At the Loerie is a historical house in the heart of Knysna's CBD. It is charming - full of character and dressed with a quirky sense of elegant style. We offer a small shared kitchen and boast a tea and coffee station which is in our common lounge area. Parking is onsite and secured by an electric fence and a motorised gate. Wide verandas offer additional seating and outdoor sofas. We hope you will enjoy your visit!

A lovely spacious room. Although this room is not marketed as wheelchair friendly, it actually worked out to be perfect for a wheelchair and very manageable. The assistant, called Clever, was extremely helpful getting the wheelchair into and out of the car and being around if needed. There is a communal lounge with tea and coffee facilities and a nice wrap around stoep to sit outside for your morning coffee. A very good experience all round.

The place have one of the best beds I've slept on in a guest house yet. Very clean and well furnished. safe parking for the vehicles. The only reason im not giving a full star is my concern of the safety measures at the back. there is no safety door and the door to the stoep/kitchen was left open the entire knight. This gives complete easy acsess to criminals to the entire guest house. The sfety at front is good with electric gates, safety doors etc.

Response from jen fecther, Owner at At The Loerie

Hi Attie Thank you for staying with us At The Loerie, and thank you for bringing my attention to your feelings on the back stoep. We have the electric fence running the entire perimeter of the house including on that side and then a secondary security measure of a grid work of beams. A new system is in place for the security measures on the main door to that area. On your next visit, you'll be able to enjoy that comfy bed with full peace of mind. Hope to see you again on your next visit.

The rooms are based in an old building, so high ceilings, wooden floors, lovely verandah all around. Rooms very tastefully decorated, big comfy beds. Well appointed shared kitchen where you could easily cook a proper meal, which i did not do as there are so many fancy restaurants in Knysna and a shared living room where you can meet people from all over the world!

The host was very accommodating to find us a gas braai as one is not allowed to make fire at this building.. Rooms are beautiful. Common areas well equipped.
The area seemed a bit dodgy, but the house has very good security.

The only thing we would of likes was an aircone in the room the room was really hot but we really liked our stay. You have to share the kitchen but it was clean and the rooms are a good size. We even got a cot in our room for the little one. Thank you for everything.

Our family of four stayed for a night. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were more than adequate and all four of us had a wonderful evening sleep. The way the guest house is structured is very clever with enough private space for guests. We highly recommend this guest house.

At The Loerie is a hidden gem in Knysna, especially if one is budget conscious. Gorgeous interiors, plenty of rooms, quality matresses, linen and towels and safe parking. A group of us overnighted here before we hiked the Outeniqua hiking trail. Our en-suite rooms were comfortable and we appreciated the excellent service and friendliness from all the staff, including Jen, the owner, and her mother Roz. Everything was spotlessly clean and well maintained. A communal kitchen with coffee & tea facilities, lounge, stoep and braai, all aided in our comfort. The recycling initiatives and loadhedding alternatives are impressive! Ideal as a beautiful base to explore Knysna from or as a special stopover on the Garden Route.

Accommodation was comfortable and clean. It is centrally situated with off road parking. Jen was most helpful when I made the booking and the staff at the premises were most helpful and friendly. I would certainly consider staying here in future.
The main negative was the noise from the road construction taking place during the day (Friday), but I was told about this beforehand and is a temporary issue.

We only stayed one night but everything was fine. Central location. Huge room only bathroom and especially the sink was a little small. The building is old so if there are noisy guest it might be a problem, however it wasnt one for us. Friendly welcome.

We were delighted by the pure charm of At The Loerie, 5-star cleanliness and friendliness. Old time generous hospitality, superbly decorated and furnished. Comfy beds and plush linen. A stone's throw from the Knysna waterfront. We WILL be back!
