Enjoy magnificent views of Walker Bay and being close to Grotto Beach at La Gratitude Villa. This historical holiday home has recently been renovated to upgrade the accommodation and facilities to 21st Century standards. It offers superb, understated luxury accommodation in Hermanus that still retains the magic of bygone years. It is a few steps from secluded coves, 12km of pristine beach, the Hermanus cliff paths and a short drive from the village.
We spent a glorious long weekend at La Gratitude in Hermanus. The stunning location must be the best in Hermanus. The villa is perched on the cliffs overlooking Grotto beach with private beach access and not a neighbour in sight. The Herbert Baker designed family home is a great mixture of old world charm and modern luxury. Simon was the perfect host facilitating easy access and promptly dealing with any minor queries. I can highly recommend staying there - we will certainly be returning.

Great views! Good sized pool and the hot tub was fantastic! Great outdoor space for the kids to play. We enjoyed a great family weekend away. check in was smooth and the owner was very generous in allowing a late checkout

La Gratitude provided us with simply one the best most memorable holidays we ever had. We had just got married in the UK and decided to have a honeymoon shared with friends and family and booked La Gratitude for a week. The house accommodated us all comfortably and was filled with all the character and charm we could have wished for (thanks to a wonderful Herbert Baker design). It was spotless, comfortable and it's location within walking distance to Hermanus's best beaches was fantastic. The main highlight was Iris the host/housekeeper/hero! Her calm and welcoming attitude ensured that our holiday was relaxing and filled with joy. Simon was wonderful to deal with and we're already planning our next trip back. 5 stars and more!

We had a great stay with our family of nine at La Gratitude. The sea view from the stoep and pool area are phenomenal. The hot tub is excellent to warm you up after a swim in the not-so-warm Indian Ocean in October. We will be back.

We stayed at La Gratitude for four nights. We had terrible and good weather. The house was warm and cosy during the cold days, with a fireplace and a large kitchen to cook and hang out. On the warm days, we sat on the stoep and watched at least 6 whales in the waves. The beach right in front of the house is a beautiful beach and there is a walking path along the coast.
The house is a historic house in the best location and opposite the beach. The interior is tastefully done. The beds and bed linen are luxurious and comfortable. The kitchen is large and well equipped. There is a jacuzzi and pool and a great outdoor dining area.

Our stay at La Gratitude was perfection! The wonderful memories of 26 years ago just came flooding back and of course, new memories added. The added pool, jacuzzi and outdoor grill made it even more enjoyable. The views are absolutely gorgeous and we saw a whale or two as well. The indoor fireplaces created a warm and cosy atmosphere. The games and books available makes it fun for the whole family. My son's 21st birthday will always be remembered at La Gratitude. Nozi's presence was a bonus indeed, such a lovely lady. Many thanks to Dr Pickstone-Taylor for everything, much appreciated.

Probably the most beautiful house which you can find in Hermanus, set on the last dune in front of a stunning beach. From the house and pool deck uninterrupted views over the ocean. The villa is large and well equipped with luxury elements. Bedding is great and the whole stay was very comfortable, even with cold nights in winter. Great for the three nights we stayed, but could have easily stayed there three months... We look forward booking the villa soon again!

We had the most amazing holiday at La Gratitude! Everything was just perfect, the views, house, pool, fireplaces, jacuzzi and even the weather. It was one of those holidays that is going to be impossible to beat so we will most definitely be returning. Cannot recommend enough - just stunning.

My husband and I first stayed at La Gratitude in March 2012 for a long week- end when we celebrated our daughter, Isabella's christening there with our family. There was 8 of us who stayed. On the day of the christening, it was a bit too windy for our guests sit outside to lunch, so we moved inside. We laid the tables between the kitchen and dining room for 30 people. It was perfect! It was wonderful to have such a big group of people all together in this amazing space. Having the pool and heated jacuzzi was a big plus especially for the older children ;-D. Our bedrooms were airy and well appointed, the interior decoration of the house classical with a view antiques dotted about and the kitchen had everything except a coffee machine. ;-D We had such happy memories of that weekend that we decided to go back.
Our next visit was in November 2013 , this time there was just four of us, but the house was perfect even with a smaller group. It was great for our toddler to have the run of the indoor space, where she was safe to play happily and it was perfect for my mother-in-law, who at 87 found the large open plan feel of the house easy to negotiate and the sweeping views of the ocean from the veranda at the front of the house absolutely charming. An added bonus this time around is the security fence that has been installed around the grounds, we just felt safer. It was of course wonderful to see Iris , the housekeeper, again. She made our stay extra special and it was wonderful to see her familiar happy face again. We cannot wait to return !
