#5 of 12 hotels in Hermanus
Travellers' Choice
The Marine, a member of The Liz McGrath Collection, is one of South Africa's most spectacular seaside hotels. Located on Hermanus’ famous cliff path, overlooking the breathtaking Walker Bay, the Small Luxury Hotels of the World property offers visitors the unique opportunity to experience the finest land-based whale watching in the world from June to November each year. Guests are even able to view these majestic creatures from the comfort of their own sea-view bedroom. The Overberg region is also a must for adventure sport seekers, offering a host of activities – including hiking, mountain biking and marine sports. Back at the hotel, guests can indulge in exceptional culinary delights, overseen by Head Chef Tronette Dippenaar: from breakfast at the 1920’s-style Pavilion restaurant, to lunch and dinner at Origins at The Marine, as well as High Tea and sundowners in the Sun Lounge & Bar. The 40 elegantly appointed rooms and suites include 10 Luxury Doubles with Sea View and 10 Premier Suites – both categories are perfectly positioned for watching pods of dolphins and whales as they swim in the bay below. Guests may take a refreshing dip in The Marine’s pool, located in the hotel’s tranquil courtyard, or in the Tidal Pool, which can be accessed from the cliff path.

We booked a Romance week-end for our 45th wedding anniversary and had a most wonderful stay. The friendliness of the staff from the security at the entrance to management really looked after us and made us feel at home immediately. The Spa is the best I had for a long time. The room had the most beautiful view.

We booked for two nights and extended to stay for 3 because we so enjoyed the room and the position of this hotel. The management and staff treated us royally and were very friendly and efficient. The breakfast, included in our rate (winter covid special), was also excellent. We look forward to going back.

The Suite is wow wow wow! Extra touches in the room that stands out & unique. We had dinner in the Origin & the service was excellent and the dishes very tasty with high quality. All the staff treated us like Vip Guests and the concierge even washed our car on the day of departure, I was super impressed with this! The Marine lived up to and exceeded exceptions from the moment we drove in to our departure after spending 3 nights at this hotel. That included all aspects of our stay and each staff member encountered along the way. The service is always attentive and efficient but unobtrusive. The bedroom was well appointed yet a relaxed ambience. This can also be said of other facilities such as the lounge and restaurant where we enjoyed excellent meals. The hotel is located a short walk from shops and restaurants but at the same time has uninterrupted sea views and is a few steps away from the coastal cliff path. It is to be recommended.
