The Narnia Guest House provides affordable bed and breakfast accommodation and self-catering accommodation in Knysna. Situated on top of a hill, we surrounded by majestic views of the Knysna Heads (famous entrance to the sea), Knysna lagoon, the Knysna river and the Garden Route's Outeniqua mountains, this stone and timber guest house nestles in an acre of award winning gardens, visited by 180 species of bird and small wildlife such as bush buck, lynx, monkeys and bushpig. You would be hard pressed to find a better location to stay. Just 2 kms from the town of Knysna with its fabulous shops and restaurants, beaches within 10 kms, forest walks closeby, Plettenberg Bay 30 kms away and both the Tsitsikamma National Park and Oudtshoorn easy day trips. The Guest House is eclectic and intriguing with a mix of building materials, most of which were found on site. The salt water pool is a delight in summer and boasts a view of the mountains very difficult to beat. Geyser water is solar heated, the owners collect glass and tin to recycle, the gardens are watered from dams and are fed with worm farmed compost and an organic veggie garden supplies whoever needs what is being picked on the day. This is a place looked after, with love, by staff who have worked here for over 15 years and looked after guests for 12. Bed and Breakfast guests are treated to a fun drum call by Nomic. Mavis and Natalie make sure your room is spotless and your flowers in the bathroom fresh.

Views are great, but you pay for them. Be warned however that the smaller unit of the 2 is attached to the owners house, who is very overbearing and abrupt and tends to encroach ones privacy. Considering the price paid, it was quite annoying.

We’d stayed in the pool house at Narnia about 4 years ago (before they were affected by the Knysna fires), and loved it then. We stayed again now in their newly built pool house and we were absolutely blown away. For a family of 5, this house was perfect. It’s spacious, really comfortable and extremely well equipped. What really blew us away was the stunning decor and attention to detail, just beautifully done. I also loved the fact that all doors and windows were secure with discreet security bars and American shutter doors. I felt really safe at night and knew that our belongings were safe when we went out for the day. And then, the gardens! What a treat for the eye! You would never say that a fire had swept through there 2 years ago, because the gardens are just so beautiful and well established. Being on top of a hill, the views over Knysna heads and Knysna Lagoon are also incredible. I was fortunate enough to also experience some reiki for the first time from the owner’s son, James. It was a really peaceful experience, I felt as though I’d left all of my worries behind. I cannot recommend Narnia enough. We will stay there again and again whenever we’re in Knysna. Thank you so much Stella, you can be so proud of your special place.

Everything was as we expected, and we had very high expectations based on the beautiful pictures and previous guest reviews! They also went out of their way to accommodate my husband, who is in a wheelchair. We will definitely be back and stay longer next time!
