Whale Rock Luxury Lodge is considered to be one of the most beautiful buildings in Hermanus and had a complete internal makeover into a warm contemporary style in 2014. In December 2017, a new more contemporary Villa was added to the property. Situated across the road from the New Harbour and the start of the cliff path, it is but a 3 minute walk down to the edge of the cliff and a 5 minute drive to the centre of town. The Lodge & Villa now have 17 beautifully decorated en suite Rooms & Suites, lovely gardens, a koi pond and 2 pools of which one is probably one of the the largest swimming pools in Hermanus !

We visited 7 hotels on our trip of the Garden Route and this was the one that stood out for us for many reasons. From the moment we arrive the staff were really friendly, inviting and personable. Our room was spacious, with a separate dressing area, a fridge, complimentary tea & biscuits (they even gave me some green tea) and the best hair dryer! We had a view of the garden and could sit outside on our little patio area with a drink from the honesty bar. The lodge is clean, breakfast was awesome, again the staff were always chatty and happy to help. Another plus is the free on-site secure parking. The hotel is a 5 minute taxi ride from town which is not a bad thing - this gives you a reason to walk along the spectacular coastal path in to town which you can reach from the hotel within a 1 minute walk. It took us about 45 minutes but we were stopping to admire the astounding views every 5 minutes. And did we mention it’s a great spot for an afternoon snooze by the pool? We’ll definitely be recommending.

There are many things to fall in love with at Whale Rock Luxury Lodge. Let me name a few so you don't dip out at all! Attention to detail is important to me as is quality. You will find both at this location. On arrival we were met heartily at reception and after freshening up with the luxurious Theravine products, I slipped into my crisp white towelling gown. I then made myself a cup of tea and nibbled on the delicious chocolate rounds at the bottom of the bed. These were not your average cooking chocolate variety but filled with candied orange peel and roasted coffee beans. So good, we stocked up in the village later! The breakfasts are out of this world. Tailor made to suit your every whim. Be warned though, there is a draw back to staying at the villa.... you don't want to leave your room! We braced the sea air eventually and walked the Cliff Path and then couldn't wait to spend the afternoons sipping coffee round the pool or beneath the feathers of the down duvet. If you are in need of a treat, this is the place to check into.

Gorgeous hotel, well appointed in a quiet residential area of Hermanus, we stayed in the Villa part of the property, a reasonably new addition lovely, bright and modern big comfy beds and gorgeous bathrooms, and with solar power so no load shedding issues here. Breakfasts every day were cooked to order and delicious, plus the buffet pancakes were delicious. The pool area is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day. They also have an honesty bar, which is very handy, too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will for sure return. We must really thank Aspen, who's great customer service, made our stay magical and special. Thank you so much for having us and looking after us so well

Nice park, very comfortable rooms, breakfast is OK. However the term "luxury" is a little bit usurped... No welcome drink for example. The pool could be better cleaned: sand or soil was at the bottom of the pool. Something should be done to improve its cleanliness.

Good Morning and thank you for taking the time out to post a review. We are always open to constructive criticism and the fact that you were not offered a welcome drink on your arrival deserves an apology. We always want our guests to feel at home when they are checking in and our staff has been reminded that this is a part of our welcome service. With regards to your comments regarding our pool, we have been trying hard to keep the pool clean under extremely hot conditions. Our pool cleaner had to go in for repairs for two weeks and, despite our best efforts by our team to keep the pool clean, unfortunately with the high volume of guests utilizing the pool, this obviously became difficult to achieve. We have subsequently received our cleaner back and the pool is as sparkling as ever. For our breakfast, we offer 3 x cereals, 3 x yoghurts, a large seasonal fruit salad, rolls, muffins, croissants, a cheese & meat platter as well as a variety of jams. This is beside our hot English breakfast offering of eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomotoe, omelettes, french toast, etc., so we would be pleased to hear from you what else you think we can do to improve our breakfast offerings. We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your holiday and hope you will be back for another visit sometime in the future. Melanie & The Whale Rock Team

Our eighth visit over the past ten years and the Lodge gets better every visit. The rooms and facilities have been upgraded to a very high standard making it a five star accommodation. The staff are always at hand to assist in making the stay like home. They book restaurants and provide a fantastic breakfast.

Had a lovely 2 night stay here. Lovely welcome on arrival and very helpful staff who booked us a walking whale tour, taxis , restaurants etc. the rooms are luxurious and everything you could want we had a door onto the patio area too.
Welcome drink on arrival was a nice touch .
Only thing I would say it is not right in the centre having said that you can easily walk into Hermanus on the cliff path in the day time , in the evening we walked in and got a taxi back .
The cliff path is very safe and fitted with security we enjoyed the walk all the way along to Dutchies a little cafe at the end of the path .
Highly recommend this accommodation the breakfast was excellent too .

Our family of four arrived tired and late from Cape Town and had a really warm welcome from Deren which set the tone for our two-night stay at this lovely hotel. The team are knowledgeable about the local area and the delicious breakfasts in the garden room set us up for our days whale watching and exploring. The caring and professional ethos was very evident when we forgot an item of luggage! No-one coud have done more to help and we're very grateful.

Wonderful hotel and great location for picking up the walking route into Hermanus. We had a suite which was absolutely incredible, the room had a huge comfy bed and also a large sofa, with a dressing room which then went into a large bathroom. Tea and coffee making facilities and a working fridge with complimentary water. Outside was a good size swimming pool with beds but it was too chilly whilst we were there so didn’t actually go in it. Breakfast was good with a choice of hot and cold food.

I was fortunate to find this delightful place last year and my return visit was just as good. The rooms and facilities are excellent, the welcome warm and the overall experience is beyond reproach. They even put up with the vicissitudes of power cuts on a daily basis caused by the continued incompetence of Eskom with quick response with a generator and a smile. I will be back

Kun je hier ook walvissen spotten of is de naam van de lodge daar niet aan verbonden?
Answer from Desi46
Beek, The Netherlands44 contributions31 helpful votes
