The Turbine Boutique Hotel and Spa captivates guests with its unique industrial aesthetic and rustic charm, complemented by stunning views, although noise can sometimes be a concern. Nestled in a prime spot for exploring Thesen Island and engaging in lagoon activities, the hotel's diverse amenities and historical allure receive accolades, even as some guests suggest Wi-Fi enhancements. While service is highlighted for staff friendliness, dining experiences may occasionally lag. Room comfort and cleanliness are well-regarded, despite mixed feelings on value and sporadic Wi-Fi issues in rooms.

An unusual hotel, with its vestiges of former life as a power station proudly displayed, and somehow very fitting. We had the honeymoon suite, the best room in the hotel, which was very large, tastefully furnished, with a delightful little balcony above the pool area. The room was clean, the bed large and very comfortable. The bathroom area had twin washbasins and a double ended bath as well as large double ended shower. Very friendly staff. Decent food.

The location on Thesen Island was adjacent to several other food & drink outlets, and various water activities were available either through the hotel or nearby.

We stayed for 2 nights as part of our Garden Route trip. The location on Thesen Island meant we were always a short walk from restaurants on the island or across the bridge to other shops/restaurants.

Eggs benedict for breakfast was great albeit service a little slow. However, check-in and check-out was very efficient.

The room (we were in room 101) was very comfortable with stunning views across the water. The balcony got sun in the morning, a great spot to relax with a book. It did rain one day we were there and it was also comfortable relaxing on the sofa in the room, in the seating area by the breakfast room and in the hotel's pub (where they show live sport).

The hotel's theme was unique with lots of nods to its industrial background, including pipes, dials and valves in the room.

Turbine Hotel is located inside a beautifully refurbished turbine from when Knysna was mainly a coal plant town! They did an incredible job renovating the place, and have left in much of the original machinery and industrial touches. On top of that, the service was top notch - attentive, thoughtful, and incredibly friendly. The hotel restaurant is delicious and incredibly accommodating (I can’t eat dairy or wheat and they took it in stride and even remembered my restrictions when I came back the next day!). Not to mention Knysna is such a relaxing place - surrounded on all sides by a lagoon, with boats and nearby hills it is incredibly serene. Definitely worth a longer stop over if you’re driving on the garden route to recharge. And not to mention it’s one of the coolest hotels I’ve been to!

We were a group of 20 people filming across the country and our last night was spent in The Turbine Hotel. It was definitely a very special way to end a grueling two weeks. The hotel itself is pure luxury. The staff went out of their way to help us and Candice was a logistical genius and so accommodating. The rooms are large and impeccably decorated, the views breathtaking and the location so central to everything you could need. The hotel restaurant food was devine.

One of the quirkiest stylish hotels we’ve seen . This converted power station has so many original pieces of machinery stylishly incorporated into the design of the hotel public areas and rooms .
Excellent staff .
Room was very comfortable and the small kitchenette is always helpful when travelling .
We had breakfast and it was excellent .
Short walk to two cool restaurants and a fab kids play area .
Thesen island is a short bridge from Knysna and is a very manicured area with expensive properties but it grit safe and quiet - a bit of respite from the cities .
The Spa is wonderful ( ask for Lydia !) . Book ahead so you can just saunter down from your room and relax .
Great stopover on garden route .

Recently got to enjoy 3 nights at the turbine hotel in knysna.

The hotel is centrally situated in thesen islands.

The hotel is surrounded by a few restaurants and bars which is easily accessible on foot.

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel for the following reasons:

* staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to assist (we wanted to go on a sunset cruise and this was all arranged through the reception desk)

* hotel rooms are spacious (we stayed in the moorings suite on the 1st floor)

* breakfast is ordered from a menu but has a wide variety of options

* an old power plant was converted into a hotel, and many of the old pipes and turbines are still kept which makes for an interesting walk around the various public areas in the hotel

*kayaking on the lagoon can be booked from the front desk and the kayaks are located just in front of the hotel

We came to this hotel as stop number 2 on our honeymoon and had a lovely time. Our room was beautiful (probably one of the best we’ve ever had) and the balcony looking out over the water was particularly lovely. Staff were helpful and friendly but on some occasions could perhaps have been a bit more “polished” for a 5 star hotel but this is nitpicking. There were minor maintenance issues in the room e.g. shower door was creaky, but these did not affect our enjoyment of our stay. The pool area is great and the hotel is in a very good location with shops and restaurants steps away. We would recommend.

We stayed a couple of nights at the Turbine and were very pleased. We had chosen it because of the location on Thessen Island and were pleased we had done so.
The hotel is a fascinating curiosity with items from its previous life as a power station just about everywhere.
Our room was fine but a little small, my only real complaint was that the air conditioning didn't appear to respond to the controls. It wasn't a huge problem because the weather was far from hot on the days we stayed.
The pool isn't very large at all and didn't look very inviting and the water was cloudy. We didn't use it because it was cool and wet during our stay (mid January) but I'm not sure I'd have been tempted even if it had been hot and sunny.
