Detailed Reviews
This hotel is simply stunning, the views are spectacular some of the best in Knysna. The breakfast was delicious with a small buffet section and a selection of hot dishes to be prepared. We stayed in the Oyster room which was of a good size, with a great balcony and bathroom. The shared areas were also great with a jacuzzi, swimming pool and honest bar - you can basically help yourself to drinks, write it on a list and pay when you leave! The only complaint was that the jets in the jacuzzi weren't working. The only inconvenience as well is that all the restaurants are a 10-15 minute drive into town but they also offer a shuttle into town for 100 ZAR return so you can go out and have some drinks without any concerns. The views more than make up from being slightly further away from amenities. Thanks for a great stay, we loved it and made our honeymoon.

A welcoming guest house with multiple personal touches and incredible attention to detail.
The orient express on a cliff top!
The location of the guest house sits a little outside Knysna on a cliff top overlooking the ocean. The staff were so attentive and welcoming. There was nothing forgotten in our luxurious room, from phone chargers, a radio, tea and coffee making facilities, with a fridge, and television. The bathroom had a corner bath, a shower, and dual sinks, robes and slippers. room spray, mosquito spray and the usual shower cosmetics were also included. Our room opened out to a lovely veranda overlooking the ocean with a small dining set and sun loungers.
A cab to the waterfront was 100 rand and the same driver came to collect us after our meal at 34 degrees south.
Breakfast was superb, lots of choice - a continental buffet and cooked breakfast which was wonderfully presented. The lounge area resembled a Manor House with dark wood furniture and beautiful sofas and rugs and an ‘honesty bar’ for you to declare your tipple of choice. This opened out to a plunge pool and jacuzzi.
Each staff member and the owners said a personal hello each day - showing a truly personal touch to this high quality unique guest house in the hills.

The Alexander is a wonderful guesthouse in Knysna with spectacular views from the Heads.
The staff is very friendly and warm, it felt like family. They serve an excellent breakfast, very divers, fresh and delicious. We stayed in the Oyster room at the lower deck and it was very cosy. It was fresh and clean and well decorated. Everything you need in a hotel room was there. We loved the terras with lounge chairs and partly seaview, you have lots of privacy. The entrance, reception, living room and breakfast area is on the middle deck. There is also a honesty bar with all the liquor you want. When you go outside you will find a lounge area with a pool and jacuzzi with spectacular view of the ocean.
When the weather conditions allow it they will serve the delicious breakfast outside on the deck and you will see the dolphins regularly. Knysna has a nice atmosphere and there are plenty nice things to see in the area. We had a 3 weeks holiday in South Africa, visiting the winelands and garden route. The Alexander was definitely the place where you will have the best value for money. We hope to return some day.

We stayed in The Royal Suite at The Alexander for 5 nights and it beats going overseas from South Africa. The warmth is evident upon arrival as we were met by Dirk and Daniel and given a tour... we wanted down time and excellent views and that is exactly what we got. We had a room with a Jacuzzi and enjoyed it very much, the extremely comfortable room with a very spacious layout was certainly what we needed after a long stint of planning our wedding. We dined at many fabulous restaurants and did a private charter on the Ocean Sailing Charters Catamaran. Thanks to Wayne and Dirk as well as Memory and Daniel for being exceptionally inviting. There is no doubt we will return, highly recommend for families and couples.

We were lucky to be given the Royal suite. It was amazing. The room was gorgeous and the balcony stunning. We didn't want to leave the room. In fact, we got a take away pizza so that we could eat in front of the fire place.
The service was lovely.
I'd say, the attention to detail is what sets this place apart from most other places. Things like the tea cups, light switches etc - might not sound important but the level of care filters though everything the hosts do here.
Couldn't recommend more highly and I'd love to return.

It is impossible in a review to do justice to the Alexander House. It was a 6* experience. Nestled high on the Knysna heads the house is beautifully furnished with large rooms (we had the Captains Suite) with a huge patio with magnificent views. The bathroom was huge and the furnishings very comfortable with many unique touches. Breakfast out on the patio was gourmet quality and the view outstanding. Even the food is served with panache - a small flower on the omelet for example. There is a jacuzzi and small pool available for all guests. It is run by Wayne and Dirk and outstanding staff with Patti an absolute gem. They cannot do enough for you and nothing is too much trouble. There is a large bar with an honor system but in the evenings you can find Wayne behind it being friendly and gregarious. Wayne has spent 17 years building this and it contains many artifacts from his travels. Load shedding was not an issue as wifi and TV and lights worked. To quote Nike "just do it". You will not be sorry.

The most enjoyable stay with service of the highest caliber. From the moment we arrived we were treated as if royalty. Our room had excellent ocean views and the decor was beautiful. The underfloor heating made the room comfortable seeing that the temperature after sunset was still on the cool side. The breakfast was amazing. We were spoilt for choice with the continental bufet and numerous cooked breakfast options. The service and friendliness from the staff at breakfast was outstanding. Even the owners made effort to chat and suggest attractions to visit in area. It felt more like visiting friends. We had an excellent stay. We were initially booked for 2020 but due to covid we had to postpone for one year with no additional expense to us. Our "30th" anniversary was definitely memorable and luxurious.

Where to start, simply breathtaking! We spent the night at The Alexander Boutique Suites and what a special gem this place is. We were warmly welcomed, offered a beverage and relaxed looking out onto the Knysna Heads and Indian Ocean. We stayed in the Royal Suite which was very spacious and stylishly decorated. The room has a large deck with its own private jacuzzi. You cannot explain the view to anyone, it must be experienced. You can see that so much detail and love went into every single furnishing and decoration. The stay was truly a once in lifetime MUST DO and thank you very to Wayne, Dirk and the team at the Alexander for hosting us. I will recommend The Alexander to all my friends, family and anyone willing to listen.

We had the penthouse suite with its own deck and plunge pool overlooking the Indian Ocean. The room was gorgeous, clean and well appointed. The bathroom had a decadent raised bath, double basins and even a double shower! The guest house as a whole was fabulous and Wayne and Dirk were superb hosts. They have a saying etched on the main front door about arriving as guests and leaving as friends and you really do feel that. I would definitely return when visiting Knysna.

We got in late afternoon and had a quick Check-In. They were so friendly to ask a nearby Hotel for a table reservation the same evening and we were lucky!
The Honeymoonsuite is absolutly fantastic with an amazing terace and a own whirlpool.
We couldn't find the socket for the hairdryer but they immediatly gave us one to use.
Breakfast is very nice with a little buffet (but more than enough) and you can choose froma a Menu for hot breakfast aswell.

Hi Cliff. Thank you for your message. The Penthouse is situated on the upper floor of the house with a private pool and great views.
The Captain suite is on the middle level of the house. The suite has its own private lounge with good sea views and covered patio.
I hope this help you
