We stayed here for 4 nights in the sunbird room and had a very pleasant stay indeed.

The bed is large and comfortable with good pillows, there is a settee and DSTV and a large bathroom with tub, sink and separate shower. There is also a south facing balcony with views over the lagoon.

The public spaces are lovely; outside shady area and pool, and inside a great lounge with a large window overlooking the lagoon that is well stocked with alcohol to get your evening going!

Liesl is there to help with planning, taxis and restaurant reservations, and all the staff were good. My other half recommends a pedicure from Zandy! Breakfast is excellent.

I would have rated this five stars but just a few niggles hold me back. The room decor was a bit tired; the cold tap handle on the bath came off; the traffic noise on the balcony from the N2 below; the slightly public view into the room. Nothing that spoiled our stay in any significant way, but together mean only four stars.

Still, I recommend this a great place to Knysna.

10 reasons why you should visit: Kanonkop Guesthouse in Knysna
1. The rooms are huge and well appointed with the most luxurious amenities.
2. The elevated location presents the most spectacular views of the Knysna estuary and heads.
3. Perfectly located in a quiet residential area, yet close to town and restaurants.
4. The staff are well trained, friendly and attentive.
5. The property is very much a boutique lodge with high attention to detail.
6. Breakfast and high tea it’s absolutely delicious, well thought out and beautifully presented.
7. The property is surrounded by lush green vegetation and is private from neighbouring properties.
8. The large swimming pool is just lovely and inviting.
9. The rooms have sea facing balconies and decks which allow for relaxing morning coffees and evening sunset drinks.

We stayed here halfway through our Garden Route holiday. When we return as we assuredly will we will stay longer than the couple of days we stayed this time. Mike, the owner, was the absolutely perfect host and all the staff treated us royally including some great restaurant recommendations in the area and transport arranged. Special shout out for Rico. The Sunbird Suite afforded us a memorable view of the Lagoon and was extremely comfortable.Breakfast is taken on the sunlit terrace and was unfailingly excellent. All in all a wonderful place to visit.

As a family group of seven, four of us on a very first visit to south africa, knysna seemed the ideal place to stay on the garden route. Mark and Adele, the owners of Kanonkop, along with Leisl, the manager made everyone so very welcome. The rooms are all very beautiful with amazing views of the knysna lagoon. Breakfasts were the most wonderful social time and nothing was too.much trouble for the kitchen staff. The pancakes are amazing, as is the french toast. It was very pleasing that everything is presented in the most covid secure way with no self service and cereal, yogurts, preserves etc all in individual glass jars.

If you are planning a visit to knysna then kanonkop is the must-stay guest house where nothing is too much trouble, whether you're travelling as a large family group looking to relax together, or a couple looking for a romantic getaway venue. - PERFECT

We will definitely be back.
The Saywell family.

Stayed at the Kanonkop in the Diamond Suite for 5 nights. What a fantastic find this hotel was. The room itself has wonderful views, lots of room and is very comfortable. The staff are there to help with every little details, from restaurants, drinks, taxis, day out suggestions etc. The hotel is up the hill from Knysna so a short drive, but its peaceful and quiet.... like an oasis! Very good location for all the activities we wanted to do, and the hotel were very helpful in sorting out a guide to take us on a couple of hikes and canoe trips. Breakfast was also excellent. Loved the hotel.... best one of our stay in South Africa and we'd definitely return here!

It is really hard to find the superlatives to adequately describe this amazing hotel. It is a very small and peaceful hotel with stunning facilities. We had a very large room with an incredible view from a huge balcony. The room was beautifully and comfortably furnished as well as being spotlessly clean. The lounge/bar area was superb with large windows showing off the amazing views of Knysna Lagoon. Afternoon tea is made on the premises and served daily and the lovely lady in the kitchen continually offered to make us sandwiches or whatever. The drinks are complimentary and amazingly self service. The mini bar in our room was well stocked and also complimentary. The pool area was lovely and relaxing as was the outdoor sitting area. Yet despite all this all this it was the staff that was the outstanding feature of the hotel. Without fail friendly and helpful they really gave very impression that you were very important to them. They were constantly attentive, restaurants were recommended and booked and taxis organised. We were only there for two nights but would have happily stayed longer. We will be back.

We stayed at Kanonkop for 3 nights Whilst we played golf in the surrounding area.
The room is large and spacious with an en suite bathroom that has magnificent views over the Knysna Lagoon.
Wonderful changing scenes with the low and night tides.
The breakfast is good and as the weather was kind it was served alfresco.
The gardens are beautiful and the general assistant, Gibson, does an amazing job in and around the beautiful home.
Use the local taxi service to take you to the various restaurants available in town.
Sue and Chris Conyers will always be remembered in that home.

Kanonkop is a beautiful place to stay in knysna. The views are breathtaking.
The rooms are plush and extremely comfortable.
However what sets this apart from the average guest house are the staff. There is a small team of friendly helpful and cheerful staff led by Mark the owner and his wife who are very ‘hands On’. From the moment we arrived they encouraged us to treat kanonkop like Home encouraging us to help ourselves to food and drinks and generally fully relax..
The breakfast was the best we had on our tour, sumptuous fruit , smoothies, breads and yoghurt. The cooked options were first class too.
We enjoyed chatting to Mark most mornings and getting tips on restaurants and activities to do in the in the area. The olive tree restaurant is a must if you are in the area.
Would recommend 100 % and hope to return one day.

It is hard to describe just how badly we needed a break after Lockdown. We got the opportunity to go to Kanonkop Guest House and I have honestly never appreciated a holiday more!
We stayed in Selwyn - which is the size of a small apartment! It was incredibly comfortable with so many small luxuries and special touches. The room overlooks the lagoon with a balcony and luxurious bed and bathroom. It would honestly have been fine for me to spend the whole holiday at the guest house :-D The pool was crystal clear, the staff were incredible, especially Gibson & Zandi who did our massages on site. Gibson always popped up with cushions / umbrellas whenever you needed him.
Perfect spot for a luxurious break / wedding / honeymoon / adventure holiday / break away weekend!
We would highly recommend Kanonkop Guest House for your next break and we cannot wait until we have the opportunity to visit again :-)
Thank you Mark & Adele Conyers for hosting us so beautifully and making such a memorable holiday for our family 🌞

This is a bucket-list place! We stayed for 8 nights at the beautiful Kanonkop Guesthouse, hosted by the lovely owners Mark and Adele and the great team, especially Gibson, who is such an incredible human. Kids went into the junior suite and the grown ups into the Selwyn suite, which is seriously spectacular in every way! Comfort, luxurious, views, food, great wines, peaceful, energising... etc...!!

We also indulged in a host of activities hosted and arranged by Kanonkop, such as water skiing and tubing, golf, cycling, snazzy restaurants, beach walks and even some fishing! I tried to extend our stay but the airline was way too costly for the change. We all cant wait to go back and already planning and booking our next trip!

I have a stunning 5 bedroom Villa with incredible views that would be perfect, however it is only available from the 20th onwards. The rate would be R12 000 per night breakfast, wine, beer, soft drinks and your personal housekeeper included. Warmest regards Mark Conyers
