Thanks for taking a moment to review The Lofts. Our lagoon suites are large rooms with beautiful views overlooking the Knysna lagoon. These are all uniquely decorated and if you felt that the decor or layout was not to your taste we suggest trying one of the other rooms which could have been more suited to your style. Not sure why you are saying there is no restaurant or bar as we have a large Atrium lounge area that has a restaurant that serves breakfast and light lunches and it functions as a bar with great coffees, local wines, craft beers and other drinks for our guests - it is open from 8:00 until 20:30 every day. We hope to welcome you back again, The Lofts Boutique Hotel Team

A great base for your Knysna stay set right on the waters edge. Easy access to shops and restaurants this hotel offers you comfortable accommodation, friendly staff and a bohemian central courtyard that oozes ambience. The hotel restaurant meals are very well priced and food is tasty.

We booked a luxury loft room (6A). Never again! Our room overlooked the car park and at night when we sat on our balcony we could hear the rats behind the trash cans on the parking lot. We paid EUR 450 for 2 nights and this was definitely not what we expected!!! Furniture was outdated, had to shower in the bath and was a small bathroom compared to all other (cheaper hotels) we stayed in. No restaurant or bar. Was really dead inside. When we sat outside on the terrace to have a drink when we arrived we had to go inside to order. There was no staff. Tables were outdated outside and the cushions on the lounge chairs were really dirty with stains.

We were given vouchers for the breakfast and in the end it was good. However, when we got there the first morning nobody explained anything to us. All tables were reserved so we thought we could not sit there and sat on the sofas. When we ordered breakfast someone finally told us that the tables were reserved for the hotel guests. Should be explained earlier. Also had breakfast at Ile Pain and that was really good.

We stayed for two nights, but would not come back. Way too expensive for what you get!!

Dear Damia1984, Thanks for taking a moment to review us on booking.com as well as TripAdvisor. We appreciate the feedback and yes agree that some of the things mentioned are unacceptable and we apologise for this. We have spoken to the commercial owners association regarding the rat issues. The municipality has been busy upgrading the town's infrastructure and due to this a lot of rats have been displaced and moved onto the island and this is causing terrible issues for us. Our Atrium bar is open daily from 8am-8:30pm and as we are a small team we request guests to order directly at the bar. This could easily have been explained to you as well as the breakfast and we apologise that our team did not do this. Kind Regards, The Lofts Boutique Hotel Team

I had the luck to stay in one of the Luxury Suites with spectacular views of the Knysna Lagoon. The rooms were well-appointed with all the comforts one needs. The staff are super professional and accommodating and no request was a problem for them. The breakfast is served in the common atrium of the Boat Shed - very delicious and great choices. The location is perfect to walk to nearby restaurants, shops, and activities...or a short walk off Thesen Island to the vibrant Knysna Waterfront area. I can highly recommend this boutique hotel.

The Lofts Boutique Hotel is in an excellent location situated on the waters edge of the lagoon with beautiful views. The atrium is a wonderful feature, sophisticated yet relaxed, with an excellent coffee and light meal service and with direct access to a variety of lovely shops. The rooms are spotless, comfortable and quiet - the perfect retreat after a busy day.

We arrived at The Loft to be greeted by an enthusiastic, warm friendly gentleman call Alan. He couldn’t do enough for us, explaining everything everything we possibly needed to know.

The room, we had booked that many different hotels on this trip we didn’t know what to expect and we were not disappointed. A two storey apartment its was massive. Two beds, two baths, living room, kitchenette. Our best room by far on the trip so far.

Two down sides - a shower is very important to me. The upstairs shower was miles better than the downstairs but we only managed to get hot water out of it once in our three nights. The downstairs one you could only stand in it for a good few minutes before it flooded on to the bedroom floor so we cut our shower time to a minimum to stop this happening. Reported the downstairs one to reception on day one. Wasn’t resolved so lived with it.
Number 2 even though this apartment is amazing there is no really area to dry your hair and get ready so used the dining room table.

Breakfast was included each person gets 300R to spend at The Nest or Ile de pain. ile de pain was my preferred place. It is closed Sunday and Mondays.
See me reviews for there both great places.

Even though you are on an island there are still plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Tapas and Oysters was good fun.

Overall this is truly an amazing place, love the vibe the friendliness of the staff and the whole concept.
It’s been one of our highlight so far. 100% if we visit Knysna again we’ll be staying here beautiful.

Rest assured that we'll look into this matter to ensure it doesn't happen in the future. It's wonderful to know that you enjoyed breakfast at Ile de Pain and Tapas and Oysters. Beautiful place with super friendly staff. The hotel is really unusual, with the main area open in a loft style with lovely boutique shops right off it and busy restaurants and cafes in it. Great atmosphere. We were a group with one room and apartment (with two bedrooms) and they amazing overlooking the pool, we were genuinely shocked at how large and luxurious they were for the price, they were stunning. The restaurant which is tapas style was very tasty, and Candice our server could not have been more helpful, she really was wonderful and went the extra mile. Shoutout as well to the french bakery for breakfast, the pastries are to die for. I think of it often!!
The tiny thing to improve was that the soundproofing between the two bedrooms in the apartment, it's not super private.

Now this is a boutique hotel!! This hotel occupies an old boat building structure. The building was remodeled with hotel rooms and loft spaces that are modern and have interesting views. All the rooms are different because many of the old beams from the original building were used and had to be worked around. The hotel is on the island (accessed by causeway) and is where all the boat building took place in earlier times. The location is great since you are in the center of town but out in the harbor which provides wonderful views. You can pay extra for the large lofts that have the best views and provide wonderful living spaces. A wrap around balcony with windows and sliding doors on both sides, modern interiors with great charm. In addition to the hotel rooms the remodel also included the creation of a restaurant and interior shops accessible to the public. So this hotel also offers a private sitting room for guests as well as two eating/sitting areas outside overlooking the harbor. The famous European bakery Il’ de Pain also shares this building so breakfast if you do not opt for it to be included, is easy found here. I looked for a reason to stay extra nights in this town just so I could stay extra nights at the Lofts, why? Because of the 100’s of hotel rooms I have stayed in, this one was different and offered a level of charm I rarely see.

The use of original beams and the modern design of our rooms and loft spaces create an interesting and charming atmosphere. We're also pleased to hear that you enjoyed the amenities we offer, including the private sitting room for guests and the outdoor eating/sitting areas overlooking the harbor.
