Pezula Nature Retreat offers a retreat experience that garners mixed feedback from guests. While the spacious rooms with fireplaces and the retreat's location earn praise, certain aspects such as service and amenity quality receive more critical reviews, with cleanliness and upkeep in both rooms and communal areas like hot tubs being noted as inconsistent. Some travelers find the value for money satisfactory, while others consider the rates steep, particularly during peak times. The atmosphere is generally appreciated, although suggestions for updates in decor have been made.

We enjoyed a relaxing 2 night stay at the Pezula Nature retreat in September.
Dinner in the restaurant was very nice as was the service, however breakfast was a bit of a free for all and the service wasn’t so great!
The room we had was top class, well furnished with a massive bed. There was a real fire which we lit both nights as it was quite cold. On the second night the guests in the room upstairs complained saying the smoke fumes were blowing in through their open fire, which reception said was down to it being so windy.
Not really sure what the answer is to that problem, however we were asked to let the fire go out which we complied with. Not ideal really, However this did not spoil our stay.
The golf course looked in great condition, unfortunately I wasn’t there long enough to enjoy it!

We were there for golf in Simola and Pezula. The hotel is wonderfully located above the Knysna lagoon and about 10 minutes by car outside Knysna. The rooms are (predominantly) housed in detached small houses around the main building and are very spacious and comfortably equipped. Service is friendly and unobtrusive. The breakfast is very good, the spa area very well maintained and cozy. Overall a hotel where you can enjoy it very well.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon, and we're so glad we stumbled across this gem. An absolutely delightful place to stay mid way through our trip on the garden route! We stayed in a panoramic suite which was huge, with a balcony overlooking beautiful views. We were told to beware of baboons although we didn't see any! Our suite was a 5 minute walk from the hotel main building although we took a golf caddy there with our bags (great fun!)
We decided to eat in the hotel restaurant - delicious food and impeccable service from the staff who were so attentive to us.
Breakfast was delicious and we couldn't get enough of the selection of cuisines, so much that we had far too much.
We used the hotel gym and pool, and enjoyed wine in the evenings watching the sun set over knysna bay as an antelope sauntered out of the bushes right in front of us!
I can't recommend this place enough, you will not be disappointed. We will definitely be returning one day!

Stayed in 2 rooms for 6 nights - Eco room and a hot tub room 4-10th January. Around R8000/night for both via booking.com. Overall a beautiful setting, but the place needs more attention to detail as they are a 5 star hotel - hot water issues on the first night required intervention (probaboly a geyser exchange) which was obviously long standing and should have been addressed without us having to point that out. Long standing corrostion of sliding door latch allowed a baboon to ransack room 28 - the lock when then changed - again, this was likely not the first incursion by this baboon! Breakfast was medicore, unimaginative and repetitive. Poached eggs when ordered soft usually arrived as one soft and one "hard boiled" - again - not a major issue, but this is 5 star hotel and one expects more. Labels at breakfast buffet showed sunflower seeds (labelled as pine nuts) and mixed nuts as almonds - again - 5 star expectations. The "activity board" at the entrance is completed daily with the same uninspired drivel which is a spa treatment and lunch at Zachary's and Noah's bar - Seriously - this is simple to address! Lastly - a fee is now charged to transport to Noetzie at R115pp return - when we visited many years ago (Conrad Pezula) this was included. All this said, the staff were friendly and helpful and the setting is beautiful.

Good Day Paul Thank you for taking the time to give us a detailed review of your recent stay. Never easy to learn that we have missed the mark and that we did not offer the perfect stay to our valued guests. You are correct by saying that the Devil is in the Detail, and when aspiring to 5 Stars we MUST get our consistency right. I am sorry for any inconveniences caused, but please note that we will use these points and learn from them. Wishing you only the best. Kind regards Reinhardt Saayman Hotel Manager

We booked and paid in advance for 2 rooms for one night at the beginning of August, then we decided to do an additional night. At check out we wanted to pay the difference of the extra night and dinner on the second evening, the receptionist charged us the wrong amount saying that it would be credited back to our credit card, she also charged us an additional cost by making us pay for the massages done at the SPA which we had already paid for directly in the SPA as well as the small dinner on the first evening in the room (paid directly to the person who delivered it to us). We asked for explanations but they were not given to us... Once back in Italy we wrote an email asking for explanations and a refund of the additional amount charged (around 170 euros) but obviously we have not yet received any response nor the credit of the amount due .
Pay attention to the accounts!!! terrible experience for a hotel that considers itself 5 star.

Staff trying very hard but there just feels this lack of finesse and responsibility.

This place surrounding the Hotel is so beautiful and driving up there is all of this excitement building up only to be let down when entering the hotel. The place still looks exactly the same and definitely needs TLC and some new stuff. The rooms are outdated with nothing new and you can see it needs an overhaul from the decking to the entrance of the room straight to the cushion outside on the porch. The edition of a Hot tub outside is very very nice but there is no privacy the room next doors people in their hot tub is sitting like 5 meter a way from you and the people in the room above next door looks down on you through their window. You have this amazing view of the lagoon from the hot tub but its blocked by a lot of overgrown bush so you see nothing. In the package is a romantic turndown which i thought was for evenings but we received it the afternoon already which means i had to ask could they please clean the hot tub because its filthy and get it ready a certain time for us which was actually also suppose to be included in the package. Again no one takes responsibility.

Booked a date and time at the spa only to find out the day of arrival that the spa did not book us nobody knows now what to do. You book a date and time because you plan things if it does not happen on that date and time it disrupts your plans. The way it was handled at spa reception was not good enough for me. Again no one takes responsibility

Parking is also something that's not good, you have to park in front at the entrance of hotel now as the basement parking can not be used anymore. We don't all want to park our cars outside in the rain and sun the whole day.

Zachery restaurant is very small and a lot of people did not get seated as the reception said its not necessary to book in advance. It is Necessary to book in advance otherwise staff will run around making tables up for you. The menus can be updated for sure its outdated and also the furniture. The fireplace is nice but it smokes back into the hotel which makes it quite unpleasant at times as you only smell excessive smoke. The food at the restaurant was fabulous and a big up for the chef he or she is doing a good job and its definitely worth it to eat in at the hotel rather then to go to town for dinner.

This is such an amazing place and we have been here plenty times but it is gradually going down and would be sad if it continues in such a way.

This place can be so much more.

Unfortunately I would say this is no longer a 5 start hotel. The location is great with amazing views but that was about it. The suites are large but very dated, need to be totally re done and brought up to date. Our room smelt musty, wasn’t very clean and the curtain was hanging off the rail and we reported this but nothing was done to fix it. The internet is very intermittent and slow.
Staff were quite abrupt and some the others bordering on rude and very unhelpful except for the lady one.
The gym has lovely views but again is very dated, had no small towels or water in the water stand. The steam room was out of service.
The outside pool was lovely with great views.
The breakfast was good with good choice and the staff in the restaurant were good.
If a lot of money is put into redoing this hotel to clean it up and modernise it and the staff given some customer service training it could be great but as as it is at the moment I would not recommend it or stay there again.

They have allocated us a room that we didnt book, issues was fixed upon our complaint. However there was a strong smell of mould in the room, we have been give room deodorizer to compensate for it. Next evening there was leak from upstairs in to our bathroom, flooding the bathroom. We had to use towels to stop it flodding the rest of the room. We called reception but nothing really happened, next they when we spoke to manager he said it is normal when upstairs fill their bath tub. Although the staff was nice and friendly we where really disappointed with the value of money and experience we received.

Good Day Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback regarding your recent stay. Never nice to learn that it wasn't perfect. I can only hope that the team offered a room move as soon as they learnt of the maintenance issue. I realise it was Peak Season and a similar room might not have been available and if that was the case, I am truly sorry. I must however give you the assurance that even though we sometimes have recurring maintenance challenges, we will always do our utmost best to repair the said problem, before sending guests to a room. I am however very sorry for any inconveniences caused. We can only hope that you will offer us an opportunity to make this up to you. Kind regards Reinhardt Saayman Hotel Manager

First of all I would like to thank you for all the preparation put into my partners birthday, Best surprise ever😊😊😊 there are a few indivuals that made our stay memorable, Thank you Lee, Allister, Sunshine, Hastings, Zanele and everyone we forgot to mention.

However we felt that the dining experience felt short, our first dinner experience was just okay, nothing exceptional. Accommodation is gorgeous but felt short on cunilary experience, service staff needs more training, they were friendly but lacked in so many aspect, our stay was not what we expect, I actually had high expectation during our stay. We stayed there for 4 nights and I must say simple things were missed. We had room service for breakfast and waited an hour for the food only to see they brought the wrong order. Lunch service waited 1hr30min for a mere toasted sandwich, while sitting at the pool when the food came there was no cutlery or serviettes one had to ask. When at the pool, service is bad one has to wait so long to be attended until you go look for someone.

The staff could've been more attentive and treat all guests the same because we all paid to be here. Be more informitive on your excursions especially if guests are staying long. I would suggest housekeeping puts in room mist spray in the rooms and some liquid hand soap by Basin to make it easy to wash hands.
The service staff could do with some training service is very slow and they forget too easily. Some don't even know beverage offers on the winelist, Certain guests get pool towels but we requested and told us they in the laundry. Your beach excursion in my personal opinion don't sell it because our experience was terrible, no toilets there, no water offered for when you depart. Please can you create a do not disturb sign for the hydro bath at the spa, we had people coming in and out during our session.
I was so excited to come here but my experience was not a good one. I hope you take the above with a good attitude as this is merely our experience, wishing you all the best for the future.

We were really looking forward to this trip and visiting this establishment. However our 1st night at Zachary's restaurant was a disaster. The service level was poor and tardy. There was a limited selection for vegetarians and of that 1 item was out of stock. The Christmas lunch was a rip off for us as vegetarians in spite of us informing the chef beforehand that we were vegetarian. They just omitted to give us alternates to what everyone else was given. We were charged the set price with no concessions. The waiters are clueless on etiquette and lack proper serving techniques.
