Head over hills is one of the nicest hotels you can stay in Knysna. The View is breathtaking and service is beyond amazing. I spent a portion of my honeymoon there and I highly recommend it for any couples the inifinity pool and the breakfast are out of this world. Must visit!

This was one of our best vacation stays to date! The hotel is overlooking a view most people would hike to see. The rooms are comfortable with expansive balconies to enjoy being a part of nature. What made this hotel stand above the rest was the owners and team, Martin, Teresa, Webster, and Zizi, who all made the stay top notch.

We started in the wine cellar with a private tasting with Martin, that recommended a variety of great selections, one of which we got a bottle for dinner. Dinner was spectacular as we enjoyed great food and a continuation of great wine.

If you are looking for a once in a lifetime view, incredible wine selection, or just a luxury stay, I would highly recommend Head over Hills!

We have visited many 5 star establishments in South Africa and we are certain that Head over Hills ranks in the top 5 of our experiences. The breathtaking views and personalized hospitality make you feel spoilt, while a calm ambience provides for a stress-free visit. We consider this experience to be good value for money in the South African 5 star category and will definitely be back.

Stayed for 1 night with an amazing view, friendly staff and great food. The room only had a double bed, small bathroom with shower you a grown man struggles to turn and water everywhere. The mini bar is stocked but only with mineral water, 2 sodas and 2 beers. This to me was not 5 star.

This is a remarkable location and the cliff view from Knysna Heads is spectacular and worth the stay.
The staff , restaurant and communal areas are outstanding. Our dinner was excellent and could stand up against the best restaurants . Breakfast was also very good with the most delicious pastries !
We could not have been made to feel more at home and catered to .

But . What stopped the 5 * was the room . Be very wary of bed sizes . The room we booked was an ok size with a great deck , but the bed was small and as both of us are light sleepers we knew this would not be good . Our only alternative was a twin bed room that was much smaller in size , smaller balcony and generally claustrophobic and cluttered. The beds were child size single , so that was fun ….🙄.
What made it all manageable was the fact that we were the only guests ( out of main season ) so we could spend most of our time in common areas , but it would have been nice to have enjoyed our original choice of room with inside chairs to lounge on when we wanted and a lovely big deck with loungers .
Also , be aware, the bathroom ( including wc) is all part of the bedroom with only shutters for privacy ( that only act as modesty not closure) . There is no extractor fan , so again , that was fun …🙄🤣. Shower was very dated and water almost impossible to control without wasting a lot of water in the process . The bathroom looks great , but in reality not so much .

A beautiful place in (almost ) every way .

Thank you very much for your reply. All our rooms have an open planned bathroom incoperated in the room, there are some rooms tht are more opened than others and the explanation of each room, with photos can be found on our website but maybe we need to highlight it more to avoid dissappointment. Our beds are European standards when it comes to single (90x200cm), queen (152x203cm) and kind (180x200cm). We are happy that you enjoyed your stay though with our staff and restaurant. Thanks again for your kind words.

A remarkable place, truly at the edge of the world overlooking unspoiled ocean views. The staff compliments this experience by letting you feel at home from the moment you walk through the door. We've been staying several times at the location and we’ll be aiming to come back when ever we can.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this amazing hotel. The fantastic rooms are perched on top of the Knysna Heads which provide breathtaking views. A highlight of our stay was whale watching from our balcony whilst enjoying a glass of Chardonnay! I would highly recommend this hotel when staying in Knysna. All of the team were incredibly accommodating and enabled us to switch off and enjoy our retreat. A massive thanks to Martin and the team for making our stay so special! We will definitely visit again!

The Head Over Hills Hotel in Knysna is simply outstanding, and it's no surprise it receives so much praise! From the moment I arrived, I felt warmly welcomed and truly taken care of.

The owner and staff at Head Over Hills are incredible hosts. They really go the extra mile to make guests feel special. Their attention to detail and genuine care set this hotel apart.

The wine-tasting experience here is fantastic. Led by the knowledgeable owner Martin, it's a great way to discover some top-notch wines and I learned about incredible wines I have never heard of.

And the view? Breathtaking! The scenery is stunning whether you're enjoying a drink on the terrace or waking up in your room.

Plus, the Hästens beds in every room are a dream. They're so comfortable, and paired with luxurious linens, they make for a seriously great night's sleep.

Overall, Head Over Hills Hotel is a fantastic choice for travellers looking for a memorable experience. With great hosting, excellent wine tastings, lovely food, and unbeatable views, it's definitely a place worth returning to, which is exactly what I plan to do.

The pictures were a very fair reflection of the property and the small, boutique nature was very much as described. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, and Martin was a knowledgeable and helpful host. We requested an early check in as we moved on from elsewhere early and the hotel showed a lot of flexibility in accommodating us. The views are genuinely spectacular, although it was a bit rainy when we were there (the only 3 days in 7 weeks!). Food was good, clean, fresh and thankfully smaller portions. Vegetarian options were provided on request and were excellent.

Head over Hills is Divine. Every facet is designed to make one's stay enjoyable. The views of The Heads are incredible. The food is is top notch AND you are able to sojourn down to the incredible wine cellar to decide on your bottles for the meal. Head over Hills ranks as one of the highest establishments on The Garden Route. I highly recommend it.
