What a wonderful experience this was. The views from the guesthouse are stunning, from sunrise till sunset. The rooms overlook the lagoon and Knysna heads and each part of the day offers a spectacular viewing experience. We woke up to the birds of Knysna singing their hearts out and ended the day watching the sun dip into the surrounding hills and the lights of Knysna twinkle invitingly into the night.
The guesthouse itself is an exceptional experience. The rooms and bathrooms need to be personally experienced to be believed. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay one that feels too short.
The breakfast was delicious and more than adequate and is enjoyed with an amazing view of the lagoon.
The hosts/owners were friendly and available and made you feel like nothing is too much.
If you feel like your stay in Knysna needs to include views, luxury rooms, a delicious breakfast, a safe environment and a feeling of coming home after a day touring the area, then Somervreug is for you.

Our stay was wonderful. The owners, Ludwig and Rietta, and staff (especially Danver and Rhoda) are very hands-on, take a genuine interest in guests and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The team is really superb - friendly, helpful, offered excellent recommendations and were very accommodating.
The guesthouse is beautifully decorated, maximises on the most incredible views and is very clean.
The rooms had everything we needed and much more. The facilities are also lovely - we particularly enjoyed sitting by the poolside and, in cooler weather, sitting in the lounge to enjoy the views of the lagoon and Knysna heads.
The breakfasts were delicious and we appreciated both the warm and cold breakfast!
Thank you to the team!

This is a brand new property and, as you would expect, all the decoration and detailing are really high-end. The rooms are very spacious and the private balcony is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a delicious glass of Franschhoek chardonnay from the copiously-stocked honesty bar, as the sun sinks over the lagoon. The pool area is also delightful and the sunbeds are so unbelievably comfortable that it's hard to get beyond a few pages of your book before you head off to the land of nod.

Wendy is on hand to serve a delicious cooked breakfast and to offer great advice on local restaurants and tour options. She will take care of all the bookings for you and message you to keep you updated on your plans.

This is a lovely base from which to explore the delights of Knysna or to simply spend your days chilling in the garden.

With some tiny changes could be excellent.
Needs a discard bin in the room… Not just the bathroom
Needs a full length mirror.
Incessant switch clicking in the hallways was disturbing and could be heard in the room. Not sure if this was the night Porter not familiar with white switches to click off but it was quite loud.
Other than that… A lovely place to stay.

This a beautiful guest house - fabulous views of the lagoon all the way to the Heads, helpful hosts from a long-established Knysna family who give knowledgeable recommendations. Superb shower and a great place for international guests, with all the necessary electrical plug sockets, TV news channels in multiple languages, nice toiletries (and bidet). Good breakfast selections too, and very pleasant staff. Coronavirus protocols observed, including staff wearing masks.

We stayed at Somervreug on the way back to P.E. on New Years Day, 2023. Wendy is accommodating, competent, and gracious. The house is modern and of high quality design, every room has a mountain view of Knysna and the Heads. During these times of stress Somervreug offers uninterrupted power and water during load shedding. The pool is divine for afternoon drinks and the breakfast is comprehensive in scope and delicious. I highly recommend Somervreug for your Garden route Adventure or for a relaxing getaway.

We stayed at Somervreug on the way to Plettenberg Bay. What a beautiful property! We were overwhelmed by the unspoiled views of the Knysna Heads from the dining room, lounge and room. The room was shiny clean and well equipped with a fridge, kettle and microwave. We slept like babies on the good quality mattress. The attention to detail in the guest house are exceptional. The staff was friendly. The breakfast and coffee was excellent!! Thank you Ludwig and Riette, we will definitely be visiting again!

We stood for 10nights in this new built house.Modern and light rooms compared with some antique things give the house a special feeling.Having a great breakfast with a great view over Knysna the day is yours. Relaxing at the pool, laying on the very soft lounge in the shade or in the sun ,at any time the helpful staff will bring you a drink.
We had enjoyed our time in Somervreug very much and we wil come back.

Somervreug is my new place to stay when I visit Knysna.
My friend and I stayed one night en route home from the Eastern Cape. We had rooms 4 and 5 which were perfect as they are fairly private adjoining rooms.
We were welcomed warmly and shown around by the manager.
The whole house is very contemporary, very clean and very well equipped. There is a lovely pool and entertainment area, a bar and comfy lounge.
The view from our rooms was unbeatable and each room had a patio with chairs and table from which to enjoy the view.
The rooms are large and comfortable and have a fridge and microwave. My bathroom was enormous with a double shower.
Breakfast was delicious.
The only fault I could find was mine as I had only booked one night!

The stay at Somervreug Guesthouse was absolutely blissful. The location was ideal, giving us a spectacular view of knysna waterfront and knysna heads right outside our room. The room was modern and extremely neat and welcoming. Breakfast was wonderful, with an array of choices.

Thank you to our hosts who were friendly and welcoming and for ensuring that our needs were well catered for. Would definitely stay at Somervreug again!
