The hotel is conveniently located at the Knysna waterfront. There are numerous restaurants in close proximity but take note they all close early due to the Covid curfew which is in place. I booked two lagoon view rooms which were located on the first floor. The view was nothing to write home about so I don’t think it makes any difference having this type of room. The room had two sizable double beds which was convenient for my family. The rooms are not luxurious but standard motel fare. Service was acceptable and room cleaning was good. Forgot to put the “Do Not Disturb” sign on one night and had the housekeeping banging on my door furiously at 9am to clean the room (my fault but remember to put up your DOD signs if you want to sleep late). The breakfast was typical Protea fare. Covered all the basics but nothing extravagant. The breakfast room can get full very quickly so try get in before 9 am if you want a good table. The WIFI connection at the hotel was atrocious. I tried to get it repaired with the Maintenance Department. All they did was reset the modem and the same problem persisted. All 3 nights we struggled without a stable Wifi connection. If the Protea Knysna manages to correct all these minor issues that I experienced I probably would stay there again on my next visit to Knysna.

My husband and I decided to take my mom on a holiday and our first stop was this fine establishment in Knysna. We were very impressed with the level of service, their great attention to detail and their strict Covid-19 protocols. Staff wore their masks all the time and all surfaces were sanitised as soon as a guest left that specific area. The lifts were always sanitised and the pool area was always clean and in mint condition. We were also very impressed with their breakfast. Everything was wrapped in cling wrap and highest hygiene eulea were adhered to. We always felt safe and at ease. The rooms were kept immaculate and all staff were extremely friendly and helpful! We will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!

I've stayed here a couple of times and enjoy the views of the water and the opportunity to relax by the pool after days out. Rooms are clean and comfortable with all the amenities you need. Staff are friendly and checkin/out very efficient. Breakfast was ok but I would have liked more choice on the fruit.

We chose this hotel because of it's location. Rooms were very modern and had a good sized bathroom. Ours had a small balcony although some of the rooms do not. There were several excellent restaurants just a couple of minutes walk away. We particularly liked Drydock. Knysna is a good base for exploring the Garden Route. We visited Robberg Nature reserve and Tsitsikamma National park as we drove away from Knysna. Breakfast was very good but as one other reviewer wrote we would have preferred to sit outside. This was the 2nd Protea hotel we stayed at on our trip and we would highly recommend this brand.

Stayed for two nights in March. Modern hotel with car parking directly outside for a small extra charge payable at reception. Lovely room overlooking the harbour. Room was spotlessly clean. Two double beds, free WiFi, tea and coffee and fridge in room. Also iron available which was handy Very nice to be able to wander round the restaurants and shops in the evening. Food at breakfast was good, but would have liked to have eaten outside but was told not possible. Staff all friendly and helpful, thank you all for making our stay so pleasant. Keep safe and well.
