Travellers' Choice
Peace of Eden, fondly known by many as 'The Peace Lodge' is a quirky beautiful place that is setting trends as the first Vegan Backpackers Lodge and Retreat in South Africa if not Africa! Only 8 km's off the main N2, its set alongside magical indigenous forests and offers eco rustic creative accommodation from woodcutter Cottages (once the stables), a Barn Cabin, a cute fairy tale double story Cottage and four retro canvas tents on stilts in the forest. Perfect for nature lovers and the more eco green aware travelers. They offer gorgeous 5 star vegan dinners and breakfasts, its best to pre book in winter, however meals are available every day in summer. Whilst nature does most of the entertaining, they also offer an onsight nature Guide who can take you on any adventure, an award winning Music Studio with sunset soirees, festivals and host creative and holistic workshops. Be it for a night stop or used as base to explore the incredible Garden Route National Park, this 'Peace Lodge' is perfect for those wanting to be a little off the beaten track and who love something different from the mostly busy noisy backpackers, traditional BnB or impersonal hotels. Here you arrive as a stranger and leave a friend inspired by the owners Jen, Howard and Jessamine who do what inspires them and share it with love.

This is truly home away from home if your home is paradise. Such incredible hosts and hostesses, Jen and Howard have been in the business of hospitality for long enough to know what comfort means. Jen, accompanied by her daughter at times, creates delicious vegan food. They are also fabulous bakers so all our party treats were beautifully presented. I’ll certainly return when in SA again.

How lovely!! This will probably be the highlight of our trip. We had such an amazingly great time. When we got there we set up camp, with a view of the forest. We had a table set for dinner with some flowers and candles. And the dinner was SUPERB! I really enjoyed it. The bathrooms are soooo nice, you really feel like you're out and about in nature. I truly enjoyed waking up to a beautiful sunrise. Our breakfast was just as lovely with fresh mint water and tea. Its more than its money worth for sure! Thank you so much to Jim and Jess for making us feel right at home and keeping those monkeys away while we were eating! It was truly an amazing experience. Will definitely do it again!

We had a weekend stay in the forest tents and loved every moment. The tents are situated in the forest and quite comfortable. You are surrounded by nature, peace and tranquility. We loved the outdoor showers and found the forest loo's interesting. Peace of Eden is definitely worth a visit should you wish to unwind and unplug from life.

I have stayed at peace of eden many times over the years. I have stopped for a night when needing to pass through and I have stayed for days to totally relax. I have enjoyed accommodation for two and then have also stayed with my siblings and small baby. Every time I have to leave I just wish I could stay longer... the surroundings are pristine, the hosts are warm and accommodating and the vegan food is delicious. I will return over and over again.

Stayed here while visiting South Africa. Beautiful, peaceful piece of heaven with fantastic meals. Loved the monkeys watching meals being prepared in the kitchen. Friendly staff, walks through the woods and swimming in the lake. Recommend it wholeheartedly
